The promoters are all shipowners, and have taken up large number of shaies, a further large portion being reserved for othl r shipowners. This will of course guarantee at once an extensive and profitable business and this added to the satisfactory trade carried on by Messrs Milvain and SOil, puts the success of the company an abso- lute ceitainty, there being nothing speculative in the business. The undertaking in this respect ditfers entirely from many limited liability companies advertised. The large expenditure of shipowners in ship stores is well known, and the fact that many of the shareholders will be ship- owners—to whom and to others likely to be customers the shares are to be offered-makes the company feel confident in anticipating satis- factory dividends. The turn over of the capital many times in a year will also enable the com- pany, notwithstanding the competition of other lio •lses, to realise a handsome profit. So soon as I the coinpany is formed, premises are to be taken at Cardiff, and a complete stock kept there.

THE TIN TRADE,
THE TIN TRADE, A meeting of the workmen's delegates was held at Swansea on Saturday, when it was resolved to offer the masters two days' work free, or refer the dispute to arbitration. This offer, we understand, will be given to the masters on Monday morning. At a meeting of delegates held at Swansea, on Saturday, it was unanimously agreed to offer each employer interested in the dispute of tin forges two turns wages for a settlement, and that a meeting be convened by circular (to be held at the same place), when a delegate from each de- partment at each works in Monmouthshire and South Wales is invited to attend. The subject for discussion will be the best means of further reducing the production of tin plates. It was re- ported that while a great number of works and mills were now lying idle, others took advantage of driving by working six hours' shifts. &c. D
TO THE EDITOR.
TO THE EDITOR. SlK,—In your impresaion of this date I notice two letters respectively signed Roller" and "Tin," bearing upon over-production in] the tin- plate trade, which has been so long unreniunera- tive. The writers v. ould materially reduce the make of each mill in order to bring matters into a more healthy state, and within the demand limits Perhaps those writers will be able to call to minci ho A that for some nine months in 1879 theAssocia- tion of Tin-plate Makers only opened their mills four days a week, and for some time the outside limit was 30 boxes per turn of eight hours. Now what was the result? Building of new works in every direction, so as to be ready for the good times which they believed were in store for them by the time they would be able to start. Other manufacturers either erected additional mills or materially strengthened their engine power. The same process would be continued if all the works were to be open for but three days a week. Alen are always ready to go to new works, so DO diffi- culty would be experienced on that head. A new work is now being erected at Cwmamman by, I understand, the vicar of the parish and other friends, and it is likely others are in contempla. tion. If no more works or additions were made, doubtless it might regulate the market a little by reducing the working days to four, but as for the make per mill, that would Lardly be fair, owing to the powerful engines at some works and the various kind of plates made. At some works the men in 80 hours could turn out 35 boxes comfort- ably, while in others 25 would be as much as they could manage, either from lack of steam- power or, heavier plates. Some makers are making charcoal plates only and most of the heavier class, while others are on coke of the com. monest sort for the American market only. To I fix the quantity to be made by each mill would be only doing a great injustice to many makers, Roller states that the masters were better off when the men made but 30 boxes in 12 hours, Possibly so, but in those days the competition was not so keen as now. That limit for ordinary cokes would never dtwn these times, when the improve- ments in machinery and engine power are on such an expensive scale. To obtain the consent of. every tinplate manufacturer in South Wales, Monmouth, Gloucester, and other parts of Eng- land to reduce their make to a given quantity would be a task too great for any man to accomplish, I am afraid; it therefore seems to me that the only plan to adopt is for each maker to follow the Dent of his own inclina- tion. I note from "Tin's" letter that the Mon- mouthshire makers are paying less for certain size plates than those of Glamorgan, and I believe they pay their puddlers about Is per ton less than the reduced price which the Glamorgan and Carmar. then masters offer, but which they refuse. How the associated masters can compete with Mon. mouth and Gloucester is a puzzle. If 90 mills, as stated by "Roller," are now and have been idle for three months, what will be the result-when they recommence, is a problem deeper to .801ve khao yours, Ac, WE IN TRADE FOR SO YMfiS.

