.AGRICULTURE, THE WEATHER, AND THE markets. [prom LAS'T NIGfiT'a MARK-LANE EXPRESS."] The temperature during the past week has presented a cwitracfc to the high summer heat which preceded it. Haymaking has therefore been partly hindered, but the growth of spring corn has been steady, and the wheat which bas been advancing to maturity in as yet uninjured. More animation has, however, been experienced in wheat, t-hrt'cially in the country, prices generally having im- proved one shilling, and in Bome instances two shillings per quarter. Last week's deliveries were only seventeen hundred quarters over those of 1874 indeed, we how from all quarters that Htocka of home produce have be- come vqiy low, so that the markets generally have been poorly supplied. Paris is fifteen pence per sack cheapen for flour, and two shillings per quarter for wheat Most markets, i^ the provinces are unchanged. The rise in Belgium and Holland, too, has been checked, but in Germiany prices hare been steady. New York has fluc- tue*e4 and somewhat receded Complaints of drought come again from southern Russia, wUn firmer price*. Thsit cntical time, |the blooming, will soon arrive in out own oountry, while th»„80(utb: of Franc# in a week will commence putting with the help of the military.

HOUSE OF LORDS.—MONDAY.
HOUSE OF LORDS.—MONDAY. The Lord Chancellor took his seat at 5 o'clock. MR. GLADSTONE AND THE VISIT OF Tll- REVIVALISTS TO ETON. The Marquis of BATH asked the President of tbl governing body of Eton College whether the Provost ot Head-master had given sanction to the holding of revival meeting, at which the Eton boys were to be allowed to attend and, if so, whether the governing body had been consulted on the subject, and what steps they intended to take. He would not enter into a discussion a* to how far these religious meetings might have goo4 in them, but nothing could be more fatal to the go*^ discipline of the school, and nothing could interfere more with the studies or religious feelings of the boys than the attendance at such meetings. Lord LYTTJSLTON reminded the House that the governing body was composed of widely scattered members who could not be brought togethe* upon short notice, and when an emergency therefef" arose it had necessarily to be dealt with by such of tW members as might be on the spot, or was left to tb- authorities of the school. He had heard nothing about this matter till yesterday morning, and he did not know how many of these performances Were to be held. A" he knew for certain was that the first meeting would place to-morrew. at 3 o'clock, in a large tont close by Eton College. By good fortune the governing body would meet on the same day, at 12 o'clock, and the mat- ter would then be brought under their notice. From » correspondence that had been placed in his hands it ap" peared that the Head Master gave no sanction to the meeting, but was unwilling to put any special restriction* upon the boys, so as to prevent them from hearing the two American Revivalists. When he heard after- wards that it was proposed to hold sev. ral meetings, he wrote that it would be impossible for him to allow the boys to attend, but Mr Graham informed him in reply that it was never intended to hold more than the 011" service which, as had been stated in the first instancet would take place on Tuesday, and would probably last an hour. The Earl of MORLEY, as a member of the Governing JpSk'ei corroborated what had been said by the OVERSTONE spoke in strong condemnation the Proposed service, and expressed the hope that the Governing Body would prevent the attendance of the boys on the occasion. The Earl of SHAFTESBURY complained that Bubject was brought under discussion without notice; and Lord LYTTELTON pointed out that any notice would have made the complaint too late. Tr Hu °? SETTLEMENT AND REMOVA^ Upon the motion of the Duke of RICHMOND the* Lordships then proceeded with the orders of the day. Lord HEN NIKE R called attonticn to the law 0 settlement and removal of the poor, and moved for return of the number of orders ot removal from 1869 to March last. The Duke of RICHMOND proposed to give the return for one year, instead ef five, but could not agref with the noble lord's view. Lord LYTTELTON regarded the Laws of Settle- TBeut and Removal as entirely indefensible. motion, amended in accordance with the sugge9* Si7BDnuoet<?TUke of Richmond, was agreed to. rl, REPRESENTATIVE PEERAGE OF SCOTLAl^17 AND IRELAND. In reply to Earl Stanhope, The Earl of ROSEBERY said that with regard to tl1 dimcultaes of the question, and the fact that the Selecj' Committee on the Representative Peerage of Scgtlan^ ana Ireland were not unanimous upon all the points °* tneir report, he did not, as Chairman of the propose bringing forward any motion to give effect tI1 tneir recommendations. REPORTS ON BILLS.. ttmi rePorts amendments to the Mnnicipal ^11, the Bishopric of St. Albans Bill, the Mines Bill, and the General Police and ImprovemeIlt (Scotland) Provisional Order Confirmation Bill, Turnpike Road (South Wales) Bill, and the InteBtet Widows and Children Act Extension Bills were read » third time and passed. ■COMPETITIVE EXAMINATION IN INDIA. Lord STKATHNAIKN moved an address for the oof respondence between the Government of India and India Ofiice as to the effect of the competitive examine" tion, and the present system of education for firAt-c commissions and appointments in India but after ofl intimation xrpm the Duke of Richmond that correspondence was still going on, the motion was Iieg'IA The House adjourned at ten minutes past seven o'clock*
