On Wednesday the remains of Mr. John James, 28 King Street, Abertridwr, were interred at Penyrheol Cemetery. The Rev. E. G. Davies, his pastor, and Rev. W. S. Davies, Llwydcoed, his former pas- tor, officiated. Mr. James resided at Trecynon until about 10 years ago. He was 59 years of age and leaves a "widow and seven children. The Mourners were: The Widow; Messrs Edgar and David James, sons; Mr. and Mrs. W. Prosser, Trecynon, Mr. ^nd Mrs. Tom Prosser, Misses Mabel, Lena and May James, daughters; Messrs. Terms Cash. CARMEL. On Sunday last, the pulpit of Carmel English Baptist was occupied by the Rev. R- Raikes Davies, Huddersfield, whose father was at one time a minister at Tony- pandy. The text at the morning ser- vice was from Heb. 11, 12, By faith Moses," etc. In the evening Ile preached on the faith of a soldier. The preacher served for 3t years as a "ranker" in the British Army, and saw service in France and Bel- glum. OBITUARY. — On Monday last week, Mr. Clifford Findon-Browne, d Bute Terrace, passed away, a victim to pneumonia, at the age of 20 years. The interment took place on Thurs- day at the Aberdare Cemetery. The mourners were:—Mr. Joseph Findon Browne, father; Mr. and Mrs. Wal- ter Findon-Browne, Cardiff, uncle and aunt; and Mr. T. Lewis, B.A., vicar, officiated. Clifford, who was only ill a fortnight was a member of St. Elvan's choir as a boy. He was employed as' a clerk at Dare Junction, G.W.R. The parents are the objects of genuine sympathy. THE FUNERAL of the late Mrs. Harriet Manning of 51 High Street, took place at the Aberdare Cemetery on Thursday, March 6th, when the Rev. J. L. Phillips officiated. The chief mourners were —Husband; May and Phyllis, daughters; Ed. Bedford, father; Mrs. Rose Hyde, sister; Mr. Ben Bedford, brother; Mr and Mrs F. Manning, Mr and Mrs J. EXAMINATION- In connection with the Education Committee of the Cwmbach Co-operative Society, an examination was held on Monday at Blaengwawr School. The subject was "Co-operation." and the super- visors were Mr. D. J. Phillips and Mr G. Rowlands. MEETING. On Sunday last a meeting was held in the Grand Theatre under the auspices of the Aberdare Independent Labour Party. Miss M. Pallister, Welsh Divisional Organiser of that body, was the speaker and for upwards of an hour spoke to a large audience, who greatly appreciated the ready wit and eloquence of this gifted young lady. fr. Fred Palmer, Aberdare,. was the chairman. OBITUARY. An old and much respected resident of the district has passed away in the person of Mrs. James, widow of the late Mr. Wil- liam James, formerly of Cwmneol Farm, at which place they resided for 21 years. Afterwards the de- ceased lady had lived at No. 67 Cwm- aman Road, where, after a short ill- ness. she passed away on March 3rd. Having always been very active and alert, her death, in spite of the ad- vanced age of 78 years, came as a shock to the many friends and rela- times. The funeral, which was pri- vate, took place at the Aberdare Cemetery on March 6th. the follow- ing gentlemen attending:—Messrs. John James, Aberaman Farm, Thos. James, Aberrwmboi Isaf, Isaac James. Tredegar, sons; Glyn James, grandson; Robert Howells, Aberdare, and Albert Howells, Maes- gwyn, T. Lotting, Director of Educa- tion, David James and Richd. James, Cwmaman, Fred James aRd Gomer James, Cwmbach, Danl. Davies, Tre- cynon, Edwd. Davies, Aberdare, E. P. Thomas, Pontypridd, Evan Rees, Treforest, nephews. The Rev. E. R. Dennis, Hen Dy Cwrdd, was the of- ficiating minister. Born in the par- ish of Llanwonno, the deceased lady had spent the greater part of her life in the Xo-erdare Valley. She had been predeceased by the late Mr. James 22 years.

