Notwithstanding the most strenuous exertions on the part of those connected with its manage- ment jr) make it financially as successful as it was admitvd t., he in every other point of view, the Com- mittee failed and as they failed in a cause which must commend itself to all lovers of Art, as well as to those who wish to elevate and improve the taste f the people, it has been determined to make a public urepeal for the liquidation of the amount still owing- after deducting the large sums pro- mised by the Duke of Westminster (2()00) and by Mr Cornwallis West ( £ 500)—which is in round numbers, JEmOO. About £;300 of this has, however, been promised; and it IS confidently expected that the remainder will soon be raised in the different localities from i which contributions to'the Exhibition were rc- oeived.
