COLWYN BAY WATER SUPPLY I' A JB25,000 SCHEME. iSpHial for the "Herald.") < We understand that at a. special meeting of the Colwyn Bay and Cohvyu Urban Council to be held to-day (Thursday), the question | of an adequate water supply for Colwyn Bay dristrict. will be fully considered in all its bearings. At present' the town depends for all its water from a twelve-inch main from Cowlyd Lake. The main is drawn upon by various parishes in the Conway Rural Council's area before it, reaches Colwyn Bay, li,en-ce there is not sufficient pressure upon the main in the day time to raise the water to the higher levels oi the district. To meet this difficulty: the Colwyn Bay Ooatncil has already spent over £ 5000 in constructing a high level reser- voir and pumping sltatiojn, and to-day the Council is to consider a further scheme for constructing a large reservoir, above the Pwlly- cfrdc-haoi Wood's, caipable of supplyITVI* the whole district, att an estimated cost of over £ ■25,000. The alternative- is the laying down. of a, new ■ main from Cowlyd Lake. Tliis, on the fa-oe ( of matters, seems to be the most logical way cut of the present difficulty, especially as the 1 existing 12-inch main is now said to have a jJ bore no bigger than 9 inches, owing to incrusta- r tion. But a. legal point has recently been raised by persons interested in Cow lyd Lake L that the terms of the Order granting power II to the Corvvlyd Joint Water Boaid da not per- r miit of a second line of pil' S be- I* iing connected! up to the Lake-t,ha t the iBoard has only power .to take what water will (pass through a single line of 12-inch pipes. n That is a point which has only been raised during the past few months. and in the opin- i ion of gome persons who have studied the mat- ter it is a point which cannot be upheld. If it is upheld, however, there is a second alter- j native, namely, the purchase by the Colwyn Bay Council of the sole right to the waters Ii of Cowlyd Lake. But whatever scheme isi^ adopted, it will be an expensive business, and, 1 unfortunately, the matter of a further water supply is one that requires immediate a.tten- tion owing to the rapidly growing needs of the district. 1
