Y TUDOR WiLLIAMS- X pATENT JJALEAM OP JJONEY IS THE BEST FOR COUGHS, COLDS, AND ALL DISORDERS OF CHEST AND LUNGS, A CERTAIN CUEE! "Oh! dear me. I forgot to give TCDOB WIL- LIAMS' BALSAM OF HONEY to my children before they retired to bed. I am eertain thfIY will COUGH ALL NIGHT WITHOUT IT. There is nothing on tke face of the earth equal to it;, thoroughly up-to-date." Li thia damp and changeable climate Coughs and Colds are almost certain at some time daring the winter to visit every household in the land. It would, therefore, seem only a wise precaution to keep on hand a bottle of L TUDOR WILLIAMS' BALSAM OF HONEY ready for immediate use. Pleasant, toothing, healing, and a splendid tonic, it is certainly without an equal for tke prevention and cure of troublesome coughs and in all thrttat and lung affections. Moreover, it does what no simple coagh remedy will do—it promotes appetite, aids digestion, increases weight, and builds up the health and strength gecarally. It contains no opiate or other narcotic, and is perfectly safe even for the youngest infants. I am constantly receiving reports from all parts of the kingdom attesting its remarkable power to relievo and cure troublesome coughs. IT IS PRESCRIBED BY THE MEDICAL PRO. FESSION, and USED in the LEADING HOS- PITALS THROUGHOUT THE WORLD. BALSAM OF HONEY Contains PURE WELSH HONEY and an essence of the purest and most efficacious Herbs on the Hills of Wales, being gathered in the proper seaaon, when their virtues are in full oerfection. A STIPENDIARY AND A MAGISTRATE IN THE COUNTY OF GLAMORGAN REMARK8: — I feel it my duty to inform you that I have been ueintf your Tudor Williams' Balsam of Honey in my family, which is a large one. for many years, and have proved its great value, having used nothing else for Cough. dnrinr Measles. OUR FOOTBALL SKETCHES.I.
OUR FOOTBALL SKETCHES. I SATURDAY'S TIT-BIT OF THE LEAGUE. The "Old Firm" in Scoring Mood. [By "FORWARD."] I For aome reason the Mountain Ash team or club ha* come to be known as "the old firm," and it must be confessed that there is a natti- ness in the nickname whatever its meaning. The "old firm" was aa straight and as stout as a telegraph pole on Saturday, and Peny- graig, previously unbeaten this season, com- pletely collapsed under it. The result of the I game was a. surprise to everybody, not so much because Mountain Ash won, as the score of two goals, four tries by which they did j win. "An even gama" was the general prediction before the match; "only one team in it, the general opinion after the match. Thoee who are accustomed to a sort of roving commission in football will probably agree with me when I say that it is remarkable with me when I say that it is remarkable how environment influences our great winter J game. In the valleys of South Wales, or I instance, one sees one class or character of football; in the towns an entirely different game is played. Since we commenced ciii^ng up the golden stairs of success in our inter- national engagements we have heard a good deal of "the Welsh style." It is recognised and envied by the three other countries, all of which are striving patiently to emulate that style. Now, in Glamorganshire League Football one seldom sees any of thoae charac- teristics in the play which are the making of that "Welsh style." The reason for it is that the brunt of the work in attack is taken in hand by the forwards, and back play is forced to take second place. With the town teams. such as Cardiff, Newport, Swansea, and ilanelly, oil the other band, the primary >bject is to give the baclas as many chances s possible, and it is only when the forwards .abserve themselves for that purpose, and vhen the backs are capable of making skilful tso of the opportunities given them by the orwards. that we can possibly catch glimpses )f the "Welsh style." The aim of the future among the league olubs should be that of cultivating a better ind more attractive style of back play with. Jut sacrificing much of their present robust- less and vigour in front. Just a little of that rigour can be safely surrendered, because in many cases it borders on roughness. It a not necessary. A man can be effectively tackled without being hurt. Take Gwyn Nicholas, as an example. There never was a surer tackier than he. and yet one rarely, if jver sees this great player hurting an oppo- lent in bringing him down. Shugar, one of the Penygraig front men, ,ad to pay the penalty for excessive vigour, nd qualified as a candidate for suspension jy the Welsh Union. Shugar is evidently not jxactly what his name would imply, except it ie that the better li iu the name is a sort, ,f slving clause. He was the bulkiest and eaviest man in the Penygraig team. and his ithdrawal from the pack had a demoraiis iu; ffect on his comrades. Owing to the retire- uent, through accident, of Arthur Williams, the right wing, one of the Penygraig forwam had previously been brought out of the pack, so that after Shugar had gone, too, there were only six forwards against the burly eight of Mountain Ash. This weakening of the front rank, in my opinion, was the secret of the tall scoring, for more than half of it WaB dona subsequent to the retirement of the players named. Had Penygraig been spared their misfor t.unes they would have made a much beUoeJ show, though they would not have escaped defeat. Their lighter forwards started well and made the pa-ce a "cracker" for the first quarter of an hour. They were clever, too. in open footwork, but. finding that they could not pierce the Mountain Ash defence, they slowed down, and from then on to the end were beaten. Tiiey missed their captain, Harry Jones, who was on the ground, but not sufficiently recovered from an attack of pleurisy to take part in the game. Holding such a material advantage in front, both in weight and numbers, the Mountain. Ash forwards had no difficulty in securing the hall in the scrums, and heeling it out cleanly, They had a capital connecting link between them and the three-Quarters in Wyndham Jones. If there had been any Cardiff club supporters ou the ground they would pro- bably have ielt regret that such a clever player had ever been allowed to slip out of their hands. And yet it was scarcely the fault of the Cardiff committee, for there seemed to be a fate dogging Wyndham' foot- steps as a Cardiff player, which continually I made him the victim of accident. He opened out the game in a masterly fashion on Satur- day, and his pass to Sam Mujwortby froub which that player scored the first try was a real beauty. Wyndham Jones is unquestion- ably the cleverest outside half playing in the Glamor ran League at the present time. Hanford, the Mountain Ash right wing. is a player who struck me by his form on Satur- day as being considerably euperior to the average three-quarter in league football. He is safe and «mart in picking up the bail, and I in fielding it, kicks with judgment, and runs not only speedily, but with determination for the line. His try oa Saturday was the prettiest of the match. Before the ball came to him it had been j handled by the two halves and the two centres, and for this bout of passing, at least. I Mountain Ash must be given the credit of I having reached the high level of scientific passing which is implied in the "Welsh style." As a variation in the afternoon's programme a, butcher's horse gave a little entertamnMnb on its own. Taking the bit between its teeth, this intelligent animal careered wfidiy over the coal tips. and with commendable sagacity- disposed of the butcher s boy by throwing* him out of the c^i t just before reaching the edge of one of these lofty tips. With only the cart- as an encumbrance the foolish horse made the descent. The consequences were disastrous, tbe cart being smashed and the runaway captured in an attempt to negotiate a barbed wire fencing. As a direrjion the incident was amusing to everybody except. the butcher, the boy, and the horse.
