IMEMS FROM THE MOUNT.
I MEMS FROM THE MOUNT. I A happy new year and may '19 prove better than 18 carat. I One of those unrehearsed inci- dents occurred at the Empire on New Year') ove. Mr Stratford, the collier hero, was struck by the villain and supposed to faint. As his eyes were closing, one of our irrepressi- bles in khaki called out, "No whis- key, Tom The audience were con- vulsed with laughter in which the good natured actor was perforce compelled to join. Among my New Year felicitations was a happy message from Sergt. Fred Griffiths, 5/Welsh, who has now Spent, his 4th Yuletide under the Eastern sun. In private life he was a teacher under our Education Committee, and his brother, Percy, was scoutmaster. Alany of those boys have heeu out—and some never to return. Sgt. MeOcibr from Penrhiwtynte had arranged his nwn in alphabeti- cal order to receive their pay. When Dai Phillips' turn came the Sergt. was highly incensed. "Be jabers, ye 11 go last now," he shouted, "y'ought to have come along with the F's." The Mount workmen can always relied upon to roll up for charity. ciic, til'n for £ 171 odd was the re- sult of their benefit week at the Workmen's Hall for the Cottage Hospital. w An Oxiord Street bootshop mana- ger suggests that his high legged loots shouid be labelled, "they cover a niuitit" of shins." There iuo six Thomas Webb's working itt Brown's Deep, Cwm- cynon, said a witness at the Police Court Last Thursday. The John Joneses have lost easily, at least in that deep company. I Another witness at the Police ¡ Court informed the Bench that he had been "told to write to Mr. Tom Euas, Chief of the Police, about the matter." The learned clerk of the Court listened interestedly to the story of his greatness, but preserved an immobility of countenance like a judge in probate.
