TORTURING DISFIGURING 1 # "+- Skin, Scalp and Blood Humours Speedily Cured by" Caticura Soap, Ointment and Pills When the Best Physicians and All Else Fail. The agonizing itching and burning of the skin, as in eczema; the frightful scaling, as in psoriasis; the loss of hair and crusting of the scalp, as in scalled head; the facial disfigurements, as in pimples and ringworm; the awful suf- fering of infants, and anxiety of worn- Out parents, as in milk crust, tetter and salt rheum,— all demand a remedy of almost superhuman virtues to success- fully cope with them. That Cuticura Soap, Ointment and Pills are such stands proven beyond all doubt. No statement is made regarding them that is not justified by the strongest evi- dence. The purity and sweetness, the power to afford immediate relief, the certainty of speedy and permanent cure, the absolute safety and great economy have made them the standard skin cures, blood purifiers and.humour remedies of the civilized world. t Bathe the affected parts with hot water and Cuticura Soap, to cleanse the surface of crusts and scales, and soften the thickened cuticle. Dry, without hard rubbing, and apply Cuticura Oint- ment freely, to allay itching, irritation and inflammation, and soothe and heal, and, lastly, take the Cuticura Resolvent Pills, to cool and cleanse the blood. This complete treatment, costing but 4". 9d., affords instant relief, per- mits rest and sleep in the severest forms of eczema and other itching, burning and scaly humours of the skin, scalp and blood, and points to a speedy, permanent and economical cure when all other remedies and the best physi- cians fail.
THE LLAMRWST SENSATION.
THE LLAMRWST SEN- SATION. It had been intended on Monday at the Uanrwst Police Court, to charge John R. Jones, of Scotland street, Llanrwst, who, on Thursday last, seriously assaulted his wife, and afterwards stabbed himself with a sort of iron skewer, with attempted murder and attempted suicide, but it was found that Jones, who is in the workhouse hospital, was far too ill to be moved, and the case was transferred from the list. Though the wound Jones inflicted upon himself is a slight one, the skewer, aimed at the heart, having been intercepted by a rib, his condition is regarded as serious, and it is even thought he may never leave the hospital again. A groundless jealousy is stated to have led to Jones's actions. He had previously suffered from a. serious illness. Mrs Jones is stated to be pro- gressing favourably.

Rees, resigned, as auditor to the society.
CHARGE OF STEALING CATTLE.t
CHARGE OF STEALING CATTLE. t At a special police court at Carnarvon on Wednesday, before the Mayor (Mr W. G. Thomas), Messrs J. R. Pritchard, Richard Thomas, and J. P. Gregory, David Lewis, cattleman; Griffith Evans, farmer, cae Mawr, near Carnarvon; and Edward Evans, his son, were charged with stealing cattle from Glan Seiont, Carnarvon. Early on Fri- day morning Lewis walked the cattle, five in number, from Carnarvon to Fourcrosses, near Pwllheli, where a. fair was held, and sold them to a Mr Evan Jones, Abergele. The latter became suspicious, and asked Lewis where the cattle came from. The defendant gave the name of a certain farm in the neigh- bourhood of Waenfawr. GIAIBLET ROCK MIDGETS PORTRAITS.…
GIAIBLET ROCK MIDGETS PORTRAITS. V. His name is very familiar. He has a name I by which nobody else in the town is called. He has worked himself up to an influential position in life, and is a great man with the Calvinistic Methodists, with whom lie holds very important offices. Though he speaks in public, he cannot be said to be endowed with the gift of speech. There is some hesitancy or nervousness in his manner that militates against 'him as a speaker. But he can speak sense, and gives one the impression that he is a very painstaking and conscientious man. It may be said that he is more of an office worker and a committee man than a public speaker. He did some splendid work in con- nection with the Bottwnog and Pwllheli County Schools. He is a supporter of the temperance cause, And years ago he was secretary of a temperance society. Not long ago he was an active member of the Town Council. Another local body now receives the benefit of his advice and service.

