T. Evans, and Mr William George, Abercwmboi; Messrs Willie and Edgar Morgan, Maes- teg, cousins PURITY CAMPAIGN.— On Sunday afternoon a joi-it meeting of Bethesda. (B.) and Bethlehem (Cong.) Churches was held at Bethlehem in connection with the Purity Campaign of the Free Churches. The Chairman was Mr Dait Isaac. Mr Gabriel Morgan opened the meeting in prayer. Mr W. R. Morgan gave an address in which he deplored the prevalence of indecent language in the district Filthy language was used by children who were members of the Band of Hope and Sunday School. Some parents appeared to be amused rather than shocked by the profanity of their ohildren. The secretary, Mr Johm Evans, dealt with the question, should total abstinence be a condition of mem- bership in the Churches ? He took the affirmative view. He, however, contend- ed that there were in our churches greater evils than even intemperance. H would not say that the home of every temperate person was a paradise. Non-fermented wine ought to be on all communion tables. One judge had said that if the drink were abolished the doors of the Divorce Courts could be closed. Lord Coleridge had remarked that nearly 50 per cent, of the crime in our land was caused by drink. There was a very strong case for making total abstinence a condition of church mem- bership. The Revs. J. B. Davies and M. Jenkins addressed the meeting on "Good behaviour in the house of God" and "The Sanctity of the Sabbath."

Did anybody see Bill Newport and Curtain dancing a light fantastic Pi The long and short of it. A certain lodger swore that his land- ladv had put wheels on the legs of his bedstead. I suppose if he wanted to oil those wheels it would be "castor" oil. Jack Shea wanted a trip in the U Airy- plane" and didn't mind being killed. "because his name would be in the J--a der. Scraps.
Scraps. BY THE SCRIBE." Now the cry is not "Early Closing" or Early Shopping," but Early holi- days." I notice that the G.W.R. Co. are doing all .in their power to facili- tate this highly desired object. Educa- tion Authorities and teachers can do a lot to abolish the August holiday rush. If the teachers take their holidays earl- ier the children will, and the parents also. And all the people-railway com- panies, hotel and boarding house keepers, and all concerned in the great holiday problem—will say Amen." I notice that the Aberdare Education Authority are going to move in the matter next year. They believe in hastening slowly and breaking gently the news of pro- posed reform. So they give a year's notice. Addresses to children at Sunday morn- ing services are getting popular. They are alright except when they substitute the sermon. When feeding the spiritual babes with the milk of the Word the fare of the adults should not be forgot- ten. It is not pleasant occupation for a hungry man to look on at a lot of children feeding. A "kill that fly" campaign has been decided on by the St. Helens, Lanca- shire, Healtlj, Committee, and operations will be conducted by the school children of the town during the summer. The mayor has offered to give a prize to the most successful school, and probably weekly prizes wil also be given. What a splendid object lesson on cruelty to animals! Frank Henry March Lenn, the six- teen-year-old son of a fleit paymaster, died from an injury to his left hand re- ceived while stopping a fast ball at a Christ Hospital (Horsham) cricket match. At the inquest, when the ver- dict of Accidental death" was return- ed, death was attributed to blood-poi- soning. The blow caused the growth of bacillus, already present in the body. The Aberdare District Council still al- low cricket to be played in the Public Park, althougji they prohibited football. Yet the cricket ball is the more danger- ous to players and spectators. I have been informed that on a recent Sunday at a Sunday School quarterly meeting at Aber- aman a comic song was sung. Well I always thought the line of demar- cation between sacred and secular was very sharply drawn at Aberaman. That Welsh drama and its infidelity again.
