-----_---Penrhiwceiber Potions.
Penrhiwceiber Potions. Whilst the fire brigade were at the station on Wednesday evening of last week, an alarm was received that Messrs Morris and Sons' grocery stores was on fire. Eight of the brigade, together with the Lieutenant, T. J. Clancy, rushed off but found out immediately that it was a false alarm. There are many enquiries as to the reason of Hermon'6 non-appearance in the chapel walk this year. The same may be said of Penuel. I don't remem- ber if Penuel joined last year, but I know Hermon did, and it looked rather bad not to show a united front at least once a year. The I.L.Peers were not in great force the other evening when Councillor E. Stonelake came to address them. It was a pity that such an excellent speech was wasted on such a meagre audience. Why, even the Latter Day Saints would work up more enthusiasm than that. During the hot weather the river has been patronized by bathers, young and old. In reference to the latter, I hear of many cases of flagrant indecency. This should not be allowed, especially opposite those houses which face the river. If any person is unconvinced of the need of public baths at Penrhiwceiber, L let him go down to the banks of the Cynon on one of these hot days, and see the hundreds plnnging into the ebony stream for want of a better place. stream for want of a better place. rs=======^rmm—

I Abercynon Notes. The Buffs are still going ahead here. I was quite surprised to see the large number of folks wending their footsteps towards Spion Kop the other day. I wondered what guns were going to be captured. When I enquired 11 it was the opening of the new Buff Lodge. The new host is quite a genial sort of person. He gave the ancient Order a down-right hearty welcome. The Buffs have now found a congenial place to dwell, and their new domicile is all that can be de- sired. I hear very little talk about the Gruardian Election in these quarters. What is the matter ? Are we going to be behind again? ——— My word! things are looking up. 1 am more than surprised to see that the street in front of the Hall is at last u actually in the hands of the contractor.