-1. 8 VALLEY DISTRICT COUNCIL. The ordinary meeting was held on Tuesday, Mr J. N. Thomas prosidilig.-Tlie Clerk read a legal opinion on the matter of the sea wall at Rhoscolyn. This confirmed the Clerk's opinion as to the liability of the Council. The Surveyor was instructed to see to the matter at on.-e. The Sectional Committee would meet him on the spot, and would be given power to act. The Clerk was in- structed to write to Mr Roberts, Cefn Coch, stating that the Council required stones for building the sea wall, as it was a case of emergency. FATAL ACCIDENT AT GLYNRHONWY…
FATAL ACCIDENT AT GLYNRHONWY QUARRY. On Friday Mr A. Bodvel-Roberts (deputy coroner) held an inquest at. Llanberis touching the death of Robert Williams, 21 years of age (son of Mr T. J. Willia.ms, Warden street, Llanberis), who met with an accident at the Glynrhonwy Quarry on the previous Wednes- day.—Evidence was given by W. Humphreys, Waenfawr, a. slate loader at the Glynrhonwy Quarry. He said the deceased worked as a stoker on a locomotive, and on the morning of the 18th inst. he saw him falling on his head in front of the engine, which was in motion. R. Parry, Glyn Peris, Llanrug, locomotive driver in the Glynrhonwy Quarry, said that the deceased was employed on the same engine as him. The deceased found that the points on the railway were wrong, and witness went down to turn them. When he was returning he found the deceased under the engine; and when he was extricated life was found to be extinct.-Answering Mr G. J. Williams, Inspector of Mines, witness said that it was the duty of the stoker to turn the points. There was an understanding between him and the deceased with reference to the turning of the points. He knew of the quarry rules that no driver or stoker was aJlowed to I jump off the engine when in motion. They used to step the engine when they wanted to turn the points, but they did not do so that day. The jury returned a verdict to the effect that the deceased was killed by accidentally falling in front of the quarry engine.
INFLUENZA INCREASING.
INFLUENZA INCREASING. The Influenza Epidemic is again spreading over the Country. The visitation is of a very prostrating nature, and the disease is cer- tainly on the increase. The origin of the disease or rather the circumstances which bring it about is as much a mystery as ever. You cannot trifle with Influenza. It under- mines the Nervous System to a greater ex- tent than almost any other disease, and ft is Pneumonia that kills, and Pneumonia strikes the man wno imagines be has only a mild form cf Influenza, and can go about the street just as usual. It can hardly be doubted that the prevalence of Chest and Lung Com- plaints must be ascribed to the Baneful in- fluence of Influenza, whose after-effects so I frequently take this form. It was a bad da.y for this Country when this malignant scourge first visited our shores. Year after year it has never since failed to revive at its due time, and to extort its tribute oi Suman life. Having observed its ravages, and its dreadful effects upon the constitution on the occasion of its former visits, we cannot but regard its recurrence with much fear, as a great many nave not yet, if they ever will, regain their former health. As a Preventa- tive, we know of nothing equal to Gwilyjn Evans' Quinine Bitters. A few strong doses taken in time have often proved effectual in warding off attacks of this Malady, and always succeed in mitigating their severity when a patient is under their influence. Do you suffer from Chills, alternating with Sud- den Flushes, Severe Headache, accompanied by difficulty of breathing, and symptoms of Catarrh, Pains in the Chest, under and between the Shoulders and a stiffness and soreness of the Muscles, Loss of Appetite and Nervousness? If you suffer from any of I these symptoms, know that they are the forerunners of Influenza and it behoves you to resort at once to a course of Gwilym Evans' Qunine Bitters. By common con- sent Patients everywhere admit that they feel more depressed and miserable after an attack of Influenza than while under ita influence, and more than they feel after an attack of any other illness. The best way to banish these miserable feelings is to take Gwilym ) Evans' Quinine Bitters, The Vegetable Tonic. We can strongly and! confidently recommend tIllS Preparation, as it has treated severe cases of Influenza, Heavy Oolds, Extreme Weakness, and Langour, with greater success than any other known Remedy. We may also add that as a Remedy for Indigestion, Sleeplessness, Low Spirits, Nervousness, and Loss of Appetite, Gwilym Evans' Quinine Bitters stands unequalled. It is sold in bottles 2s. 9d and 4s 6d, by all Chemists and Patent Medicine Vendors, or sent direct, carriage free, for the above prices, by the Sole Proprietors: Quinine Bitters Manufac- turing Company, Limited, Llanelly, South I Wales. t. FROM MOELWYN TO GARN FADRYN. Thef rector of Llanfihangelf-Traethau complains that the children attend Llandecwyn school very