Coal Trimmer's Domestic Happiness.. HISTORY OF A LONG CONTINUED FEUD. On Monday morning last, at the Penarth Police Court, Walter Buckland, coal trimmer, Penarth, whs summoned at the instance of the Cardiff Board "f Guardians for non-rmiintunance of his wife, who is at the present time chargeable to the common fund of the Union- MrT. B. Belcher, solicitor, who appeared on behalf of the guaidians. detailed the history of the separation of the defendant from his wife, which originally took place about eight years ago. This was a compulsory separation granted by the magi*- trates, because defendant had deserted his wife- An order was at that time made reqoiiing defendant to pay 5/- a week lowards the maintenance of hi; wife. This was not complied with and the woman became chargeable to the Union fund, and an arrangement was corre to that defendant should pay this amount' to the guardians weekly. Failing again 10 comply j with this t defendant was summoned, and then offered to take his wife back to his home- The woman went home, but when she arrived there he 1 0 to:d her that if she remained he would make it a "hell upon earth for her," and proceeded to do so by abusing her- Another appearance before the guar- dians, and a further agreement broken ltd up to the present proceedings, the guardians, considering it a case that should be properly represented to the Bench in order to obtain a substantial order which they would take care to see cairied out. Defendant j earned E2 a week and could well affoicl to maintain his wife. Wm. Cox, collector, and Elizabeth Buckland were called to prove the circumstances, and the Bench decided to grant an older for a week and costs.
