The Local Property Market.
The Local Property Market. It was not a very large company th-it gathered I at the Alexandra Hotel, Rhyl, on Monday after- Loon to participate in the competition for certain property at Rhyl and Prestatyn which had been announced to be offered for sale by Mr Francis Geary. The lots in question began with 22 lota of building land along the Marine'Drire, Rhyl, by direction of the trustees of the will of the late Mr E W Keatingp. None of these changed hands, however. The next lot submitted was by order I of the trustees of the late Mrs Jessop, and con- sisted of a residence etaading in ita own grounds in Linden Walk, Prestatyn, which the deceased lady intended occupying herself. The bidding for this only reached £ 750, consequently the property ■was withdrawn. The same course had to be pursued in regard to the business and dwelling house premises in High Street, Prestatyn, known as Liverpool House, for which no bid was made. At the same hotel on Tuesday afternoon Mr Joseph Williams effjred fjr silo several lots of property situated at Dyserth and Rhuddlan. A large company was present. R :ferring to the Dyserth property the Auctioneer spoke of the growing popularity of the parish amongst visitors and the advantages it offered to people desiring a country residence within easy reach of the sea. The parish was supplied with excellent and abundant spring water, and the variety of its surroundings was sufficient to interest visitors and touri3ts almost every day of the week. He I challenged anyone to find a place better favoured in its surroundings than Dyserth, and as a health resort it bad few rivals. Bidding for the detached bungalow known as Tan-y-Foel, bringing in a rental of 93t par annum, commenced at £5():), and at 963;) the property was withdrawn. For the nine other Dyserth lots the bidding did not in any instance exceed 1-270, consequently no lot changed hand?. The next property submittjd comprised the business premises, dwelling house and two cottages known as Castle View, Rhuddlan and in putting this up Mr Williams had a good ward to say for the ancient borough, which, he remarked, was never so popular with visitors as at the present time, and was therefore capable of con- siderable development at the hands of business people. £ 300 was the amount of the first bid, and when JE490 was reached it was knocked down to Mrs Roberts, grocer, Rhuddlan. At the Royal Victoria Hotel, Prestatyn, on Monday, Mr Frank Jewell submitted for public compatition a number of bungalows, each sttnding in its own grounds along the main road from Pres- tatyn to Meliden, also a plot of building land, about 2,099 squire yards in extent, altng the same thoroughfare. There was a fair attendance, and bidding was spirited, but in each cas3 the reserve figure was not reached. No 1 Peatswosd was withdrawn at f315, and No 2 at the same pnee, and the two together were withdrawn at £ 725. Pendyffryn and the land adjoining were with- drawn at £ 450.

Rhyl Eisteddfod.
Rhyl Eisteddfod. FINAL ARRANGEMENTS. The Executive Committee of the abjve had another meeting in the old bank roo a at the Town liall on Monday night, Mr R Llew.lyo Jones presiding over a good muster. Mr R Bromley challenged the accuracy of tho minutes of the last meeting referring to the granting of facilities for passing in and out of the grounds at any time to certain ti,-k,t holders. He maintained that his motion on the subject applied only t) the holders of 303. season tickets, wherea accordio to the miaut)8 it applied to reserve day ticket holders as well. Mr Lawis Jones, the seconder, supported Mr Bromley's eoEt-ntijn, but on the mattar bjiug put to the vote it was proved that the latter was the view taken by the mijoriiy. A considerable time wai spent in discussing other points relating to tickets, and a further batch of complimentary tick ts was eventually sanctioned, including passes to all the robed bards taking part in the Go:sedd procession. Mr ? J Ashfield presented the minutes of the Finance Committee, according to which Mr Ti!by 11 and himself had b:(O empowered to appoint an aisistant for ticket checking purposes, and as a result Mr Joshua D ivies bad arranged for a clerk to be in the Eisteddfod grounds all day (applause), Tiie snbsci ipVons t) the Eisteddfol funds exceedei the amount subscribed when the Eis-2 tiddfod was last held at tihyl. Up to date, how- ever, the financial s-titement showed a balaiCJ n the wrong side of t878 4s. Id. Mr P Mostyn W illiilma referred to the Gorsedd stones, and said t'lat Mr A 0 Evans, ex-mayor d I Denbigh, had supplied free of charge a 1 the stones for the inner circle, and a considerable number of those for.ning the outer circle. The Surveyor of Fe-tiniog had also been instrumental in securing a gift of stones by the O .k!ey Quarry Company, and Messrs Bulcock, of Gwespyr, had supplied two fine blocks of Gwespyr stone. The question of entertaining t) luncheon the delegates from the Pan-Celtic Congress was raised. The offr-r of Mr A L Clews, J.P., to subscribe ilO to the luncheon fund was gratefully accepted, and the arrangements wtre rifurred to small committee. Attention was drawn t) various matters relating to toe pavilion, and it was resolved that imme- diate steps ba taken to secure proper ventilation, which was stated to be very inefficient, and that all the -is fittings hi so fixed as to obviat-j any danger of igniting the wood when lit up. Atten- tion was also to be given to the roof, which was said to b'j not quite waterproof. Attenion was ca'lcd by the Chairman to the st^te cf the foo'path from St John's Church to Butterton Road, and on behalf of the Urbln D.strict Council, Mr Ciews promised that what was necessary to be done should hi done as early as possible. A communic ition was received from the Chief Constable of Flintshire (Mijir Webber) stating that the approximate cost of 21 policemen for the Eisteddfod would be from JE.50 to £ 55. At the last Rhyl National Eiatiddfod the bill amounted to 2-10 las. 6d., bat the the number of policemen engaged was less by about half a dozen. Who is t) be blamed for that r" asked one or two members. Mr Roberts Jonos suggested that it was the fault of the beer booths, but nobody showed any disposition to support his statement-. Eventually it was left to the Chairman and Supt. Jones to arrive at the best terms pissible. Mr E Lewis Eraus, as hoa. secretary of the Arts, Crafts, and Science Committee, explained that arrangements had b'en made for the opening of the exhibition in Christ Church British Schools at 12 noon on Thursday, September 1st, by I Princess Louise of Schleswig liolstein. Subse- quent t) the opening ceremony representatives of 6Ach of the Eisteddfo l Committees would be enter- -ned to luncheon at Alorannedd by Mr M. A. J.P. Ra 1111

During late years the West Indian Islands ha v been before the public to a very great extent, an in a large measure they have benefited by th efforts of those who have been instrumental in bringing about their advertisement. In conjunction with the firm of Routledge and Sons, London, they are publishing a book of the West Indies, which not only contains all the information in connection with the West Indies, but which has been written by Government officials and others who possess an intimate knowledge of the places and things of which they write; is edited by a competent journalist who has devoted two years of his life to the task and is copiously illustrated in order to catch the eye and compel the attention of the literary butterfly to whom and for whom books of this kind in their solid nakedness are too strong meat.
