MARRIAGE OF MR, J. H. SMITH…
MARRIAGE OF MR, J. H. SMITH I AND MISS BATES. A very pretty wedding, in which much interest was evinced, was solemnised by the Rev Thomas Lloyd, Vicar, in St. Thomas' Church, on Wednesday morning, the contract- ing parties being Bessie, fourth daughter of the late Mr Matthew Bates, of Merthyr Tydfil, and Mrs Bates, of the Mostyn Hotel, Rhyl, and John Henry Smith, youngest son ofj Mr Thos Smith (late of Mostyn). The bride wore a becoming gown of daintily-embroidered pale grey, over pale blue silk the yoke of silk was finely tucked, and finished with early Victorian collars of silk and lace. Her hat was a fancy grey straw, with folds of lace and pale blue plumes, secured with a large buckle. She carried a splendid shower bouquet of white roses and lilies, which, with a gold bracelet set with pearls, were the gifts of the bridegroom. The bride was given away by her brother, Dr Matthew Bates, of Bromley, Kent and was attended by two bridesmaids, Miss Maggie Bates (sister) and Miss Irene Goatman (niece), who were attired in Wedgwood blue foulard, with trimmings of lace over white satin, and white silk chiffon fichus, with stylish hats, composed of black sequins and ostrich plumes. They carried bouquets of pink roses, and wore also pearl crescent brooches, the gifts of the bridegroom. Mr Gwynne Sheffield acted in the capacity of best man. The guests present in church included Mr and Mrs Smith (Ty'n-rhyl), Mr and Mrs Perry (Dartford), Master Perry, Mrs Goatman, Mr Hubert Goatman, Mr James Smith, and Mr Worstall (Swansea), The bridegroom's mother wore a handsome costume of black satin brocade, with bonnet of black and silver and white plumes. Mrs Perry was wearing a pretty gown of brown silk crepe de chine, with trimmings of lace over green silk, and hat in which the same colours were prettily blended. Mrs Goatman looked well in a black satin gown, trimmed with silver embroidery, and hat relieved with a knot of bright pink. During the arrival of the wedding party, Mr Vinning played an Offertoire (Weley) and Mendelssohn's Wedding March after the signing of the register. The bride and bride- groom left the church amid showers of confetti, and the church bells rang joyous peals. The equipages were from the Alexandra Mews, and Mr T D Jones supplied the bouquets. Breakfast was served in the bride's mother's house, and later in the day, Mr and Mrs Smi th left for the Lake district, the bride's travelling costume being a heather-mixture tailor-made coat and skirt, with vest.
