No English wheat on oner. CATTLE. Carmarthen, Wednesday.—The monthly market was held here to-day. It was fairly large considering that June fair,practically opened this evening. Sheep were mostly in demand, the quotations being: Lamb 4id per lb., yearling sheep 3Jd<.Per„lb-' ewes 3d "per lb., sheep and lambs £ 2 15s to £ 3. There was no sale for cows with calves, but Messrs Lloyd and Thomas, auctioneers, disposed of 20 head of cattle at prices ranging from £ 1015s to £ l6- Newport, Wednesday.—Short supply of cattle, good supply of sheep, lambs, and calves. Large attendance of buyers. Slow trade in cattle keen demand for lambs, sheep, and calves. Talgarth, Tuesday.—This old established May fair was held here to-day. In the cattle market, although there was a good supply of stock, there was practic- ally no beef on offer, the prevailing price in the neigh- bourhood just now being 7d per lb. Yearling steers sold from £9 to Ell; cows and calves (in demand), ii.1 to 117. In the sheep market, good couples sold well- Shropshires 59s, dross-bred Radnors 35s. There was a large supply of store wethers, but a small demand- wether mutton, 7td; ewe, 6d; lamb (good supply), 9d. Pigs were advanced, those about three months old realising from 22s to 25s each. Rhayader. Wednesday —Supply moderate, and de- mand better than a week ago. Best Radnor hogs up to 29s apiece inferior ditto, 16s to 24s Welsh ewes and lambs, 20s to 24s better quality ditto, 35s to 38s. Not many catttle offered. Cows with calves, ilo to £14. PONTYPRIDD TIPPLERS. A number of visitors to Pontypridd on Mon- day indulged too freely in strong drink, and after being lodged for' the night in the cells they were arraigned before Mr James Roberts, J.P., on Tuesday. Wm Sheen, John O'Connor, John Callaghan, W. Brown, and D. Murray, were fined 10s, and Elizabeth Edwards and Mary Webb were mulcted in 20s each,

MARIE LLOYD SUED. Lord Guthrie, in the Court of Session, Edinburgh, on Tuesday, closed the record in the action by the Moss Empires against Marie Lloyd, the comedienne, for Z910. Plaintiffs stated that in 1906 they entered into an agreement with the defend- ant to appear at seven of their halls be- tween April and June, 1910, and in that agree- ment she was not to appear at any time prior to the completion of her engagement at any other place of amusement within a radius of 10 miles from these theatres. Defendant, however, appeared at a Glasgow hall. She pleads that the stipulations in the contract are unrea- sonable and oppressive, and that she is not legally bound by it.

Premier at G'ovelly. BADGERED BY SUFFRAGETTES. Since his arrival at Clovelly Court on Friday, Mr Asquith has been suffering: some annoyance from the suffragettes. He travelled from Lon- don to Exeter by trnin, and motored from there to Clovelly. Three suffragettes—Miss Jessie Kenny, Miss Elsie Howey, and Miss Vera Wentworth—followed him, determined, as it seems, to interview him if possible. Having thoroughly mastered the plan of the Court grounds on the night of their arrival, they commenced operations next morning, Sunday, by sitting in the front pew of Clovelly Church gowned in the colour of the W.S.P.U., just opposite Mr Asquith, who was in the chan- cel. Mrs Asquith first detected their presence and passed a note to her husband, who left by a side door directly the service ended. The suftra- gettes quickly made their way outside, and accompanied him to Clovclly Court. They asked for an interview. He replied, Not a second." Miss Woodlock is in prison while you are on your holiday," they said. If you will not give us an interview we shall force one." I won't, iisten to vou." was the Premier's rejoinder. At the Court the door was closed upon the women. On Monday morning the suffragettes returned to the attack. They tried to hide behind some bushes on the lawn in front of the Court to catch Mr Asquith when he came out, but they were discovered and led away by the police, who closely watched them. For some time they evaded the police bv scrambling down some cliffs. Emerging again after about an hour, they saw Mr Asquith on the private links. Deem- ing it necessary to coy away the police, each suffragette moved towards Mr Asquith; from different directions. The police concen- trated their energies on Miss Kenny, who en- gaged them in conversation. Meanwhile, Miss Howey and Miss Went- worth circled round unperceived, and started to run after Mr Asquith, who had now nearly reached the Court. When the police saw this move they pursued them, but the suffragettes were well ahead. They took the Prime Minis- ter by the arm- Turning to the constables, Mr Asquith said, Take these women away. I refuse to speak to them." The women reminded Mr Asquith of their words to him on Sunday. The guests by this time had all arrived on the scene, however, and the women w ere then escorted off the grounds.

TWO TOURISTS ENTOMBED. News received in London on Monday gave details of an extraordinary accident that has befallen a party of tourists in the terrible pothcile known as Gaping Ghyll, a cavity on the side of Ingleborough Mountain, four miles eas t of Iugleton. In this pothole two tourists have been entombed since Sunday. The impri- soned men, with 28 other members of the Yorkshire Ramblers' Club, spent Sunday in the Ghyll, which has become very popular as a place for explorations. It communicates with Ingleboro cave, and in summer forms the channel of a stream which has carried masses of sand and pebbles into the hollow below. The chasm is 340 feet deep, with a landing place at a depth of 190 feet, from which the bottom is visible. When the time for reaching the surface came the two men, who had re- mained some distance behind the main body, round that the ruins had caused such an inrush of water into the pothole that it was impossible to make the ascent. To make their predicament worse their tele- phone which should have communicated with the surface failed to work. It was not until Monday morning that communication with the imprisoned men could be established. One of their comrades descended part of the way and despatched messages in a tin box attached to a cord. The entombed men announced that they were in a dry place and had three days' supply of food. The mountain is in the North- west corner of Yorkshire, between Settle and Kirkby Lonsdale in Westmoreland. The tourists who were reported to have lost their way and to have been entombed in the pot hole called Gaping Ghyll, on the side of the Ingleborough Mountain, four miles to the east of Ingleton, Yorkshire, have all re- turned to Leeds and the neighbourhood safely.

