G hit-Ghat. BY RAMBLING TOMMY. Telegraphic communication between Penarth and Cardiff was interrupted this week, and messages had to be Bent throgh the offices at the dock. WOO; The Beach is certainly much more patronised by Penarth people since the opening of the Pier. o o e One has been surprised to go to the Beach after 8 o'clock at night, and see the large number parading both the Beach and the Pitr. .00 ktany tales have been told detrimental to the bicy- cle. Doctors have, it is said, discountenanced their use. We do not know of one in Penarth who has given such orderp, but we do know of one who has ordered a revetend gentleman to take up this invig. orating exercise as soon as possible. 9 0 0 The Chronicle is still making headway. Again last Saturday a second edition had to be, printed. 0 0 0 The Concert at Andrews' Hall last Wednesday was a grea t success. Farther information, will be given elsewhere- j w Had it not been for a grand concert at the Park Hall, Cardiff, there is little doubt but what the hall would bave been crammed. As it was the attendance was very gratifying and the amount realised substan- tial. To judge by the number of Penartb people who travelled by the last train from Cardiff, who had been to the Park Hall, we should think they represented a good audience themselves. • The demon M La Grippe is no respector of per. sonp. Both the Penarth upper ten," and lower five have been seized by the monster. Influenza, says prominent townsman who has just recovered from its eflects, is a malady of the devil's own sending. 0 0 0 A sure sign that summer is approaching. A cer- tain Society meets next week. and one subject for discussion is the adviaabily or otherwise of opening a picnic fund. 000 The Penarth Free Reading Room is indeed very well patronised. But all things are not perfect there yet. One man asked the caretaker if it would not be better to have the newspapers lowered, as it was a strain and a difficulty to read the tops of the papers. 0 0 0 A correspondent writes:—" That is wanted at the Free Reading Room is a copy of one or two periodi- cals such as Tit Bite, Jnewers, Pearson's Weekly, or Weekly Telegraph," and he further 'sayb "I believe where the others would be read once, the others would be read a dozen times. To have a i eading room with- out the Strand Magazine on its tables is the height of absurdity- The Strand is a thousand times better magazine than some of those found on the tables." Perhaps the Committee will take note. Penarth's an ideal place without a douht, as the following will ahow Two men from Bristol have been at work here dur- ingthe week. They declare, after their week' sojourn that ever trace their arrival they have been looking for dirt but have been unable to find any. 000 They have their meals at a restaurant, and they say the beef steak is the tenderest and most delicious, they have ever eaten-it is cheap, too. The landlady at the restaurant, too, they describe as being like a second mother to them-she is so nice and homely. They tell us also that the beds they slept in were more comfortable than their own at home. Oa the whole they seem to have been unusually fortunate during their week's stay here, and are hop- to pay another visit before long to Penarth. < 00. There's a storm brewing! I must not reveal any- thing more at present. You will know ere long aU about it.
