He has proved himself long since one of the most despicable wretches that ever breathed. We believe that lie arid two or three other Welshmen, one of whom is •Thomas Lloyd, formerly minister at Watford near this town, •nive been carrying on a system of imposition for years in England by pretending to be engaged in raising contributions or some imaginary chapels in Wales. On the present occasion, Isaac Harris has been caught, and we are sure that the only- regret of our readers will be that his sentence is not much sev erej*. It any consummate scoundrel ever deserved to have a trip over the herring brook at Government's expense, certainly Isaac Harris richly merited the favour. The following is a notice of his trial :-On Saturday, in the New Court, Old Bailey, Isaac Harding Harris, aged 34, described a& au agent, was indicted for obtaining money by false pretences. The prisoner pleaded .Guilty. Mr. Payne, who appeared for the prosecution, stated, tlaat the prisoner was aDissenting clergyman from Wales, and and gone about, icpreseating that he was engaged to raise subscriptions to carry out the philanthropic views of some persons who had lately erected a church and large schoolroom at Salem, in Car- narvonshire, but could not complete their objects for want of funds. In support of his assertion he carried a book of the list of subscribers' names, most of whom were persons of high standing, and the amount of their subscriptions. On inquiry it turned out, that there was no such place as Salem, or any church or school, and that the signatures, for the most part, were forgeries. The 'Common-Sergeant said, the case was a very bad one, and, but for his hiving pleaded Guilty and the information they had received' hat he h id acted as agent for more guilty parties, he should have transported him but, as it was, he should order him to be im- prisoned and kept to hard labour for twelve months.
