Jones, Piccou-t': TaocsiiS Thomas (" Tom Strong ") j Mill-street, was charge* ^vith stealing a pair of [ baskets containing a quantity of mi8",elinoeoas articles. ) P.O. Thomas Davies said About 10.45 p.m. yesterday John Davies, butcher, Ferryside, made a complaint to me. I went to defendant's house in Mill-street I raised him out of bed. He said, Yes, I found the baskets in front of the Castle.' I intended sending out the crier after them in the morning and I hope I shall have something for fiuding them." He brought the baskets down- stairs to me. I then called the prosecutor in. These are the baskets (produced). Thty contained a ladies' cape, butter, sugar, candles, soap, collars and frnits, a comb, and a small box of mustard. They wuuld be worth about X3. I told the defendant to dress and come with me. He did so. He said again that he had found the baskets in front of the Castle Inn, and that he had taken charge of them lest they should be stolen (laughter). The Bench adjourned the case until the following morniug for the appearance of tho Prosecutor. Defendant was liberated on his own recognisences. The adjourned case was heard on Thursday (the 7th inst) before the Mayor, Mr C W Jones, and Mr Howeil Howells. John Davies, Bristol House, Ferryside, grocer and butcher, said that when he went into tho Castle Inn, Priory-street, he put tho baskets outside the door. He then came out and went over to the butcher's shop. On coming out he found the baskets gone. He was told that" Tom Strong had been at tho door so he went to tbo police. He afterwards saw the baskets at Tom Strong's house. Mary Ann Griffiths, a lodger at the Castle Inn, said she saw Tom Strong about the door of the hOtse, Defendant said he thought he might as well get 2s Gd for finding the baskets as anybody else. The Mayor said that defendant had placed himself in a very sf), ions predicament; but he wou'd have tho Lenefi. of the doubt and the case would be dismissed.
The Great Need of the Age…
The Great Need of the Age 6 Is some scientific-ally arranged preparation which will cope effectually with the prevalent diseases of this country, which will be certain to do good when fairly tried, which will bo equally adapted to the needs of the merchant and workman, the professional man, and he who wins his pread by the sweat of his brow, the student, the cleik, the factory hand, the miner, and the roadside labourer. It should be, too, such a pre- paration as contains no injurious ingredients, and which may be taken with impunity by the weakly child or the delicate lady, as well as by the stronger constituted man. Such a discovery would deserve to be called the Perfectiou of Medicinal Preparations, and would be, indeed, an Invaluable Boon to Suffering Humanity. This much-needed Boon has been found, tried, and proved to be satisfactory. It is Gwilym Evans' Quinine Bitters, the vegetable tonic. This world- .p renowned n.ediciae is strongly recommended for affections of the chest, Debility in any form, Depression of Spirits, etc. It is sold in bottles, 2s Ud and 4s 6d each. See the name GWILHI EvANs" on Stamp, Label, and Bottle, as there are numerous imitations. PROPRIRTOITS QUININE BITTERS MANUFACTURING Co., Limited, LLANELLY, SOUTH WALES.

Carmarthen Couuty Court. -f(,ze His Honour Judge Bishop. ANOTHER ROW ABOU r TITHES. This was r care in which the Rev Jonathan Maredcn, Vicar ot Liar-Ilwelli, El, I chaplain to the Joint Counties A-yluin at Carmarthen, sued Dr Daries, Rock H;»ise, Jd^ndyssul, for C4 JOs, for iliree yaars' arrears of rtnt charge payable in respsct of the farm of WerndJu, which is situate in the parishes ot Llangain »nd Llangunnock, and is the piopc-ity of the defendant. Mr Thomas Walter?, solicitor, who appeared for the plaintiff, said that defendant purchased the holding some 15 years ago, and the conveyance contained a special reserra.'io'i that the sale was made subject to a yearly rent charge o: jE5, of which £ 3 JOs was payable to the vicar cf St. Peter's Carmarthen, and the r. Mt (, £ 1 10s) to the Vicar of Llanilwch. Up to three years ago, the defendant had, with more or less reluctance, regularly met the demand, but he now wished to dispute his liability, and desired to know how end whv he shouid pay the charg. He (Mr Walter) contended that his client was not called upon to tender an explanation this ought to be g;)t by the defendant from the Charity Commissioners All the plant.iff kn nv was that lh? rent charge arising from the firm had been paid fur the pist century, and it was rather late in ,he day to r-.is'j a dispute about the legality of the payment The plaintiff had received the money for the past 27 years, and his Ho? our was asked to hold that under the circumstances 'he defendant was not entitled to dispute the cltim. The defendant w shjd to put in the conditions of sc,L', b ;t his Honour slid they had nothing to do with the casr, aud did^not allect the plaintiff's title. 1), f eridant I have asked Mr Marsden to t-all me whether the charge is for a chllity or not. His Honour You must find that out yourself. You cannot expect people to satisfy all the curiositv in your nature. Defendant I say that it is rot a legal bequest. Hi3 Honour I cannot say whether it is (r not, but you h.ire pai<J i: for 15 yt-ars. Defendant But I have desputed it. His Honour Ptihaps so Jt¿ rulirt find out in another way whether the charge is illegal or not. At present you are not in a position to tight it out against the present claimant. If you are curious you must go throngh the old C:ronI,*cles of Car- marthenshire" Defendant I bought the farnj on these conditions (holii,r, up a c'curuen,)- His Honour But thst has nothing to do with me.
