DYSERTH. DEATH OF MR ROBERTS, DVSERTH HALL.— After an illness which lasted about thirteen months, Mr Roberts died yesterday, somewhat suddenly, after having been taken out into the open air in the course of the day. The deceased had re- sided exactly twenty years at Dyserth Hall, having formerly farmed at Kelston. He was well-known as Ul extensive dealer, and highly respected by all. He was for many years on various local authorities, and :for the past five years he represented the Dyse rth Division on the County Council. During his illness his' medical attendant was Dr Tnomas, of Rhyl, whilst consultations had been held with Dr Dobie, of Chester, and Dr Richard Williams, of Liverpool. The news ot his death came as a great shriek to his neighbours and friends, and a gap not easily filled up is thus caused in the district.

One of the Rllimllls was shot in the street at a shop door, and another in a garden, in which it, did con- siderable damage. The greatest excitement pre- vailed, but, fortunately, no one was seriously hurt. The RICHARDSON TUBULAR BOATS
The RICHARDSON TUBULAR BOATS AN ACTION AFFECTING £ 10,000. In the Chancery Division on Saturday, Mr Jus- tice North heard a petition for the Court's sanction to deal with a gift to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution otherwise than as directed by the testator, Mr William Richardson. This gentleman seemed to have had a very strong opinion in favor of the superiority of a type of life- boat known as the tubular lifeboats, and one, called the Arthur and Willie, he stationed at New Brigh- ton, Cheshire. By his will he left 910,000 to the National Lifeboat Institution for building and maintaining two tubular lifeboats similar to the Arthur and Willie, one to be stationed at Deal and the other at Pwllheli, but if the institution did not accept the gift with that condition he dis- posed of the 910,000 by giving it for other objects. The two tubular boats were provided and sta- tioned as directed, but as the wishes of local crews have in all the cases of the stationing of lifeboats to be consulted, and the Pwllheli crew not being in favor of that plan, the locality was afterwards changed to Rhyl, and there one of the two tubular boats has stayed for about twenty years. It is now worn out, and the institution wishiug to replace it by a newl boat, but deferring to general expert judgment that the tubular boats is next to value- less as being'unmanageable, asked the leave of the Court to supply the most approved form of boat, the St. Anne's instead of .the tubular. Mr Justice North was informed that the Royal National' Lifeboat Institution has 295 lifeboats round the British coasts, but that the only two tubular boats out of the fleet are the two constructed according to the wishes of the testator. The affidavit of Captain Nepean, the institution's inspector, went to show that the tubular boat is not in favour with lifeboat crews, that being incap- able of being handled bv the crews it has to be towed by a steam tug, and that when the services of the Rhyl tubular boat are required a tug from Liver- pool has to be telegraphed for, and considerable time elapses before her arrival. Evidence was also given that crews refuse to man these lifeboats. Mr Dibdin appeared for the petitioners. Mr Justice North, who, more than once during the hearing of the petition observed that £10,000 seemed a large sum for providing and maintaining two lifeboats, made the order as asked. We have made enquiries locally concerning the particulars referred to above, and we find that not only is it not a fact that the Rhyl crew do not like the tabular boat, but that they prefer it to any other kind. They are prepared to go anywhere with the new one, whereas they never cared for the self-righter. On no occasion has the Rhyl tubular boat become unmanageable like the self- righter, and they have never failed to get her out, much less to send for a tug from Liverpool. There is perhaps some little confusion in the report regarding the names of places. At New Brighton it is said that the boat was always taken out by a tug because she could be towed along more quickly by steam than under oars, and in every port where tug boats are available the Institution use them. We also learn that several crews who have visited Rhyl have gone away favourably impressed by the tubular boat.
