ACCIDENT ON THE RAILWAY —OU Friday after- noon last, a serious accident happened upon the rail- way to a soldier of the 85tli regiment of foot, named Wilson. It appears that Wilson was proceediug to Manchester on furlough, for the purpose of seeing his mother, and that when near to Newton the carriages stopped, close to where a detachment of the 85tli were waiting to be taken up by another train. Wilson observing amongst the detachment several of his acquaintances, left the carriages, rtaii Across the line of road towards them, when an engine, un. attached to any carriages, was coming rapidly up. The poor fellow incautiously considered that be would be enabled to step across before the approach of the engine; however, it unfortunately turned out other- wise, for the end of the engine caught him upon the loins, and threw him a considerable distance off the line of road. He was taken up ill a state of insensi- bility, and conveyed to the station-bouse, where a medical gentleman, who was a passenger in the same train of carriages, bled him. it was then discovered that the force of the engine had broken his collar bone, and injured the spine so materially, that it is doubted whether the uufortunate man will survive. Most of these railway accidents have arisen through negligence or inattention on the part of the injured persons, and it would be much better if the guards were strictly to enforce the rules of the company, viz. to allow no person to get out of the carriages until arrived at their destinatioti.-Liv. DIABOLICAL MURDER.—On the morning of Sunday week, a youug man named Bodell, a person of bad repute, called early at the bouse of his grand- father, a respectable farmer at Plumstead, and assisted in some trilling acts of household work, among other things filling the kettle with water. The whole family at breakfast were nearly poisoned, and Mr. Bodell, who was 80 years of age lips lost his life, from arsenic which was infused in the coffee. Sev- eral long examinations have taken place on the subject; and a strong suspicion prevails that the youug man, who has been apprehended, put poison into the kettle.