At Salem Welsh Baptist Church, Barry Dock, on Tuesday the annual musical festival of the Baptist churches of Barry District, Cowbridge, Croesyparc, Llancarfan, Llan- dough, and Llantwit Major was heldv The singing was excellent throughout, especially in the congregational hymns. The conductor was Mr T. D. Edwards, A.R.C.M., Porth, accompanists Messrs S. B. Thomas, Barry Dock, and J. Griffiths, Llancarfan. The chair- men at the respective meetings were Mr E. T. Hopkins, Cowbridge, Rev. O. J. Jones, Cowbridge, and T. Howell, Cwm, Barry, while the speakers were Revs. M. Isaac, Cadoxton, Q. Davies, Llantwit, and Mr E. A. Matthews, 13MTY. The twenty-seventh annual musical festival of the Pontypridd and District Welsh Metho- dists was held at the Town Hall, Pontypridd, on Whit-M the united choir being drawn from the churches at Pontypridd, Hopkins- town, Hafod, Treforest, Llantwit, Upper Boat, Coedpenmaen, Cilfynydd, Nelson, Treharris, Llanbradach, Ystradmynnch, Caerphilly, Aber- tridwT, and Senghenydd. Under the conduc- torship of Mr J. T. Rees, Mas. Bac., Aberyst- wyth, the massed choir gave excellent render- ings of the hymn tunes, Talyllyn," Gwynfa," Deganwy," and the anthem, Milwr yr yr Arglwydd." composed by the conductor, and Yo Nations," from the Hymn of Praise." The presidents were Messrs J. Jenkins, Treforest, R. Jones, Tre- harris, and Rev. J. Vardre Jones. The accom- panists were JVIiss. S. A. At the festival of the Welsh Baptists of the Pontypridd district at Tabernacle Chapel the united choir, under the conductorship of Mr T Gabriel, F.T.S.C., Bargoed, sang splendidly. and the children's service was a conspicuous success. During the evening service Mr John Hughes, Llantwit Vardre, who has discharged the secretarial duties for a great many years, was presented with an illuminated address acknowledging his services to the denomina- tion in fostering congregational singing. Treorky. The Welsh Baptists of Upper Rhondda held their annual singing festival at Noddfa, Treorkw. The children's service in the morn- ing was particularly interesting. The meetings for adults exceeded the most sanguine expecta- tions. Various hymn tunes and anthems were rendered with finish and demonstrated the masterly training of the conductor, Professor J. T. Jones, L.R.A.M. Mr E. D. Thomas pre- sided at the organ.

RADNORSHIRE ASSIZES. The Summer Assizes for the county of EtadnOr were held at the Shire Hall. Presteign, on Tuesday, before Mr Justice Walton. Sir P. C. Milbank was foreman of the grand jury. In the course of his address to the grand jury his Lordship said he quite agreed with the new rule whereby the clerk of the peace was able to dispense with the services of the grand jury and all others interested in cases where there was no business to be transacted. It might be that other changes were coming in connection with the administration of justice in the counties, but in his opinion it would be very dangerous to interfere substantially with the present methods of carrying out the criminal law. Brothers Guilty of Wounding. Henry Warner was indicted for unlaw- fully and maliciously wounding H. Pearks on the 27th March last. Mr Clement Edwards, M.P., prosecuted, and the Hon. H. C. Bailey (instructed by the Court) defended. Prisoner elected to give evidence, and denied every- thing the witnesses had said. Mr Bailey suggested the cuts on prisoner were iD- flicted by some glass and crockery ware during the scuffle. The jury, after a short consultation, found prisoner guilty. The Judge decided, before passing Bentence, to hear the case against William Warner, brother of the last prisoner, who was charged with having on the 27th of March unlawfully and maliciously wounded William Price at Presteign with intent to do him grievous bodily harm. Prisoner pleaded not guilty. The same counsel ap- peared, and the jury found prisoner guilty of unlawfully wounding. ) Henry Warner was sentenced to six months' and William Warner to 4 months' hard labour.

CHARGEFOFEXPOSING CHILDREN. Thomas Martin, Prospect-row, -Brecon, was charged at Brecon Police Court on Tuesday with exposing bis five young children on the 24th ult. in a way calculated to cause them suffering and injury to health. Police-Sergeant Thomas Evans found the defendant's wife and her five children (one a baby) out in the rain at 11.30 on the night in question. She told him her husband had turned her and children out. He went to the defendant's house and found the door barricaded. InspectorStarr.N.S.P.C.C., deposed that defendant had been cautioned three times for exposure during the past 12 months. Defendant denied barricading the door, stating that he merely put a chair against it. His children were not afraid to go to bed on the night in question because he had threatened to cut his throat. He had cut his throat once, but he would not do it again. Defendant was fined 10s and costs, the Mayor stating that the Bench considered the wife was as much to blame as the defendant.
