Church Men's Society.
Church Men's Society. The Rector presided over the monthly meeting of this Society at the Church House on Monday evening. Tee Rev W Gabriel Evans read a paper on whether churches should be free and open. He presented both aides of the case very ably, and, in the discussion which followed, the members seemed generally agreed that oburches should always be open for worship. The feeling was also in favour of free onurcnas, ana Tuari pew rents were an un- desirable means of payment where the amount could b3 raised by other means. The Rector, in summing up the discussion, mentioned that the pew-rent difficulty had been overcome in another parish whoce he had been rector by making a fixed charge in the offertories, which had increased considerably after the change.—The Men's monthly servioe will be held next Sunday at St Mary's Church, at 3 40.

I. The Picturedrome.
The Picturedrome. The films shown at the Pictnredrome this week have been exceedingly good, but the programme arranged for next week will be on a scalegof magnificence vhich would be hard to eclipse in any part of the United Kingdom. To-night (Friday) and Saturday the star picture will be 'The Harvest of Flames,' the story of which is briefly as followsPauline, the factory owner's daughter is engaged to the Inspector of Factories. The owaer tries to bribe the young man so he can evade the fire laws. He refuses. Father then threatens to break his daughter's engage- ment unless the inspector makes a favour- able report. He accepts the ultimatum. The next day the factory barns. Pauline Is trapped. She is s%ved by her sweet- heart and the father relents. For the coming week The Great Circas Fire' and I Uader the Wing of the Mill' will be shewn. The Great Oircas Fire' is a powerful drama in three parts, and is shortly as follows:—Bryan, a young mnsio hall artiste, meets Leonard, the renowned musio hall clown, and hie wife Nora. Leonard, the singer, treats his wife and child cruelly. Nora congratulates Bryan on his excellent turn. Leonard calls the artistes of Brown's circus a degenerate lot, and dares any one of them to ciimb the old mill and balance on the top. Bryan takes up the challenge. Leonard sets the mill v machinery in motion, with the idea of encompassing Bryan's deatb, but Bryan is saved from an awful death. Daring the evening performance the circus Is set on fire by the vivid lightning. Leonard is rescued by Bryan. The latter, being severely irjared, is discharged from hospital. Bryan learns of Leonard's death and acquaints Nora of it. The hands of Bryan and Nora at the finish are grasped together in on long understanding. Under the Wing of the Mill' is a story of ncble instinct and a drama in three acts. This ia a picture of thrilling interest, and should not be missed. What happened to Mary (parts 4 and 5) will be shewn, and the interett taken in this exciting story will, no donbt, attract a very large audience. Other pictures include some comic ones, which are always most popular. See advertisement on page 4,