A very well-known and highly respected resident of Aberaman has passed away in the person of Mrs. Martha Emily War- low, after but a few days' illness, the cause of death being pneumonia fol- lowing influenza. She was only 39 years of age, and leaves to mourn her loss her husband, Mr. Tom Warlow, two children of tender years and her aged widowed mother. She was the daughter of the late Mr. John Kel- low, of Aberdare, and had lived all her life in the district. The funeral took place on Monday, March 10th, at the Aberdare New Cemetery. The mourners were:—1st coach, Hus- band; Wyn and Maud, son and daughter; Mrs Kellow, mother; Mrs Morris, Cardiff, sister; Rev. Shirley Windram; 2nd coach, Mrs. R. War- low, Port Talbot, Mrs. Wm. J. Kel- low, Mrs. Ben Kellow, sisters-in-law; Mrs. Edwards, Mrs. 'Llewellyn, friends. Walking behind the hearse were Messrs. W. J. Kellow and Ben Kellow, brothers; Aben Warlow, Pembroke, and Bob Warlow, Port Talbot, brothers-in-law; Dd. Bowen, cousin. The bearers were Messrs. George Cutland, Alf Rees, George Reddick, William Gillard, George Bignal, David Evans. Mr. David Collier was theundertaker. Beauti- ful wreaths were sent as follows: — From Husband, children and mother, with deep sympathy; spray from little Wyn: Brothers and sister?; Bob and Edith; Cousins in Gladstone Street; Primitive Methodist Church, Aberaman: the Committee of Work- men's Hall and Institute, Aber- am an the Staff and artistes at Grand Theatre, Aberaman; the Stokers and Enginemen at Lletty- shenkin Colliery; (glass) from the Neighbours, with great sympathy. General sympathy is felt for Mr. Warlow and his two children, and also for the aged mother. They re- side at 35 New Street.

Aberdare. APPOINTMENTS. At the last meeting of the Management Commit- tee of the Public Hall and Institute, the appointment of a Correspondence and Minute Secretary took place. There were nine applicants, and the final ballot resulted as follows:—Mr. W. O. Lloyd, 12; Mr Chas. Hanks, 13. Mr. Hanks was therefore appointed. —A special general meeting of the members took place on Monday even- ing to make the appointment cf two relief men on the staff at the insti- tute. These two men will assist in the evening for the purpose of intro- ducing the 48 hour week for the per- manent staff. Mr. D. R. Jones pre- sided, supported by Mr. John Lewis (vice-chairman), and Mr. C. Hanks. correspondence secretary. There were thirteen applicants, and the first' ballot resulted lis follows:—Mr. T S Rees, 103; Mr. Joe Isaac, 9< and Mr. Lot Rees, 65. A final bailor was taken, Messrs. Joe Isaac and F. S. Rees being appointed. The votes were Isaac. 122; T. S. Rees, 115: Lot 75. It was decided that if one of the appointed relief men failed to attend, first choice be given to Mr. Lot Rees. DRAMA. — On Thursday exening last the Seion (B.) Dramatic Society gave a splendid performance of thai well known Welsh drama. "Rhys Lewis." adapted from the novel of Daniel Owen by Mr J. M. Edwards. The first part of the Burial Service was held at St. Elvan's Church. The hymn a 0 God-, our help in ages past" was sung. The mourners were:—Mr. Pritchard, father; Messrs. W. H. Williams and R. Pritchard, uncles; W. Lewis, bro- ther-in-law; and C. Stocker, brother- in-law. The Revs. J. L. Phillips and H. Thomas officiated. Lewis and Hugh Oxen- ham. m OBITUARY.—On Tuesday evening, last week, whilst Miss Elsie Win- stone, 28 Bute Street, was proceed- ing down Monk Street, after visiting her friend in Unity Street, she was suddenly overcome with sickness, and with great difficulty reached che house of Mrs. Jones, 5 Pendarren Street, where she expired in ten min- utes from hemorrhage. The body was conveyed to her home, and the intei- ment took place on Saturday at the Aberdare Cemetery. The mourners were:—Mr and Mrs W. R. Winstone, parents; Willie and Walter, bro- thers Mary, sister; Mr. W. Phil- lips, fiance; Mrs. J. Williams, Gos- pel Hall Terrace, and Mrs. Hook, aunts; Messrs.
