Rhyl District Council Election.
Rhyl District Council Election. TO THE ELECTORS OF THE SOUTH WARD. AND GENTLEMEN, aking into consideration the health of your e iring Members, and their long services, I y expected the Electors-of the South Ward ould have been saved the worry and expense k an Election, but the said Ward has always the battle-ground of persons seeking a *e cheap advertisement and notoriety. I the remarks made by the editor ° the" Journal," when he says what is required e ttien of standing, independence, and breadth "I character. Before I allowed myself to be nllnated for a seat as a Commissioner, I had 8C^ t°wn publicly for a dozen years. In Hi Was e^ecked Commissioner, and up to e, present I feel proud that I have not given single Vote for tjie pUblj[c improvements of hyl that I would now regret or wish to with- I have always studied necessary improve- "lellts with strict economy, and as a member of pe sub-committee for the East and West romenade improvements and sea defences, 'ch I have advocated for 20 years, I have, along severai other old members of the °uncil, been the means of saving you several ousands of pounds. I was the first to propose 111 the Council and advocate to do the work o.urselves, instead of letting it be done by out- lde contractors, and (needless to say) outside iorkmen, which has been the case with several ar8e public buildings erected in our town the last three years. Considering my present state of ill-health, I ■j^Ust ask you to excuse me from a house-to- "°Use canvass, as I must leave your vote to Your own discretion. Again thanking you for Past confidences and trusting to a renewal of same, I am, your obedient Servant, J. S. GREENHALGH, F.R.G.S. %dal Villa, Westbourne Park, Rhyl. I Vote thus X for J S. CREENHALCH, The FIRST Name on the List. (401

Rhyl District Council, 1903.
Rhyl District Council, 1903. TO THE ELECTORS OF THE EAST WARD LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, The term (10 months) for which you elected me to act having come to an end, I have been asked once more to come forward as a candidate for your suffrages. I now appeal to you for a renewal of the confidence you placed in me when you elected me without opposition in June of last year. During the time I have represented you on the Council I have tried to represent the wishes of the Electors, and have voted accordingly. I am totally against the Council building Workmen's Dwellings, for the reason that our financial position is such at the present time that the Council should hold its hand against expenditure of this kind and other similar works. Should you honour me by returning me as your representative, no effort shall be "wanting on my part to justify the confidence reposed in me. I am, Your obedient Servant, W. WINTERBOTTOM. 3 Conwy Street, Rhyl. March 14th, 1903. (344

THE CHURCH SCHOOLS in WALES. The Bishop of St Asaph has summoned for the 7th prox a meeting of representatives of his diocese to consider the offer of what is known as the Lloyd- George compromise under the Education Act. This proposes that on condition of receiving full financial support from the local education authority the voluntary schools should be handed over to the entire control of those authorities, ample facilities being given in return for the provision of denominational teaching at suitable hours. The Bishop of St Asaph is the only one of the four Welsh bishops" ho have made no pronouncement on this subject. His three right reverend brethren have rejected the compromise. —" Courier."
