Tliat was how an in- fectious disease was spread.—The Sanitary Inspector said it was open to the Council lo take legal proceedings against the workman.—In frtJhelr refeneiicte to the houses in Garn, the Inspector said the houses were not on the rate book.—Con- sideration of the matter was deferred for the attendance of Mr R. O. Williams.— In connection with Glanrafon Farm, it was decided to issue a closing order to six months unless the house was put in a habitable condition. Remarkable Family School Attendance Record.—It would be difficult to find a school attendance record by members of the same family equal to that held by the children of Councillor D. R. Evans,' Borthygest. One child has not missed school for seven years, another has not missed for five years, a third has not missed for four years, and a fourth child has not missed for three years. Home Rule All Round.—At Portmadoc Liberal Club on Friday night an inter- esting discussion took place on the ques- tion of home rule all round, more partic- ularly in its effect on Wales. Mr R. Lloyd Jones, Tremadoc, and Mr J. R. Roberts, Emporium, opened in favour and Mr T. J. Jones (Oynfi), Prenteg, and Dr Pierce Jones against. An opportunity to heckle the openers was taken free ad- vantage of, nearly an hour being taktti up (replying to quteptfknns. Mr. Lulew Da vies ,presided. Mr Lloyd George's Victory-There were remarkable scenes of enthusiasm at Port- madoc Liberal Club on Saturday night when news cime about half past eleven that Mr Lloyd George had been returned •v^ijth an increased majority. Tlte Club Roam was packed to and beyond the doors, and the assembly for about five minutes set up ringing cheers which could be heard a couple of miles away. Then someone suggested parading the streets. In a moment the room was emptied and along the streets the enthu- siasts went singing election songs and cheering for all they were worth, partic- ularly when the Conservative Club Rooms were reached. They tiled back to the Liberal Club at a quarter to twelve when further Liberal successes were an- nounced and songs given by Mr R. Bar- row Thorpe and Mr R. Lloyd Jones. "Rarlier in the evening addresses were delivered by Alderman J. Jones Morris, Mr G. R. Jones, B.A., B.D., and AU Arthur Rhys Roberts of London. Roberts, clerk to the County Council, with having used a car without a licence. Mr Charles A. Jones appeared for the prosecution. Defendant was fined ICs. with 8s. 6d. costs.—Humphrey Williams, Carregyfelin, the other defend- ant, denied the charge.—'P.C. 40, Cric- cieth, said he saw defendant driving three passengers. The name which the car bore was inside the car and could not be seen.—Defendant said the three pas- sengers were his mother and two sisters. —Asked if he had ever carried passengers other than his family, he replied "No." The Bench dismissed tLe case on pay- ment of costs and advised the defendant to have his name put outside the car.- The Chairman said farmers would be on the safe side if they put their name properly on the car.—Mr C. A. Jones: Yes, so long as they don't carry passen- gers. School Cases.—Anne Williams, Cric- cieth, was summoned by J. W. Jones, school attendance officer, for neglecting to send her child to school. An attend- ance order was made.—A like order was made agamst David Hughes, Sipith- street, Portmadoc.

