THE Rev Professor D. E. Jones, M.A., having celebrated his silver jubilee a c the Presbyterian College as tutor, his friends have legai ded this as a proper occasion on which to show their appreciation of the estimable services which he has rendered to the Principality of Wales and to the County of Carmarthen. Professor Jones has been so well known in Carmarthen and neighbour- hood for a generation that it is scarcely necessary to say anything to commend such a movement to the public. In educational matters he has ever been to the fore. He was for years an active member of the Carmarthen School Board, a-id the county is under no small debt to him for the amount of labour which as a member of the Joint Education Committee he expended in assisting to formulate the Ihtermediate Education Scheme for Carmarthenshire. The constructive characteristic of his mind was equally displayed when the County Council had to put the new Local Govern- ment Act into force and to found District and Parish Councils throughout an immense area. His work as a member of tht County Council (of which he is chairman this year), of the Technical Instruction Committee, of the County Governing Body, and of the Carmarthen Intermediate School managers is well known to the public. His influence on the religious life of Wales has been incalculable, as for a quarter of a century he has been engaged at the oldest College in the Principality in the education of ministers of all denominations. Added to these Professor Jones has personal gifts which recommend him to all with whom he is acquainted, and he is known from Holyhead to Cardiff-the Dan and Bersheba of Wales. Under these circumstances it is to be expected that the public of Wales will gladly avail themselves of the opportunity to testify their sentiments towards one whom they hold in such eigh esteem. He is one of those few great men who have no enemies. At a meeting held at the Carmarthen I own Hall lately (Mr Walter Spurrell, the mayor, presiding) a strong committee was formed with Mr J. Lloyd Morgan, M.P., as chairman, to promote a Testimonial Fund. Contributions may be sent to the Rev D. J. Thomas or Mr George Phillips, the hon sees., or the hon. treasurers, Mr W. Morgan Griffiths, J.P., and Mr Henry Howell, J.P. (all of Carmarthen).
