In the report last week of the death in action of Private James Weaver, 16 Incline Row, in France, we omitted to state that deceased leaves a widow and four children, the yopngest of whom, 15 months old, he never saw. The bereaved family are the objects of general sympathy. A RECEPTION was held at the English Wesleyan Church on Thurs- day to welcome the return of Lance- Corporal Alec. Phillips, lately employed at the Aberaman Branch (Cwmbach Co-op.), is now in France with the Welsh Regiment.—Private James Thorney, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thorney, is now stationed at Redcar,' having removed with the battalion from Rhyl.- Driver (Councillor) D. E. Davies, I R.F.A., is at Preston, also Private Willie Morris, son of Mr. and Mrs. Morris, Mount Hill Street.-Private Ben Jones, another Co-op. employee, is with the R.A.M.C.—Corporal Rhys James, formerly of George Street, is still in France, also Lance- Corporal Evan Morgan, son of Mrs. Morgan, Jubilee Road. Both are in the Cardiff Pals, and each have been home on leave.—Private Evan Per- kins, who was aboard the Transyl- vania when she was torpedoed, is now in France.—Private Stanley Davies, son of Mr. and Mrs. Davies, Gladstone Street, is home from the front. He was previously wounded, and when coming over on the second occasion was abgaiYl a hospital ship which was torpedoed. He has three brothers in the Army: Private Hob Davies (now discharged); Private Handel Davies, Welsh Regiment, now in France, and Private William Davies, R.E. (wounded).

Tom Middleton is taking a well- earned rest after his serious illness. His bulk is considerably reduced, but his spirits are not damped. PARISH CHURCH. Holy Com- munion was celebrated at eight o'clock in St. Margaret's Church on Sunday morning. Morning prayer was conducted by the Rev. T. J- Morgan, and -Holy Litany was in- toned'by the Rev. J. A. Trow. Even- song was conducted by the Vicar. I.O.G.T. The Retreat Lodge was held,, on Thursday evening at Providence Vestry, Bro. Cook, D.C-, in the chair. CONCERT PARTY. Mr. T. Wil- liams, M.E., presided over a large attendance at the concert given by the above party last Friday evening at the Workmen's Theatre. The artistes were Madame Clee Williams and Miss Maggie Rees and Messrs. John Rees, John Williams, Morgan Edwards, Master D. J. Hardiman and the party. The latter, con- ducted by Mr. Tom Jones, gave brilliant performances of "The Tyrol," "Italian Salad," "To Arms," and "The Miserere." Mr. Tom Evans' is the secretary, and has or- ganised a tour for the party to visit the Red Cross Hospitals of South Wales, L PROPOSED PRESENTATION. — Councillor W. Millar presided over a meeting at the Recruiting Office on Monday for the purpose of honouring Rev. Father Irvine, who recently left Mountain Ash. There were present: Councillor Griffith Evans, J.P., Messrs. Morgan Edmunds, T. Scur- lock, Dr. Gwilym Pierce, Messrs. C. Austin, D. T. Evans, W. II. Phillips, P. Bracchi, and P. J. Barrett. COLLIERY CASUALTY". — On Wednesday afternoon a man, named Edward Richards, was seriously hurt at the Penrikyber Colliery. He was immediately conveyed to the Cottage Hospital. THE PALACE. — A fine Kineco masterpiece of five reels, entitled "A Foot's Paradise," is being screened by Mr. Bert Richards on Monday, Tuesdav and Wednesdav next. This delightful film is the story of an up- to-date romance and cleverly staged, and is sure to fie a big attraction. Mr. Richards announces as coming shortly Pathe's great new serial, "The Shielding Shadow." He also asks his patrons to look out for Harding Thomas, the great Welsh actor, and many other starring features. WEDDING. — The marriage of M is- Alice Angel, daughter of Mr. E. Angel, 53 Phillip Street, to Mr. Edward Mauley, took place at the R.C. Chu^lf. Llanelly, on Tuesday. The bride wore a pretty mauve costume and a pale blue hat, and was accompanied by Miss Gladys Angel, Miss M. E. Davies and Mrs. A el \Iiss M. White. She was given away by her lather, and the best man was Mr. Jack Donnachie. There were also present:—Mr. William Angel, Mr., Jonah Thomas. The flower girls were Doris Jones, Doris Davies, and Katie Davies. NIXON'S CASHIER BEREAVED. —The death of Mr. Tom Richards took place at Johannesburg, South Africa, on Saturday last. The^news came by cablegram on Sunday morn- ing. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Tom Richards, Northlands, Mountain Ash (late of Foundry Terrace). It was just before Christmas of E\1.J. that young Tom went away to recruit his fiiiliiig health, and up to the last minute his parents were quite ignorant of anything alarming in the state of his health. He was 26 years of age, and was interred on Monday. We associate ourselves with the general expressions of sympathy. FUNERAL. — The interment of the remains of Mrs. Selina Stevens, widow of the late John Stevens, 22 Bailey Street, took place in Cae- garw Cemetery on Tuesday, the Rev J. LI. Davies officiating. Deceased was an old resident, and was 81 years of age. The mourners were: Messrs. T. C. Stevens and George Stevens, sons; James and John Stevens, grand- sons; Job Stevens, nephew; Private H. Pearce, Messrs. T. Warren and G. Harford. The funeral arrange- ments were carried out by Mr. Frank Mills.