BLAENAU FESTINIOG. Obituary.—The death took placq on Sunday in Liverpool, following a surgical operation at a hospital, of Mr David John Rowlands, manager of Graigddu Quarry. His death will be a distinct loss to Beth. ania Congregational Chapel and to the District Sunday School Union. He was one of the secretaries to the Union. Jones with having used obscene language at the Festiniog Liberal Club on November 26th. It was stated that he made use of offensive remarks to Mr White Phil- lips, chairman of the Club, and that he was ejected by the police. Afterward, lie apologised to Mr Phillips for his con- duct.—Fined Is. with 7s. 6ld. costs.—A like penalty was inflicted on Robert Lloyd, .bont, Tanygrisiau, for using obscene language at the same place at the same time. t Two Charges.—Elizabeth Griffith, 8, Ynys-terraoe, Blaenau, was charged with saving kept a dog without a licence and living, ianeo to report ttie linding of a stray dog which she took possession of and kept for some moi-itlis. -Defend- ant said she. found the dog on the street •and made a lot of inquiries on finding it but failed to tracei the owner, a local Init- cher, until recently.—Fined 7s. 6d. and 7s. 6d. costs on the first charge and Is and 7s. 6d. costs on the second charge Assault.—Mary Catherine Hughes, 1 Dolydd-terrace, Blaenau. for whom Mr. R. O. Davies appeared, summoned Maggie Hughes, Bronlhvyn, Tanygrisiau, for as- sault. 14, rom the evidence, it appeared that the complainant had at one time been an mfliate of an asylum and that the defendant tainted her frequently about it. Complainant protested, where- upon Maggie Hughes threw stones at her, pulled her hair, and scratched her face.—Defendant said complainant came to her in a threatening attitude, and thinking she was going to strike her, she committed, the assault.—The Bench severely reprimanded the defendant for her conduct, and in fining her 2s 6d with 7s 6d costs, said the penalty would have been heavier had defendant not been poor. Quarry Company Summoned Gr J Williams, H.M. inspector of mines and factories, summoned the Oakeley Slate Quarries Company, Limited, for having on September 20th last neglected to fence off a dangerous machine, namely a circular saw, which was used for saw- ing two inch cubes.-Mr Thornton Jones who prosecuted, said on September 20th a workman named David Jones was saw- ing two-inch cubes for bacteria bed pur- poses when in some inexplicable manner he was caught by the sawing machine sustaining su!ch sidriqusi injury as to necessitate the amputation of his left arm. When Inspector Williams visited the quarry four days later, he foundt the machine properly fenced. It was not fenced however, on the day of the acci- dent.-G. John Griffith, a workman, and inspector YVilhams gave evidence —In cross-examination by Mr H. C Vincent who appeared for the defendants, In- spector Williams said he had no recollec- tion of having ever seen the sawing machine at work, or of having visited be- roie the accident- the building where it was kept. He visited the quarry on August 29th and was taken round by John Davies, one of the under managers, but was not taken to this particular bunding. He acknowledged that this was a novel way of making cubes. When he was at the quarry on one occasion, he saw cubes being made with hammer and chisel. The sawing machine used was certainly dangerous unless it had a pro- per cover. On the day of the accident there was no proper oover; neither was the pulley strap protected, but on Sep- tember ¿<tth the matter had been put right. In further reply, he admitted that the Oakeley Quarries Company al- ways tried to conform with every sug- gestion made to them.—Mr Vincent said his instructions were that Mr Wil liams had been in the building thrice before the accident and had made no suggestion that the machine was danger- ous. Mr Vincent said he had three witnesses who would state positively that Mr Williams had been in the building on three occasions; but, as Mr Vincent did rot deny that the machine was a dan- gerous machine, the Bench thought it was unnecessary to hear \vitnesses. — Inas- much as Dr Roberts, Mr 0.. H. Ellis, and W. Owen were prohibited owing to bemg interested in a similar trade from sitting on -the case, the magistrates who adju- dicated on the case were Dr Evans, Mr J. Vaughan Williams, and Mr Cadwaladr It(-,berts.-Aft,ar private delibertion, the Bench decided to fine the defendants 20s. without costs.

