ST. FACAN'S EAstER VESTRY. The Vestry for the Parish of St. Fagan was held oil Easter Monday, the Vicar (Rev. Richard Jones) presiding. The accounts for the year showed a small deficit, due to the substantial assistance given to outside claims. The following officers were appointed Churchwardens, Mr. Walter J. Par- rish "and Mr, Evan Williams; Sides- men, Messrs. J. Wilks, William .Jones, David Jones, Thomas Jones, John Jones. W. H. Beer, Thomas Beaslev, S. T. Joiliffe, E. H. Thomas, W. Jeil kins, A. Southey, J. Steward, G. Tudor Williams, P. T. Rake, W. Gwyther, J. Lowe, George Lewis, John Thomas, A. Thomas, Evan Hughes, J. Berry, and Ivor Bevan. Auditors: Messrs. Geo. Lewis and Morgan J. Davies. On the motion of Mr. W. J. Parrish it was unanimously resolved that the Easter offerings from the parish church (X7 15s. 3d.) be given to the Vicar. The Vicar expressed thanks to all church workers for their ready help during the year. The following were elected as lay representatives to the Ruri-Decanal Conference :-Messrs W. Jones, Thos. i Aberdare Police Court. I Wednesday, April Igth.-Before Messrs R. A. Griffith (Stipendiary), E. M. Haiin, L. N. Williams, F. 'W. Man- der and Frank Hodges. Drunks.—Thomas Jones, in Aber- dare Win. Jones, in Pleasant View, Godreaman; John Davies, in Com- mercial Street; Catherine Davies in Commercial Street; Dd. Richards, in Cardiff Road; Wm. Edmunds, in Mar- ket Lane, 12s. each. Horse Unattended.—Arthur Johnson, Aberaman, was summoned for leaving his horse and cart unattended at Aber- ewnil)ol .-P.C.. Histon proved the case. —Fined 6s. Pedlar's Licence.—Mary Ann Davies, of Merthyr, was secli by P.C. William Jones, Trecynon, selling articles from house to house. When he asked her if she had a pedlar's licence she admitted she had not.—The Bench dismissed the case on the woman undertaking to take out a licence. Killed a Lamb.—Geo. Jones, Aber- cwmboi, was summoned for not keeping his dog under control. Air. W. Thomas defended. A bov named Glvndwr Morris, 21 John Street, Abercwmboi, said that on April 6th he was at the back of John Street when he saw a dog chase a lamb. The dog bit the lamb's neck and killed it. The defendant's boy then went after the dog and took it away. It was a whippet dog.—By Mr. Thomas: He did not see other dogs about.—P.C. Histon said that after a complaint had been made to him he went to see the defendant, who said he knew nothing about it. Later the de- fendant's son made a statement, which was conveyed to the father, who then said he would pay for the lamb. De- fendant added that he was not prepared to destroy the dog if he had to pay £ o for it. Jones had seen the owner and paid £1 for the lamb. Mr. Thomas said that his client had been careful in keeping the dog under control. His son had taken it out and it got loose.— The Bench fined him 10s. and ,costs and ordered him to keep the dog under control. The Stipendiary added that the' next time the dog did anything of the kind, the defendant would be or- dered to destroy it. Unsubdued Light.—Dominico Cruc-i, ice-cream vendor, Cardiff Street, was summoned for not subduing the lights in his refreshment house.—P.C. Bird said he saw the lights full on at 11.3.3 p.m. The lights were brilliantly illum- inated.—Fined 10s.—A similar penalty was imposed on W. B. Stephens for a like offence. After Hours.—David Jones was or- dered to pay 10s. for trading in the Market after 9 p.m. on Saturday, March 24th.-D,-fen(lant said he did not realise it was so late.

Control Board Order. Abercwmboi Landlord's Lapse. David Bowen, licensee of the Capcoch Inn, was charged with an offence under the Liquor Control Board Order, and Wm. James and Thomas Bevnon were summoned for aiding and abetting him. Mr. W. Thomas defended. P.C. Histon deposed that on Satur- day. April '7th, at 9.3-5 p.m., he visited the Capcoch Inn. In the kitchen he saw the three defendants. Bowen had a glass of whiskey and the other two defendants had a glass of stout each. He asked the landlord what they were drinking, and he at once admitted they were intoxicating drinks. "Are you aware of the time?" asked the con- stable. The landlord replied: "It is late." Bowen then said that the drinks had been served at 8.55. Mr. W. Thomas said that the two men had called to see Bowen on busi- ness, and were not in the habit of visit- ing public-houses. The Bench held that the Order had been contravened, and lined the land- lord £10 and the two men £5 each.

