EASTER MONDAY AT COT,WYN BAY.—Easter Monday's unsensonable snowy weather, though not so bad as else where, considerably interfered with Monday morning's pleasure of the thousands of visitors who thronged Colwyn Bay for the Easter holidays, thoush it cleared up in the afternoon a little. There was. however. a good attendance at the first annual n'edal football competition promoted by the Colwyn Bay F C. There was a senior and a junior competition, the winners turning up in the senior competi- tion in Chester Reserve, and in the junior competition in the Colwyn Bay Rovers. In the evening a grand Christy Minstrel entertainment was very successfully given in the Public Hall in aid of the funds of the Colwyn Bay F.O. A large number availed themselves of the cheap trains run by the London and Norili "Western Railway Company to Carnarvon, Llandudno, and other places. NINEVEH AND BABYLON.—A lecture was given on the discoveries of Nineveh and Babylon, and the light they throw on Bible History, by Mr Walter Morris, of Hitchen-, illustrated with large coloured pictures, in the Welsh Wesleyan Chapel, on Friday last. The pictures were numerous, and the lecturer was most explicit in giving his ex- planations. In the palace of the King we noticed large figures, the body being that of a Lion or Bull having wings, and a head of some person of high rank. The lecturer explained that this denoted the power, activity and intelligence of the King in whose palace they were. Among other things found was the black Obelisk, which is about 8 feet high, the writing thereon refer to Zennacherib it dates back 730 B.C. He further explained that among the latest aspirants that came to this country were bought by Mr Assam, Consul consisting of three things,—the first being one of the bricks of which Babylon was built, and although these bricks are 2,500 years old, yet the peasants dig them from the ruins and place them in little carts and take them to build new houses. The second is a lump of clay bear- ing two seals, one the seal of an Egyptian King, and the other that of an Assyrian King the two together were found on some document of agree- ment this date 1,700 B.C. The third is part of a door-step, the front of which is lined with a sheet of bronze on which a King thanks his god for his recovery from his sickness. The lecturer then pointed out some of their own illustrations in which we noticed a fcattering ram on wheels around which were S(*efc.f he arrow words, Slabs, Cylinders, Book Records, &c. And on one of these Cylinders in the arrow words was an account of the attack made by King Sargon in the year 720 on Samaria, II. Kings xx. The lecturer wound up his most able and interesting-lecture by showing how two English officers found out a certain inscription by means of squeezers—and what afterwards proved one history into lan- guages, and it was the key to the arrow lan- guage. At the close Mr T. Roberts, Boston House, proposed a hearty vote of thanks to the lecturer, seconded by Mr Jonathan Roberts, the lecturer briefly responding. ST CATHERINE'S CHURCH, COLWYN.— The altar- cloth presented-by Mrs Bamford Hesketh of Gwrych Castle, Abergele,— to St Catherine's Church, Colwyn, was on Easter Sunday used for the first time. It is of red plush and brocade. The super-frontal of plush has an exquisitely- worked border of fleur-de-lis and roses the frontal is of brocade with orphreys of plush on which the same design as the border is carried out the handsome centre piece is in the form of a cross with the monogram IHS worked on a white ground surrounded by fleur-de-lis. It is a fine specimen of the hand-work of the East Grin- stead School of Embroidery. Mrs Hesketh also donated an altar-cloth suitable for the season of Lent. The sacred edifice was very tastefully decorated with lilies, primroses, and plants for the Queen of Festivals. Mrs Pryce-Jones, Colwyn Vicarage Mrs Eden and Miss Brittain, Colwyn- house; Misses Gilham, Angorfa; Miss Constance Carter the Misses Jones and Squire, of Min-y- don and Miss Lloyd, of Tanycoed, were the decorators. The services throughout were of a bright nature. Anthems were sung at the Welsh and English Services. A large number com- municated at the Celebration of the Holy Eucharist. EASTER TUESDAY AT THE PUBLIC HALL. An entertainment was given at the Public Hall, on Easter Tuesday evening, in aid of the Colwyn Bay Lawn Tennis Club, there being a large atten- dance. Had the intervals between the parts not been so long, the programme would have been far better appreciated, but nevertheless the acting was good, the make-up was good, but the pro- gramme seemed tedious, as there was more "curtain" than performance, and not a single song from beginning to end. The following is a copy of the programme, the first part opening with a farce entitled My Turn Next," in which the following were the characters :—Taraxicum Twitters, (A Village Apothecary), Mr G. J. A FURTHER SUCCESS.—We are glad to notice that Mr Edward Lloyd Owen, Neckarmont, continues to make successful and striking advan- ces in his medical course at the University o Edinburgh. This was Professor Stirling, of Manchester, who after reading Mr Lloyd Owen's paper on Physiology, appeared so pleased and struck with the excellence of the answers that he asked th writer "whether he came from Wales?" and- when our young friend said "from Conway,"— the Professor burst out, saying, Oh I know it it is a beautiful old place He then added th;, l a drive around the Great Orme's Head was delightful; that Wales was" coming up verv fast, and would soon have a University fcr itself."