Lewys Lloyd, medical officer, and Edward Williams, inspector. Towyn Lighting. Mr. Edmunds impressed the nec- essity of taking steps to provide ad- ditional lamps on Towyn "Promenade. The wall was so low that there was great danger of people falling over owing to in- sufficient hghting Something should be done without delay.—The matter was re- l red to the Towyn Committee. Fairs. A memorial from a committee of farmers and residents was read in favour of holding periodical fairs at Bryncrug. —After OTSCussion, it was decided to in- vite the committee to attend the next Council meeting at Towyn, Mr John Lloyd's motion to hold a special meeting a week before the ordinary meeting being lost by the Chairman's casting vote. Representative. Dr Evans, Bangor, wrote thanking the Council for having re-elected him their representative on. the Governors of Bangor C ollege.—Mr David Davies asked if it was possible to have reports of the proceedings? It was only right that the Council should know what their repre- sentative did.—Mr Maethlon James said Dr Evans was an active member. Educational Bequest. A letter was received from the Board of Education relative to the late Mr Edward Morgan's bequest.—Mr E. L. Rowlands said this was an important question for the district. He certainly thought the draft scheme should have been submitted to the Council for con- sideration before being published; but according to the Board's reply it ap- peared that the scheme would be issued without consulting anyone and without giving an opportunity to appeal. In all previous schemes of that kind, it was usual to allow local authorities, who were interested, to make objections and amendments if so, desired. If he under- stood the matter rightly, however, there would be an arbitrary order made. He had a copy of Mr Morgan's will in his pocket, and as far as he could see the intentions were perfectly plain. It had been decided that the interpretation of the will nrovided the bequest for re- advancement of elementary, or secondary, education, or both, in the sub-districts of Machynlleth, Towyn, and Aberdovey. The Council owed a duty to posterity by in- sisting that the provisions of the bequest should be farily carried out in the inter- ests of the sub-districts. He, therefore, proposed that the Council should com- municate with the Attorney General at once expressing strong objection to the course proposed to be taken, and asking to be furnished with a copy of the draft scheme for consideration before its final adoption.—Mr J. Maetlilon James took it that the proposition meant that the Council would have to formally attend the Court of Chancery to present their case. When the Charity Commissioners acted, the course outlined by Mr Rowlands was followed: but when the Court acted the procedure was different.—Mr Norris, the trustee, could have acted on his own ini- tiative, but chose rather to transfer the responsibility to the Court.—Mr Row- lands said the Court had already decided to allocate the money into three portions for Machynlleth, Towyn, and Aberdovey. —Mr John Rees said he was disappointed to find that the Cburt seemed disposed to ignore the Council's wishes.—Mr John Lloyd seconded the proposition which was carried. Sanitary Matters. The Medical Officer, referring to the notification of infectious diseases, said that boards of guardians were empowered to carry out disinfection in cases of infectious diseases in the houses of paupers. There were, however, many people bordering on pau- perism to whom the expense of disinfec- tion was a vital matter. He asked the Council to empower him to provide neces- saries in the case of people suffering from tuberculosis and similar complaints which needed special apparatus.—On the pro- position of Mr R. R. Davies, seconded by Mr Meredith Jones, the request was ac- ceded to. Aberdovey. The Committee reported having ap- pointed Mr John Rees, 1, Fronheulog, as caretaker of Aberdovey Hall at a salary of 5s. per week, to commence duties on December 1st. It was recommended that the warehouse should be let to Mr J. P. Lewis; and that the gardens on the east side should be divided into nine parts. Tenders were invited for painting. In- structions were given for the provision of proper chimneys. Tenders were invited for the purchase of old lead and scrap iron. 'The Surveyor's plan of new san- itary conveniences for the Drill Hall was approved and orders were given to pro- ceed with the work. The majority of cellars and workshops had been let. The Surveyor presented two complete sets of plans for the Local Government Board. It was probable that the estimated cost would be exceeded.—The report was ad- opted and correspondence from the Local Government Board with regard to the Hall was referred to the Committee. j Rural Ward. The Committee reported that plan of a gardener's cottage at Rhowniar was sub- mitted. The whole of the drainage was shown to empty into a stream crossing the main road. The plan was approved subject to certain conditions, pending the construction of a proper septic tank in connection with the proposed new house of Sir Kettle. Referring to the pro- posed improvement on the main road near Bryncrug, the Surveyor reported having met Mr John Roberts who fav- oured the planting of a growing hedge instead of a boundary wall. The Surveyor feared that few persons were alive who could throw light on t'he question of waste lands and comomns; but it was within the memory of several people in the vil- lages that public use was made of ivid now considered private. He suggested that evidence to that effect should be collected. Efforts to come to an under- standing with the tenant of Gwyddgwion relative to the water turned on t high- way had been futile. The Committee, therefore, recommended that notice of proceedings should be served.