Another Contravention of the Order. Roger Williams, the .landlord of the Gadlys Arms, Robertstown, answered a charge of contravening the Order, and John Davies was summoned for aiding and abetting. Mr. W. Thomas de- fended. P.C. Banks said that at 3.10 on Mon- day, April 9th, he called at the house and there saw the defendant Davies standing in the bar. There was a glass of beer in front of him. When Wil- liams saw witness he took away the o-Iass or beer which Dilvies was drink- ing Witness said: "What is" this o-ame, Roger?" Roger replied it was hop bitters. What do you say it is, Davies?" asked the constable. "I don't know what it is." he replied, "but I ordered hop hitters." The constable obtained the glass back from the landlord. There was a drop of beer in the bottom, and witness smelt and tasted it, and was satisfied it was beer. The landlord fetched an empty hop bitters bottle, and said that that was the bottle supplied. Witness told him he could come down to Abei-dare Police Station if he liked. He excused him- self by stating that he had no one to look after the house. Mr. Thomas addressed the Bench and said that the landlord was over 70 years of age, and this was the first charge brought against h'.m- The Stipendiarv saul the offence was ag- .rn vaied bv the attempt to impose upon the officer and persisting in saying that the beer was hop bitters. Annulling a Maintenance Order. Charles Allen sought to annul a main- tenance order made against him by which he had to pay 1;)8. a week towards his wife, Ann Allen, of Dare Street, Aberdare. Mr. W. Thomas, for the husband, said that the application was made on the ground that she had been guilty of adultery. The husband gave evidence, stating that he had been in the Army since Oct 1914, and was discharged from hospital on June 29, 1916, on which date he came home to his parents in Aberdare. It was in January, 1916, that he last visited home, and he then complained to his wife concerning a man named David Williams, with whom she was walking about. It was in • September, 1916, that, he next saw her, when the maintenance order was in- creased to 15s. per week. Between January and June 29th he did not see his wife at all. When he came to Aberdare on June 29th his father and mother had to carry him from the station to No. 10 Banks St., Aberdare. He did not leave the house during the following 7 days. On July 7th his wife came to blackguard him, and a con- stable had to turn her from the house. He never went to his wife's house at all. A few days later a Mrs. came on to him and complained about the conduct of his wife. His wife was close by and slapped him in the face. He had not cohabited with her since January, 1916. By the Stipend larv: He was not the father of the child. Mrs. Allen (to her husband) Why was there a bother about David Wil- liams in January, 1916?—I spoke to you about him and you went to fetch him. You said he had a heading in Aberaman and was earning good money. Mrs. Allen: Didn't you send to fetch me when I was in the Church Mission Coffee Supper?-—No. Mrs. Ann Davies, 12 Gaùlys Street, a certified midwife, said she was called on March 15th to attend to Mrs. Allen, who was delivered of a female child. It was a fully-developed child. Harriet Allen, 10 Banks Street, said she met her son when he came home from hospital, and he was confined to the house for several days, and after- wards was only able to get about with the aid of a stick. He had lived with her (witness) ever since. Mrs. Elizabeth Strickland, sister ot Chas. Allen, gave similar evidence. Miss B. Roberts deposed to seeing Mrs Allen in the company of David Wil- liams in October, 1916, at 10.30 p.m. They were talking in a. doorway. Wm. Thomas, 7 Cwm Place, a dis- charged soldier, said that when Mrs. Allen blackguarded her husband in the street on July 7th, she said You keep your own two children and he (Williams) will keep this one." Mrs. Allen, the defendant, went into the witness-box and said she met her husband in the Green Dragon at the end of June, 1916. He gave her boy a few coppers. Intimacy took place that evening and several times subsequently. Mrs. Allen had no witnesses and the Bench were satisfied that the husband was not and could not be the father of the child. Therefore the wife had been guilty of adultery during his ab- sence, and the maintenance order would be discharged.

Dogs. Wm. Jones, Cardiff St., Aberdare, ki t'ping unlicensed dog, 7s. 6d. P.S. Francombe proved. P.C. Edwards, Hirwain, preferred a similar charge against Thos. Edwards, who was fined 7s. 6d.; and Richard Buckley, Hirwain, who was fined 2s. 6d. for not having a name and address on his dog's collar.

