After an Attack. S T. C L E A R S CHAIR EISTEDDFOD.—It is with great pleasure we announce that the following distinguished artistes have been engaged to take part in the evening concert that is proposed to be held at St Clears on the 12th of May, in connection with the chair Eisteddfod :—Mr T. BA K Y FELIX. A GRAND CONCERT was held at the Rankv- felin Board School on Thursday evening, the 17th inst., under the chairmanship of Mr 1.1. R. Carver, Wenallt. By glancing at the posters, and seeing the names of such well- known artistes as Miss Winnie Stephens, the Misses Carver, Miss Robinson, Miss Alice Olive, Mrs Dr R. L. Thomas, Miss Bess Davies, Mr J. F. Lloyd, Capt. Grismond Philipps, Mr Harry Evans, Mr Gomer Davies, Mr David Lewis, and Mr J. A. Davies, one could not bo surprised to see the large audience that had assembled. Mr Carver, of Wenallt, who is so well known and highly respected in the neighbourhood, made a capital chairman. The following programme was gone through :—Part I Overture on the piano by Miss Gracie Carver, Wenallt song, Miss Bess Davies, Smith song, Mr Harry Evans, Carmarthen song, Miss Winnie Stephens, Lan (encored) comic sketch by Mr Gomer Davies, Carmarthen (encored) song, Miss Katie Carver comic song, Capt. A most amusing twenty minutes was here given with the shadowgraph by Mr J. F. Lloyd, who deserves the greatest praise for the clever way in which he acted. Comic song, Mr D. Lewis (encored); finale, "God Save the Queen," Miss Winnie Stephens singing the solo. The Chairman then spoke in a most eulogistic manner of the able way the different artistes had acquitted themselves (luring the evening. He said that all they had seen and heard there that evening was both amusieg and instructive, and he felt very happy to be among so many of his friends. He would do everything in his powpr to support any good cause for the benefit of the neighbourhood. He warmly complimented the audience on their good behavior during the evening. To use his own words, They had given to all a fair hearing." Mr J. H. Thomas, the genial manager of Lloysonen Gardens, here stood up and begged to second Mr Carver'e vote of thanks to the artistes, and re-echoed his words in complimenting both artistes and audience. He also spoke in a most eloquent manner of the good services the worthy Chairman had rendered to the neighbourhood since his return to his old home, The Wenallt Mansion." The accompanist was Miss M. Phillips, Mermaid, St. Clears, and she acquitted herself most creditably. The pro- ceeds are to be handed over to the funds of the Bankyfelin Show Society.

TALLEY. THE Church Workers Guild in connection with the above Parish Church is now in full working order. Sir James Drummond, Bart, the president, the Vicar who is warden, and his industrious secretary, Mr D. W. Griffiths, assisted by a good working council, have carried out a series of successful meetings. The Rev A. T. Fryer, organising secretary of Additional Curates Society spent one busy Sunday here. He preached in the morning, addressed the Sunday School children, after- wards addressing the members of the guild, and after evening service delivering an exhaustive lecture, illustrated by magic lantern views, upon the growth of the town of Middlesboro and its urgent need of aid in Church work. Papers have been read upon the Rules of the Guild, and Gwaith yr Ysgol Sul by Messrs Greening and Daniel Jones, and others are promised. One even- ing was devoted to the presentation of a Bible and Prayer Book suitably inscribed and wishing God speed to Bro. A. Sydney Price, one of the council, who has left home to make his way in Ceylon. He was a most active young man in all kinds of church work, warden for the Primrose League in Talley, and no committee of any kind was complete without him. In his speech when returning thanks the Guild heard what a promising high-class speaker they were losing. His place will be very hard to fill. The presents received from all classes of friends were surprisingly numerous and valuable, and testify to his immense popularity.

BANC-Y-CArEL.—At the above chapel on Thursday (17th inst.), in connection with the Sunday School, a tea party and enter- tainment was held, vrhen a large numbe came together to partake of the good things prepare, and who were very graciously waited upon by the following ladies :—Miss Price and Miss Mathias, Forest Mrs Williams, Gelli-weu; and Miss Lewis, Rhydw. The good family of the Capel Farm were not iu any way backward in doing- their part to make matters pleasant for the members of the Sunday School by allowing them every privilege about the house and farm. After the tea, punctual at 7 o'clock, Mr J. Hywel Rees, Carmarthen (owing to the regretted indisposition of the minister, the Rev J. Lloyd Thomas) occupied the chair, when a programme of 48 items was gone through. It may be added that Mr David Williams and Mr Herbert Jones, Capel Farm (conductors of the juvenile and adult choirs), are to be very much compli- mented for the painstaking manner in which r5 they taught their respective choirs in order to bring them to such a stago of perfection in their rendering of tho different choruses. Recitations were given by Mr John Price, Mr Lewis, and Miss Lewis, Rhydw. Solos by Miss Jones, Capel Farm Mr John Hughes, Pistyll Mr J. W. Rees, Lan Farm and Mr William Morris, St. Anne's (encored). We must not omit to mention the excellent renderings of three choruses by Penygraig Male Voice Party, under the conductorship of Mr Ben Morgans, Croesyceilog, who were accorded a hearty vote of thanks, as also were the ladies whom so kindly waited at the tables. The Chairman also accorded a cordial vote of thanks, which was proposed by Mr Jones., Capel Farm, and secouded by Mr John Hughes. The very pleasant and orderly meeting terminated with the singing of a hymn.

This young gentleman is well-known here for many years, and is never backward in assisting any good cause and there is but little doubt that the Llaugadock ratepayers will show him their gratitude by placing him at a high mark on the day of the poll. Williams charged Mr Davies, Maeslwynog, Llanwrda, with not having a light on his vehicle, as required by the bye laws of the County Council. The case was dismissed.—The same constable charged Daniel Davies with being drunk and disorderly. Fined 5s and costs.—The same constable charged Thomas Dyer with drunkeness.