Davies, M.A., Llandaff, preached. The choir (under the concluctorship of Mrs. J. T. jQiies) rendered valuable services, and sang a suitable anthem. The clergy of the parish assisted at the services, and Mr. W. J. Cannings presided at the organ. CHURCH CONCERT. On Mon- day evening the annual concert of St. Donat's Parish Church was held at the Palace, Abercynon (kindly lent). Mr. John Sutherland, Selma, occupied the chair, supported by the Rev. D. Ellis Jones, L.U, Vicar. A11 excellent programme was con- tributed ,as Quartette, Mrs. J. T. Jones, Madam Da-vj.es, Messrs. Thomas and Williams. On June 1st Mrs. Laura Prichard, wife of Mr. Evan Prichard, passed away in her 51st year. She was a native of Talysarn, Carnarvonshire. She leaves a son, Mr. John Prichard, and a daughter, Airs. Morris, Anglesea. The funeral took place on Wednesday, June 6th. when a large number of friends attended. The interment was at Abercynon Cemetery, the Revs. B. Howells, Calfaria (B.), J. K. Davies, and H. Jeffreys officiating.

The result of the St. John Ambulance examination is to hand, and the figures reflect great credit upon the lecturer, Dr. F. G. H. Whitley, and the instructors, Messrs. Rees Hopkins and M. Davies. The 14 candidates who pre- sented themselves were successful. First-aid certificates: Joseph Morris, Ernest Priday, Luther Jones, David Morgan Evans, Edw. Lloyd and David T. Louder. The examiner was Dr. D. de Vere Hunt, and the secretary Air. Alfred Emerv, 64 Robert Street. MILITARY". — Private Teddy Leeks has been invalided home from France for the second time. The first time he was wounded in the hand at the battle of Mametz Wood, and was incapacitated for several months, but when he got well he was passed for active service again, and was sent back to France about the middle of last winter. However, Teddy had not been out there very long before -he was disabled again, this time in the neighbourhood of the Somme, and was sent back to England suffer- ing from trench feet. He has been for some weeks in a military hospital at Durham, where he was operated upon. He is now at a convalescent home at Prescot, near Liverpool.. He is the second son of Mr. and Airs. Llewelyn Leeks, 10 Thompson Street, Ynysybwl, and prior to enlisting was employed at the Lady Windsor Colliery. Ynysvbwl. INTERMENT. The remains of Mr. Griffith Lewis, 7 Thompson Street, who was killed at the, I adN- Windsor Colliery (as reported in our previous issue) were interred at Ynysybwl Cemetery on Thursday. The mourners were: Widow; Gnif Lewis and Samuel Lewis, sons: Nellie, Esther, Annie Alary, and Gweny, daughters; Airs. Heard, sister; William and Richard Heard, nephews; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jones, brother and sister-in-law; Mr. and Airs. William Jones. brother and sister-in-law; Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Griffiths, Air. and Mrs. Owen Jones, Air. and Airs. Evan Williams, Porth; Air. and Mrs. Robert Davies, Mr. and Mrs. Ed- ward Hughes, Mr. Evan Rowlands, Porth; Air. and Mrs. Thomas, Rhymney, cousins. Many floral tributes were received. The Rev. Isaac Morris, B.A., B.D., officiated. INQUEST. An inquest touching the death of Griffith Lewis (47), a night timberman, who met with a fatal itccident at the Lady Windsor Colliery, was held at the Workmen's Institute on Alonday before the Coroner (Mr. R. J. Rhys). Evidence of identification was given by de- ceased's son, Griffith Lewis.-Wil- liam Hughes, the partner of the man who was killed, said that Lewis was standing on a full tram "lagging" the side, and in lifting a heavy stone to place it overhead he slipped off the tram and fell against a sprag. knocking it out. thus causing a fall of roof.—David Alorgan Evans, night fireman in charge of the dis- trict, was about 12 yards away when the accident occurred. He pro- cured assistance to release Lewis. EnEl:- had examined the cogs and found them intact.-f. J. John. DEATH OF MR. SAM WILLIAMS, SURVEYOR. Last Saturday Mr. Samuel J. Wil- liams, better known as Sam Wil- liams, Surveyor, Aberdare, died rather suddenly at Pontygwaith. Rhondda Fach. During the last few weeks he resided at Porth, and was engaged as surveyor at the Gelligaled Colliery, Ystrad Rhondda. His eldest son is in Colorado. Another son, Mr. T. J. Williams, lately of Aberdare. manages the Pontycymmer branch of Messrs. Hodges and Son, while a third, Mr. O. L. A. Williams, is a colliery surveyor at Treherbert. Nurse Bird, Monk Street, is a daughter of the late Mr. Williams. Some years ago the deceased was employed by Mr. W. Thomas, J.P.. Brynawel, and was regarded as as an able professional man. The fun- eral, which was private, took place on Tuesday, the interment being at Aberdare Cemetery.
