Skittles. ABERAMAN V MOUNTAIN ASH. Teams representing the above Baud Clubs met at the New Park Institute. Cardiff, in the semi-final of the South Wales Club Tournament. An interest- ing and close game resulted in the Mount Boys being knocked from the competition by six points. Full wore appended:—Aberaman: T. Probert, 27; C. Morris, 24; R. Lewis, 19; J. Gay, 19; W. ABERCWMBOI. DEATH. Little Christmas Woods passed away at the early age of ten years. He was brought up by his grand- mother, Mrs Margaret Evans, 100 John Street. Eighteen months ago his father was buried at Scranton, U.S.A. FOUND DEAD. On Wednesday morning Mrs James, wife of Mr Evan James. William Street, was found dead in bed by her husband when he re- turned from work at 6 a.m. Dr Horgan was called in, and pronounced life ex- tinct. „ BETHESDA (B.). Mr Jenkin Lewis, Kingsbury Place, was the lan- ternist. SOAR M.I.S. — An interesting debate took place on Tuesday evening on Should crimes be advertised through the press?" Mr John Evans took the affirmative side, and Mr Howell Owen the negative. The following took part in the discussion:—Rev. W. D. Morris, Messrs Thomas Lloyd, Morgan Wil- liams, William Henry Davies, Timothy Daniel, W. O. Lloyd, Edward Daniel, Evan Evans, Joseph Thomas, William Jones. Mr Evan Evans was chairman. AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHIC SO- CIETY. The making of lantern slides, a constant source of trouble to many, was the subject demonstrated at the above society last Wednesday evening. Mr A. Riddiford was responsible for the practical work, and gave a very in- teresting shew. Various methods, by contact, by magnesium ribbon, and by using the rays from the enlarging lantern were all shown. A hearty vote of thanks was awarded the demonstra- tor. The next lecture will be Through Cornwall with a Reflex," given by Mr W. Owen, and illustrated by original lantern slides.

On Thurs- day last a fatal accident occurred to Ethel Linda Llewelyn, the three-year- old daughter of Mr and Mrs H. E. Llewellyn, 80, Brook Street. It appeal's that she stepped backwards, and fell into a pan of boiling water. She suc- cumbed on Friday iiiorhing after suffer- ing terrible pains. The interment took place on Tuesday at the Aberdaxe Cemetery. Mr John Pugh, Aberdare, officiated. The following were the mourners:—Father; Messrs Alfred and William Llewelyn, and Richard -tones. The gift took the form of a silver brush and comb tray and silver trinket box, and was handed over on behalf of the teach- ers by Miss A. Morgan, headmistress, who made a. very appropriate speech. C;y tJJWDOlnO. On Friday even- ing at the Parish Room a meeting of the f'ymrodorion was presided over by Mr W. Lthr Williams. M.A., of the County School. Councillor W. Millar gave a very able and interesting review of the early history of Mountain Ash and the adjoining' localities, tracing the de- velopment of these places from the eleventh century to the commencement of the iron age," viz., the inaugura- tion of the local iron industry. Mr Millar promised to continue at some future date the history of the Mount down to the present day. The chair- man gave a masterly address on Ceiriog, and cited extensively from some of the poet"- best works. The Cymrodorion present greatly appreciated the two addresses. On the proposition of the Rev. R. S. Rogers, B.A., seconded by the lia-v. J. Phillips, they were cordially thanked for their services. At the next meeting the Rev. J. An interesting presentation to Mr. and Mrs. Ishmael Harris, who lately left this town, took place at Bethania Hall last Monday r evening. The Rev. John Phillips pre- sided. The event was to mark the ap- preciation felt by the friends of Be- thania Sunday School for the splendid services rendered to the school by Mr. Harris and his family. A handsome gold brooch was presented by Mrs. Jones, Senny Cottage, to Mrs. Harris. Air. Morgan Davies, in a few well- chosen words, presented Mr. Harris with a beautiful gold-mounted fountain pen. The an- nual visitation services of the Calvin- istic Alethodists were held on Tuesday evening at the Forward Alovement Hall and at the Welsli C.M. Chapel. The Rev. J. T. MR. LLOYD CEORCE AND MOUNTAIN ASH. It is stated that the Chancellor of the Exchequer intends opening his Land Campaign at Mountain Ash, and that he will there make an important pro- nouncement. Possibly Mountain Ash has been selected because he failed to fulfil a promised engagement there some months ago.