SWANSEA v, SWANSEA WORKING MEN'S CLUB. —This match was played on the ground of the latter club on Saturday, in splendid weather, and in the presence of a large number of spectators. The Swansea Club was not well represented. Messrs J. T. D. Llewelyn, Morris, Walker, and Lidgey would have been valuable acquisitions to an attenuated eleven. Their opponents mustered.in full force, and put on the field a really good team, The field has been greatly improved since last Beason, and the wicket appeared in good condition. Great credit is due to the: hon. secretary, Mr Is I Shaw, for his untiring efforts in bring- ing the general affairs of the club to such a happy consummation. Notwithstanding the long period Quinine has been in use by the Medical Faculty, its renlarkable powers of repairing the loss of strengh caused by disease, decay, prolonged harassing mental worry or overwork, tic., &c., besides its direct qualilles as a febrifuge IInd remedy for complaints of an intermittent character, it is only of quite late years that anything like a due amount of ap. preciatlon has been accorded to it. The combination of Quiniae with Iron presents a Tonic of undoubted efficacy; it may be stated to be the beat of all Tonics, as the powerful virtues of both are consolidated, and their in. dividual characteristics preserved. The princlpal property of the Iron is its chemical action ou the Dlood, which it greatly enriches by increasing the quantity of the red corpuscular matter on which the vital fluid depends for performing 1ts important func. ons. Pepper's Quinine and Iron Tonic, being certified as composed of these important medicines in their due pro. portions, may therefore be relled on ill case3 where a course of strengthening treatment is indicated. MONEY MARKET. l SrECULL Y TELEGRAPHED.] LONDON, SATURDAY EVENING. The Money Market is quieter, now that the demand on Stock Exchange account 13 settled. The enquiry for loans to-day was much less active. Day to day advances were negotiated at 1, to 2 per cent. For discounts the enquiry was light; three months bills being at 1J per cent. 6 On the Stock Exchange business was very quiet. Mexican, Grand Trunk of Canada were most in request, and closed at a further riM. American Railways were strong, but in most other respects the tendency was towards weakness. The majority of English Railways relapsed on realisations. Foreign Bonds at the same time were frequently weaker from a similar cause Russian being 3pecially influenced by disturbances in the' louthern provinces. Consols were unaltered, at 102 to 102k ior delivery, and 102jj to 1021 for the account. Seduced and New Three per Cents., lOOif to took. English railways opened firmly. at a further improvement, the demand beine, liiiefly for heavy lines. A few sales by speculators to secure profit caused k reaction, and prices gave way in yearly every instance. Metropolitan and Metropolitan District, however, were firm throughout. In the American Railway Market there was a further general rise, with a very fair business passing for a Saturday. Eries rose k; do. The feature of the Foreign Market was the continued enquiry for Mexican, which advanced i to g. Foreign Government Securities were quiet. There was some inquiry for Hungarian, at a further advance. Turkish and French were fairly steady. Russian was sold on the re- port of riots in tiie southern district, but recovered somewhat from the lowest points. BARGOED COAL TRADE.
BARGOED COAL TRADE. At the nouse coal collieries in the Deri, Bar. goed, aud Peugam districts the trade is rather dull at some of the pits, and the men are idle a great deal of time. the Messrs Beddoes stopped the Glanddu Colliery on Saturday, as the coal is nearly exhausted in that level, and they are re- moving the tram rails to their pit at Pontlanfraitb, distant between three and four miles, which they have recently purchased, and which they are opening up wi h a view of developing the colliery, so that a great many will find employment there. There is a rumour ot theJGilfach Colliery, now idle through the failure of Messrs Price^and Evans, being restarted shortly by another firm. Further up the Vailey both the coal and coke trade con- tinues good.
