A large number of children sat down to tea, after which the Rev E. T. Evans presided over the meet- ing. ABERNANT. | JAY'S easy payment system is easy 'DRAMATIC RECITAL.—Miss M. J. Francis (Llaethfereh) visited Belhel Chapel on Thursday evening and gave, a very fine programme. The chapel was well filled, and the pro- ceeds went in aid of the Abernant War Heroes Welcome Home Fund. • The chair was occupied by Councillor W. Thomas, and during an interval delivered a brief speech as also did I the minister, Rev. B. Williams. The items inelded "Caclaii, Tregaron," by Rev. J. J. William s, and this piece took remarkably well with the aud- ienee. At the close the chairman was heartily thanked on the motion of Mr Dd. James, seconded by Guardian Morgan Williams.

R ETURNED PRISONERS OF WAR.—Sapper Roes Edwards, Royal Ej'ginec-is, m_>n of the late Mr. nnw Mrs Henry Edwards, has now return- ed home after having been a prisoner of war in Gennanv for 9 months. Sapper Edwards, who was with the Army when war broke, out, was drafted out with the first Expedi- tionary Force, and was in the mem- orable retreat from Mona. The hard- ships endured by Sapper Edwards since he hus'been a prisoner are al- most incredible. Once he was kept within the fire of the British guns behind the German lines. His only brother Pte Amos Edwards, fell about two vears ago whilst on active service in France. SERVICE OF SONG. At Brjn Seion (Cong.) Chapel on Sunday las:, services of song were held. WHIST DRIVE AND DANCE.- On New Year's eve the P.D. clerical staff held a whist drive and dance at the Church Hall. Mr. R. ^W Rob- erts, cashier, presided, and there were over 150 present. The M.C. of the whist was Mr. Dd. Badham, whilst Mr. W. H. Perrv was M.C. of the dance. Music was supplied by Mr. Wr. H. Burrows' band assisted by Mr. Austin Williams. Refreshments were provided bv Misses Jackson. Ethel Morris, Edith Jones, Mrs. Mills. Misses Preece, Miss Lawrence, Miss Williams, and Miss Rees. The winers of the whist were: -Gentlp- men:-(1) Mr. W. OBITUARY. -li is with deep re- gret that we record the sudden death of Mrs. Jane Williams, 85 Jenkin St., who viis a native of Carmarthen, but had resided at Abercwmboi for 50 years. Her husband, Mr. John Williams, had predeceased her by 8 years. Deceased, who was 73 years of age, was about on Wednesday, and at 10 p.m. retired for the night. Soon afterwards she called her daughter, Airs. Edward Williams, who hasten- ed to the room. The old lady ex- pired in a few minutes from heart failure. OBITUARY. I Mr. Ben Oar Lewis. I <4Y Drafod," published in the Welsh Settlement, Patagonia, an- nounces the death of Mr Hen Dar Lewis, at the age of 20 years. He passed away on Sunday, Nov. 10, at passed away on Sunday, Nov. 10, at Y Gaiman. and was buried on tho following Monday at Trelew Ceme- terv, the Rev. D. J. Williams, M.A., and Mr. D. D. Walters officiating. Mr Lewis was a native of Trecynon, and emigrated to Patagonia about 6 years ago, followed soon afterwards bv his father and mother, Mr and Mrs Ben Lewis, with whom and with deceased's young widow gener- al sympathy is felt. He was a nephew to Councillor Tom Lewis, Trecvnon. The widow is n sister to Airs." George Dean, Park Lodge, Tro- eynon. The late Mr Lewis was an electrician and had an extensive business in the Welsh Settlement, He was also the proprietor of a eine- ma in Y Gaiman. He was passion- atelv fond of music and a clever vio- linist. He took an active part in philanthropic movements in Pata- gonia. He held a St. Jolm Amhu- lence certificate and performed good service for the Red Cross. He was an enthusiastic Welsh Nationalist, and a lover of the Eisteddfod and all Cymric institutions. Several writers in "Y Drafod" pay high tributes to deceased's sterling character and ] godly life, j Mr and Mrs George Dean have ] just received a letter from deteareel's ¡I father and mother, in which they state that their eon died from com- plications arising out of an attack of J influenza. His sudden death was a I great shock to the whole town ot I Trelew, where lien was held fn high esteem by people of a.ll nationalities —Spaniards, Italians, Greeks, Turks, 1 Germans, English and Welsh. The ¡ funeral was one of the largest over seen in Trelew. The cortege con- tained from 40 to 50 motor ears be- sides other vehicles, and many at- j tended on horsehaeft.