irregularly. When the attendance officer makes his report on the matter interesting developments are expected.. The Portmadoc Conservatives are now housed in very commodious premises. Their president (Mr R. M. Greaves) has presented the club with a billiard table, &c. < < < It is intended to build several houses at Wernydd, Croesor, for the quarrmen and others. Already the prospective -village has been called "Kellowtown." < < < < Attention is once more drawn to the insanitary state of some houses in Lleyn. A stranger visiting a small farm house was asked by the wife to excuse the bad smell there. "The walls are cracked and the smell from the pigsty, which is at the gable end of the house, comes in. It is not so bad to-day as it has been." < There are houses whose floors are simply the bare earth. In these houses the rafters are rotten, the walls are damp and mouldy, the rain comes in through the roof, and the windows will neither keep the rain nor the wind. The local sanitary authority is blamed for neglecting to put the law in motion against the owners of all these insanitary dwellings. < < One of the Portdinlleyn lifeboat crew who went out last December during the terrific storm when a large foreign ship foundered with all hands off iSardsey Island, has put his experiences in a string of verses most original as to form and metre. He describes the departure of the boat from Portdinlleyn, with full comple- ment of crew, and "one man extra—Dr Hughes." 41 Miss May Hughes, the promising con- tralto singer from Pwllheli, is singing in the provinces and is being received every- where with very great favour. The reports which have appeared in the English pro- vincial newspapers have been most flatter- ing. < < The D-olbenmaen Parish Council have at last signed the necessary papers in order to make a burial ground at Prenteg. The ground is a little above Porthtreuddyn. Hitherto burials have had to take place at Dolbenmaen, Penmorfa, Beddgelert, or Portmadoc, which meant very heavy ex- penses. A setts quarry is to be opened at Careg Hylldrem, Llanfrothen. The Croesor and Park Quarries Company will work it. One of the arches of Beddgelert bridge appeared to give way under the heavy traffic that recently passed over it. Mr D. M. Roberts, contractor, Pentre'rfelin, was consulted and he has now put sup- ports so that the bridge is perfectly safe. < Mr Ellis W. Davies, secretary of the Eifion Liberal Association, intends to start a Liberal Club at Beddgelert. < < There is a strong feeling at Beddgelert against the course taken by Mr E. it. Owen when he voted against the majority re- port on the Bethesda dispute. • • • • Mr J. W Wyatt, Bryngwynant, Bedd- gelert, accompanied by Mtr Ebenezer G. Jones, Gwynant, climbed Clogwyn-y-Per- son, from Cwm Glas side, up to Crib y Ddistyll. They had to use a rope. After- wards they went along the edge to the top of Snowdon and down to Cwmllan. No local mountain climber has been able so far to accomplish what Mr Wyatt and Mr I Jones have done. < < < The workmen employed at the Snowdon Copper Mine held at their "barracks," last week, a miscellaneous meeting, Mr Evan Williams, Tanymarion, in the chair. Addresses, songs, and recitations were given by Messrs Morris Pierce, Beddgelert; John Williams, Gwynant; Humphrey Breese, Richard Humphreys, R. S. Hugues, W. Pierce, and Mr Evan Williams's party. The mine is the highest in Wales. < Mr W. Owen, son of Mr Edward Owerx, Rliyd-ddu, gave a lecture at Nanmor, on Saturday, on "America," Carneddog in the chair. « The C.M. church at Talsarnau has just issued its annual financial statement. Number of hearers, 360; number of mem- bers, 210; collections, C360. The number of anglers who have joined the Glaslyn Board of Conservators is now about 40. • » ♦ We are informed that another minister besides the Rev Thomas Owen is likely to leave Portmadoc shortly for another pastorate. < » < Plenvdd was in several places in Mer- ionethshire last week lecturing on "The hidden characters in the New Testament," and on temperance. < < Mr W. Prys Williams, Penygroes House, Fourcrosses, has qualified as master mariner. < The Free Churches, Festiniog, are co- operating for the purpose of establishing in the district temperance houses where also young men and others may have re creation in the form of innocent games. < < < There will be prayer meetings in' all the chapels at Festiniog during the first week in March. The Y.M.A., Festiniog, intend to hold their forthcoming eisteddfod in a large marquee, capable of seating 6000 persons. ,v Mr R. O. Davies, solicitor, Festiniog, was married in London, last. week, to Miss Isabella Davies, daughter of Mr W. E. Davies, London, and a niece of the late Rev Dr W. Davies (W.), Bangor. The bridegroom is a son of the Rev D. E. Davies. Carnarvon, and a brother of Mr Evan R. Davies, Town Cter-, Pwllheli. < < A boy, aged 11 years, was caught ir the act of stealing monev from a drawer in the "Rhedegvdd" Office, Festiniog. The magistrates severely cautioned him, and let him off.