—Mr Jothn Rees thought the Council had decided to approach the County Council, not the County Surveyor, with regard to the Bryncrug improvement.—The matter of waste lands was referred to the Ward Committee for investigation and report. —The Committee's report was adopted. Bryncrug Complaint. Mr Wm. Roberts and Mr Richards, Post Office, Bryncrug, wrote calling at- tention to the dangerous state of the road at Bryncrug. The ditch had been deepened, and refuse was deposited on the roadside which made the road par- ticularly dangerous on dark nights.—Mr John Roberts said the only remedy was to find an ingress for the surface water to flow.—The Inspector said the channel had been deepened by Mr Owen Jones, Peniarth, the mud being left on the road- side.—Mr Maethlon James thought the person responsible for the work should be required to remove the cause of com- plaint.—The matter was referred (0 the Committee with power to act. A Petition. A petition was received from residents of Bodfor and Glandovey-terrace, Aber- dovey, complainins: of the nuisance caused by shunting on the railway and the piling of timber before their houses during the season.—Mr W. V. Thomas said the timber hauling was nearly fin- ished; but it was another question when the timber would be removed.-On the proposition of Mr Jones Hughes, it was decided to write to Mr Conacher, of the Cambrian Railways, enclosing the peti- tion. Towyn Matters. The Committee reported having con- sidered the question of water charges sub- mitted by the Surveyor, parts of which were adopted. It was decided that Messrs Davies and Lewis should accompany the Surveyor to inspect Rhydyron cottage with a view effecting improvements. The County Surveyor was invited to meet the Committee to inspect Dolgocli with a view of reporting on the proposed electric lighting scheme. The Committee de- cided to issue pictorial posters early next soring to advertise the district.—MT Jones Hughes asked when the Council might expect to hear of the installation of b electric lighting. at_Towyn?_ (Laugh- Mr Vaueliton had accompanied the Com- mittee to Dolgoch and was favourably impressed with the water power. He was fully convinced that the power was sufficient to provide lighting Mr Towyn, Aberdovey, and Bryncrug. He was proceeding with the scheme and estim- ates. The Committee had instructed Mr Vaughton to provide for the provision of poles along -Vfie road rather than along the Talyllyn railway, as there Was no cer- tainty that the latter would be open per- manintly.Ilr Edmunds said Dolgoch Falls were sufficient to provide a force from 500 to 600 horse power, ur James had omitted to mention the wonders they had discovered. (Laughter.) They found saline and chalybeate springs and were delighted with the glowing prospects for the future. They were confident of being able to relieve the benighted condition of Aberdovey. (More laught-.)-The re- oort was adopted. Financial. It was reported that the balance in hand en the Pennal account was 1:436 and the balance overdrawn on the loan ac- count chiefly due to the Aberdovey Hall expenditure was £ 1,363, leaving a de- ficit of 2227 4s. 2d.

CORRIS. Women's Temperance.—A meeting of the Women's Temperance Society was held on Tuesday evening at Salem Chapel and was presided over by Mrs. Lewis, Green- field-terrace. 'The following members took part:—Mrs Richards, Mount-terrace solo by Miss Nesta. Jones; paper on "Women's Work in Temperance" by Miss Evans; dialogue, Miss A. M. Humphreys and friend; solo by Mrs. Griffiths, Salem Cottage; and reading by Miss Nellie Griffiths. Miss Evans, Abercorris, was the accompanist. During the interval Miss Ellis, Aelybryn, late secretary of the Society, was presented with a hand- some dressing case on her departure for Gwvddelwern. The presentation was made on behalf of the Society by the President, and Miss Ellis acknowledged the gift and the good feeling shown towards her. Special Train.—On Monday a special train was run to Machynlleth and dozens took advantage of it to hear Mr Lloyd George addressing the electors on behalf of Mr. Humphreys Owen. Fiiiieral.-Ull Saturday, the funeral of Mary Owen, Glandwr, (late Factory, Corris), took place at Rehoboth Graveyard. The deceased was well known and respected in C'orris and district, being an old inhabitant. She had attained the age of seventy-three years. The Rev. Rhys Davies and others officiated in the house and at the grave- side. Parish Council.—A meeting of the Parish Council was held on Monday. The Chairman, the Rev. H. R. Williams (Llwydrudd) presided. Reports of the Water and Footpaths Committees were given by Mr H. P. Humphreys and Mr. D. Davies. It was decided to contract for the making of a new bridge at Beth- esda, Aberllefennv; that the Clerk should write to the owner re alleged obstruction cn Abercwmeiddaw public footpath; and to the owners of Gaewern bridge which is in a dangerous condition. A precept of one penny m the pound tor the halt- year was made.

