Williams' Choir of Girls fiang "High are the billows." The Rev. T. M. Jeffreys, pastor, preached from Luke 24, 50, on the words, "And he led them out as far as Bethany," or "in sight of Bethany." Christ led his disciples prifllr to his final departure to within view of his home, for such was Bethany to him. This was the new deiith-goiiig home, which contrasted strikingly with the old death-the agonising death on the cross. The dis- ciples would not have come in sight of Bethany were it not for the guidance of the resurrected Lord. Bethany, in view of home, was always accessible to us in the company of Christ. If with Christ we climbed the hill towards Beth- any, the scene of the vision, we would return to the city filled with new hope and inspiration for the new life. CAEMEL (B.). The Rev. G. J. Harris, Skewen, was the preacher at Carmel on Sunday. In the morning he addressed the children on the words in Acts 24. 16, giving an appropriate ad- dress on "Conscience." Mr. Harris preached from Matt. 16. 18. The burden of his message was that the church was an end and not means to an end. To- day an appropriate inscription on many a church would be "This building exists for the benefit of those inside," whereas it should be "This building exists for the benefit of those outside." The great idea of God was not to make the church a domineering authority, like the Roman church, but a personality, a Jesus. Jesus wanted us to be the Christ of God to the world of to-day just as he was the Christ of God to the world of yesterday. The tragedy of to-day was not that we were not winning the war, but that Jesus was not winning his way into our affections.
