MAN AND WIFE MURDERED, DESPERATE STRUGGLE. Tn thl" wildest part of North Montgomeryshire, close to the village of Garthtw>ibo. a butcher named Evans and his wife were murdered in their home during Friday night. Evans attended an Oddfellows' meeting in a neighbouring town on Friday evening, and afterwards left for his home. He was accompanied by an acquaintance who was on a visit from London. Next morn- ing his dead body was found in the kitchen: he had been terribly slashed and stabbed. Upstairs in the bedroom lay his murdered wife. A sum of £ 200 is believed to have been stolen. It is said that lato on Friday night a passer-by heard wordg being bandied in the house. k sum of JS5 10s. was found in Evans's pocket.. The police were on the scenft later in the day. and found Viiood-stained footmarks leading across a neigh- bouring field. The London milkvendor. Rowland Llowarch, who is alleged to have murdered the old people, was arrested on Monday night after a terrible struggle. Information was given that he was hi< linsr behind a hedge, and Police-constabio Hamer went out alone in search of him. When the officer saw Llowarch the latter at once gave battle. In a savage attack on Hamer. he ripped his tunic from top to bottom, and cut his belt in two. The policeman then drew his staff, and dealt the suspect a hea,\y blow on the hack of the head, cutting it open, and rendering him partly unconscious. When help came. How- arch's legs were bound with a rope. He was then handcuffed, and conveyed in a- wagonette to the nearest police-station. His injuries are described as serious. Rowland Llowarch. a milk-walk proprietor, of 'Askew-road. Bermondsey. and of (Vr:;ov, Garth. heibio. was at Welsh pixjl, on »Vednesday, brought before a magistrate charge with the wilful murder of John and Mary EvanE. of Foel Llwyd, Garthbeibio, during the early morning of March 10th. Mr. Richard George represented the prisoner. Only evidence of arret was taken, and the prisoner was remanded.