Alleged Theft of Letter. Thos. Flavell, Mountain Ash, was brought up on a charge of stealing a registered letter containing a treasury note and an Army Separation paper, the property of Henrietta Kettle, on or about the 28th of March. Mrs. Kettle, who belongs to a. the- atrical company, said that her sister, who lived in England, was supposed to be present, but she had written to her stating she could not come. Flavell said he signed for the regis- tered letter and re-posted it on to Mrs. Kettle. The case was adjourned for a week to obtain the presence of Mrs. Kettle's sister.

Bad Language. Mrs. Margaret Lloyd, 5 Davis Row, Hirwain, an elderly woman, was sum- moned by Mrs. Blodwen Walters, a neighbour, for indecent language. Mr W. Thomas, who appeared for complain- ant, said she was the wife of a soldier, and the language used by defendant was really slanderous. Mr. Walters gave evidence and pro- duced a sample (handed to the Bench) of the language used by Mrs. Lloyd. Mrs. Lloyd had come to her house on Friday, March 13th, to use the lan- guage. Cissie Preece, 27 Wind Street, Hir- wain, and Elizabeth Walters (sister) gave evidence, and the Bench ordered Mrs. Lloyd to pay 20s. or go to prison for 11 days. Defendant: I'll take the 11 days.

Mr. William Davies, J.P., was the chair- man. NATIONAL SERVICE. On Thurs- day evening last, at Ebenezer Chapel, Pontneatlivaughan, Professor Joseph Jones, of Brecon, explained the National Service Scheme. The chair was occupied by Mr. Hogben. Several questions were asked and answered bv Mr. Jones. MINISTERIAL. Mr. David Venallt Price, B.A., Cwmgwrach, has received a call to the pastorate of the churches of Libanus and Cwmgamlas, Breconshire. He is the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Price, of Cwmgwrach. He has been a member of Siloh Church from childhood, and is a promising young preacher. PREACHING SERVICES were held on Sunday and Monday evening at Addoldy, when the Rev. D. Lloyd Mor- gan, D.D., PontmorJais, officiated. The Rev. Aneurin Davies conducted the ser- vices. On Sunday, evening the choir rendered the anthem, "Am fod fy 1esu 'n fyw." The precentor was Mr. Samuel Weaver. Megan Nedd was the organist. SMOKING CONCERT. On Monday evening, at the Crown Hotel, a concert was given to soldiers home from the front—Gunner John Kirby, R.G.A.. and Private John Rees, R.W.I1. The chair was taken by Mr. Harry Davies. Mr. LIew Evans was the accompanist. Solos, etc., were given by Messrs. Isaac Mor- gan, Walter Webber, Joseph Leonard, Matthew Webber, William Evans, Fred Atkins, John Davies, William Berry, Charles Hamer, Fred Sandry, and David Jones. The soldiers were pre- sented with a cheque each. Mr. Bert Taylor was the secretary. CONCERT. On Wednesday evening, at the Old Bethania Chapel, by the English Branch a welcome concert was given to Private W. Norton, South Wales Borderers. The chair was taken bv Mr. Ben Jones. Mr. Richard Jones is the superintendent, and Mr. Arthur Walters the secretary. OBITUARY. Mr. Jacob Jones, 3 Oddfellows Row, passed away on Sun- day morning week at the age of 83 years. He was a faithful deacon of Addoldy Church, and was one of the oldest. mem- bers. He leaves an aged widow and a nephew. On Wednesday the interment took place at Addoldy Churchyard, when the Revs. Aneurin Davies, Albert Evans, T. C. Harries, Gwilym Higgs, and D. Glannedd Williams officiated. The choir sang several hymns, the conductor being Mr. Samuel Weaver. The bride, who was given away bv her father, wore a beautiful gown of white crepe de chene, draped with lace. Her embroidered tulle veil was fastened beneath a chanlet of orange flowers. She looked charming in a gown of blue crepe de chene, with hat to match, and carried a bouquet of pink carnations and white heather. Of the four national prizes given by the Order of the Sons of Temperance to its mem- bers for introducing the largest number of new members throughout the United Kingdom, three of the winners were: tisses Sarah Ann Harris and Beatrice Bitshop and Osmond Evans, of the local lodge. SEND-OFF. On Thursday evening. at the Alason's Arms, the friends of Rifleman Edwin Owen, Rifle Brigade, of York Street, Godreaman, assembled to present him with a purse of money. Air. David Ashford presided. Rifleman Owen, who joined at the outbreak of ¡ war, was employed at the Gas Works. He has been in Egypt and Salonika. The gift was handed over by Mrs. Evans, the hostess.