YNYSYBWL CO-OPERATIVE SOCI ETY. The series of quarterly meetings in connection with the above Society for the 94th quarter were held at the var- ious branches during the past week. The meeting for the Coedponmaen and Treforest Branches was held at the Y.M.C.A. Buildings, Pontypridd, on I eb. 18th. The chair was occupied by Mr Edwin Williams, the president, who was supported by the Secretary, Mr. David Davies, and the members of the committee. After the balance sheet was gone through in detail, its adoption was moved by the chairman, and seconded by Mr Edward Lewis. The following were the chief points in the committee's report :-The sales for the past 13 weeks were CI5,162 lis. 4d., re- presenting a net increase on the prev- ious year of X113 3s. lAd. After allow- ing for management expenses, depreci- ation of buildings and fixtures, interest on share and loan capital, collective life assurance at the rate of lid. per £ on sales. C5(.! grant to the Reserve Fund, and a grant towards educational pur- poses, there remained for disposal a profit of £ 1,(110 17s. 4d., which was to b.1 divided amongst the members at the rate of 2s. 2d. in the £ on purchases, and Is. Id. in the £ to non-members. The number of members now stands at 1,41U, and the total share capital is £ 11,997 16s. IOtd. The purchases 2 from co-operative sources amounted to £ 7,329, out of a total of 1:12,250. Dur- ing the quarter 8 claims were paid under the Collective Life Assurance scheme, amounting to L64 10s. 2d, making a total of 70 claims, amounting to £ 385 3s. Sd., paid since the adoption of the scheme in March. 1908. The present officers of Society are: General manager, fr. R. M. Mason; secretary, Mr. David Davies; branch managers, Alessrs. Roderick AVilliams, Abercynon; NV. Parkes, Cilfynydd; O. R. Jones, Coedpenmaen, and D. Johns, Treforest. The total assets of the Society at the quarter end amounted to £ 21,170 13s. 10,ti.-inAsmtich as the retiring president, Mr. Edwin Williams, Ynysy- bwl, did not seek re-election, it was unanimously resolved at each of the meetings that Mr. William Watkins, New Road, Ynysybwl, should be the president for the ensuing year. The vacancy on the committee at Cocdpen- maen was filled by the re-election or Mr T. Pt)well.-The Cilfynydd meeting was held at Beulah Vestry the followmg night, when the customary resolutions were put to the meeting and carried without any dissentient. The Aber- cynon meeting was held at the Work- men's Institute on Friday evening, Feb. 21st. In addition to the adoption of the balance sheet and the report of the Education Committee, etc., a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the retir- ing president and the committee for their services. An election for commit- tee-men took place, the successful can- didates being Alessrs. John Rees Mor- gan and Edward Ambrose.-The last of the meetings was held at Ynysybwl on Saturday evening, Feb. 22nd. Tnree candidates were nominated for the va- cancy on the committee, and Air. Evan Davies was declared elected, the next highest being Air. David Thomas Roberts. The following were also elect- ed on the local propaganda committee: Al essrs. John Lloyd, Rees Davies, Dd, Thos. Roberts, Albert Gullick, Thomas Davies. Abel Morgan, and Thomas Wright. Felicitous speeches wore made in reference to the president's faithful services to the Society for a number of years past. and it was decid- ed that they should .place on record their appreciation of such services.

MOUNTAIN ASH MEDICAL DEAD- LOCK. There has been no definite move made by either side in the medical deadlock at the Alount. Both sides are going on in their own way, and matters now seem in the position of a fight to a fin- ish. The question seems likely to de- velop into one of which side is the stronger, and the one which holds the strongest, hand will win. It is said now that the doctors are taking their own line and are attending patients on pre- cisely the same terms as the AVork men's Committee have offered, but the com- mittee themselves are not recognised. The medical men have had small tickets printed containing the following declar- ation "1 hereby give notice that I ob- ject to a poundage to be deducted from my wages for the Medical Committee. Signed It is said that about 3,000 have been printed and distributed at the Surger- ies, but that only a small percentage have been returned to the office, where their recipients were instructed to take them. The Medical Committee have had several replies to their advertisement for locum tenens, but nothing definite will be done until the sub-committee re- ports to the general committee, which will meet in a day or two. The inten- tion is to appoint two doctors, one being stationed at Miskin and the other a. Penrhiwceiber. In accordance with the decision of the men's meeting, sub- scriptions have been collected to cover present liabilities, and so far the re- sponse has been very satisfactory.

THE SECOND LIBERAL CANDIDATE Two fresh names are now put for- ward in connection with the decision of the Liberal Federation to run a second candidate for the Merthyr and Aberdare Boroughs. They are Mr. Robert Mond, brother to Mr. Alfred Mond, M.P., and the Rev. J. Morgan Gibbon, London. •
