E. Broome for assault. Mr J. n. Alianson appeared for the defence. ] L-Vi-ul said he went to the Se.iont to fish on Monday night, and at a. certain spot he went to he saw a rod on the ground. Soon ] after he had commenced fishins Broom-* came there, and said it was his place, and that he (Loveil) should go awav. Lovell re- pjiedi that he had a perfect right to be there, but defendant struck him till he ioll knee-deep into the water.—By Mr Allanson I did not challenge Broome to fight on a previous occasion, nor did I call after him "There goes the champion fisherman." Mr Allanson: Are you not regarded afl a terror of the river?"—I am not more of a 1 terror than anybody else.—For the defence j Mr Allanson said there was no corroboration that any assault had been committed by Broomr- upon complainant. This was not the first t ,r.le that Lovell had brought charges agr.iiist persons who had been river watch- ro". Those charges were dismissed, and he (Mr Allanson) asked the Bench, after hear- ing the defence, to dismiss the case, and not only that, but to order the complainant to pay the costs, inasmuch as he had brought the defendant into Court on a charge in sup- port of which he (Lovell) had no evident Broome gave evidence to the effect that ho was at one time a water bailiff, and since then he had been continually annoyed hv Lovell. On the day in question, witness had fixed his rod on the ground, and wher. he returned to the spot he found Lov'ell standing there and fishing. It was a custom that if an angler had chosen a certain spot and had left his rod there, that he should have tlie first claim to fish ther'e. Lovell knew this well. Broome said he never at- tempted to strike Lovell. who said, "If I had not been bound over in the sum of £10 I would be on top-of you in a few minutes." Broome rl.plied: I know nothing about that. Lovell said: I will bring Tommy down to- morrow night.—Thoma- Evan* and Evan R.. Jones, who were fishing close, by. said thev did not. Me Broo-«e doing anything to Lovell. It was impo?sib'e for him to strike Lovell without them seeing him do so.— The Bench, m dismissing the rns«, ordered Lovell to pay all the costs, including half the advocate's fee.

LLEYN AND ElFIIN SHOW.
LLEYN AND ElFIIN SHOW. ENTRIES INCREASED BY 70 ON LAST YEAR. In the matter of weather the annual show of the Lleyn and Eifionydd Agricultural Society, held yesterday at Pwllheli, fared worse thai any gathering of the kind which has taken place in that district during the present season. What would have proved in every respect an excellent show was, from the public point of view, utterly spoilt by an incessant downpour of rain, which for long intervals denuded the show- ground of spectators, and occasionally drove the judges and stewards for shelter. This had the effect of seriously delaying the judging. The afternoon was well advanced befoie the gathering experienced its first spell of sunshine. The society has an hon- ourable recprd extending. over 48 years. during which period it has been instrumental in stimulating healthy rivalry between the landowning class and tenant farmers. In most of the cattle and horse sections two distinct classes are arranged, winners m the landlord classes being awarded medals and the successful tenants being rewarded with substantial money prizes. For a few years. the society has been hampered by fin- ancial liability, which it has vainly en- deavoured to liquidate, and the Moelwyn Royal Alale Voice Choir was engaged to givet an evening concert in the Town Hall. There was an appreciable increase in this year's entries, which in the aggregate were 70 more than last year. With regard to quality, both the light and cart horses were better than last year. There was an es- pecially good class of agricultural mares and foals, and the same applied to the foals in the other section. The pony classes were also highly spoken of. In the light horse section Mr Cornelius Roberts's numerous successes culminated in his gaining for the third time in succession Mr Rowland LI. Evans's challenge cup for the best gelding or mare. The other challenge cup, that pre- sented by the family of the late Mr Walter Glynn, and. which is held for one year only, was this time won by the Hon. F. G. Wynn with a yearling Hereford bullock, being the champion animal in the show. The ticket of merit for the best exhibit among the cattle waa also secured by Mr Wynn. Mr t Richmond Brown, Llanfair Hall, though not a resident in the district, was the pre- sident. The vice-presidents were Messrs R. W. G-riffith (Berthlwyd) and R. 0. Griffith (chemist), while Col. 0. Lloyd J. fivans (Broom Hall) presided over an influential committee of management. Mr D. H. Parrv (Fronallt), assisted by Air D. J. Jones, had charge of the secretarial duties, and .1' Owen Owen (London City and Midland Bank) wa& the treasurer.

BONTNEWYDD BAZAAR
BONTNEWYDD BAZAAR AIRS LLOYD GEORGE PERFORMS OPENING CEREMONY. On Thursday Airs Lloyd George opened a three-days' bazaar at the Council School, Bontnewydd, in aid of the C.M. Chapei there. There remains a debt of JST-900 on the ohapel, and the bazaar, whioh was pa- tronised by the elit-e of the district had for ;t.,¡¡ object to substantial!^ reduce that debt, Though the weather conditions were more or less unfavourable for a function of the k'.nd, all the available space in that portion of the school allotted to the bazaar was occupied, Jong before Airs Lloyd George, who was the finest of Mr and Airs T. E. Roberts, at Plasvbryn. arrived at the school. Soenee from Welsh village life of two hundred years ago were depicted from designs and decorations supplied bv Alessrs J. Al. Dx Robert Owen. Penygroes. who preedded over the proceedinjgs. spoke a few words in a humorous vein, a.nd called upon Airs Llovd George to declare the bazaar open. Aire Lloyd Geoiige, who was enthusiasti- caUy received, said that they had heard a good deal of late about WeLh chstpel de-hte. and she agreed that it was the duty of th«- people oi the px^esemt day to wipe them off, and not. let them remain for the coaming generations. "Lntil a church was free of its debt it was out of the question for it to administer charity or carry out any good work of a similar nature. They had coil IgreigiaJted together to turn the many anticlee that were around, them into money, and lealvenmhing behind, but an'empty shop applause). Votes of thanks were accorded Airs Lloyd Goobtige. and the chairman on the motion of Air John Davies, Muriau, seconded by Mis :Williams. Gwyrta. Mr Davies saJd they had a vague idea that the Chancellor of the 'Exchequer would also be present, but he had been summoned to wait on the King, for what- purpose, he could not say, but it might be to play golf (laughter). Mr Da- vies congratulated the working men and their wives for the support, they had given to the bazaar, and observed that some peo- ple. from whom they expected a good deal, had kept aloof.