PWLLHELI. Golden Eagle Cal)tl-ii-ed.-The appear- ance of a huge bird hovering above their fields recently gave rise to curiosity and to some extent anxiety on the palrt of farmers m the Abersoch district. After many futile attempts, the bird was eventually shot and captured alive by an Abersoch farmer. The bird is a golden eagle, and is a fine specimen of a rare species. The bird had been shot in the wing only, and, therefore, the capture is much more valuable. It is surmised t'hat the bird reached this part of the country from America owing to the severe weather. The eagle has been dis- patched alive to Mr Fitzhugh, of Wrex- ham. Cyfarfod Misol Presidency.—The Rev David Roberts, Abererch, has been ap- pointed ministerial president of the Lleyn and Sihonydd C.M. Monthly Meeting for the ensuing year. Cyfarfod Misol Presidency. Mr. Richard Lloyd, Tabernacle, Portmadoc, has been appointed lay chairman of the Lleyn and Eifionydd C.M. Monthly Meet- ing for the ensuing year. L-- £ Old Age Pensions.— az a meeting Vi the Pwllheli District Pensions Committee last week, Alderman Maurice Jones pre- siding, thirty applications by paupers to become old age pensioners at the begin- ning of next year were granted. Victor of Radnorshire.—Sir Frank Ed- wards, M.P., addressed meetings at Pwllheli and Criccieth in support of Mr. Lloyd George's candidature on the eve of the poll.

GOGERDDAN FOX- HOUNDS. On Monday morning the hounds met at Furnace and a start was made by drawing the coverts at Ynyshir, but nothing was seen. A course was then taken across country to Darren Neuadd- lwyd. There being nothing there, they were next taken to draw the lowlands near Lodge Park. This draw proved successful. A good-sized fox was set going. It passed up the road from Penparke to Pantcoch and got to Ynys- tudor where it turned and made across Lletylwvdin to the C'lettwr Valley which it crossed. Then it made towards Cefn- erglodd, above Taliesin; passed down by Penpompren Hall; and kept just above Talybont where it crossed the Lerry. It then headed for Lletylwyd and gradually rounded over the slopes at Braichgarw and got to Penprompren ucha where it crossed the Hafan Valley and got on to Tyrlielig. It sued over here and crtfssed the "Ceillan Valley and made up Glan- ravon and Blaennant until it reached the upper part of the Clettwr Valley which it re-crossed. It skirted the lower parts of Gwarcwm bach and Llwynwallter and I at length ran into a rabbit hole in Neu- addlwyd Woods. Here a fox was bolte(I and was at once killed, but it proved to be a fresh one. The hounds continued to work at the hole and a second fox was bolted. This also was similarly dispatched and proved to be the 'hunted fox which had given an excellent run across country for about two hours and a half. This was a singular instance of a brace of foxes being killed after a single run. The scent was splendid and the hounds hunted in grand style. Amongst those present were Sir Edward Pryse, Mr Cecil Jones, Mr Turner, Mr Tudor Jones, Mr Matson, Dr Williams, Mr W. ^en- kins, Mr Abraham Davies, Mr Jones, Mr Wm Morris, Mr J. Morgans, Mr R. Davies, Mr J. Williams, etc. GOGERDDAN BEAGLES. These little hounds continue to show good sport. On Wednesday of last week the meet was at Nowhere—a curious name (' _1 tor a place-where a hare was rounu -iieai Tom Joe's, the keeper's house. She ran through the plantation over to Mynydd- gorddu, turned left handed over Penpom- pren Bog, then back over Bwlchddwy- allt and Cynnullmawr to the place where the nack found. There was a fresh find-which ran up the hill, but soon down again nearly to Nowhere. Near Y Fag- wyr, the little hounds pulled 'her over after one hour and twenty-five minutes practically without a check. On Satur- day, the 10th, the meet was at Borth when there was a good gathering, amongst them being the Master, Lady Pryse, Sir Edward Pryse, Fred. Sum- mers (who hunts the hounds well and is hard to beat running), G. C. Williams, first whip, also hard to beat, R. Rich- ards, B. E. Morgan, F. Boycott, Mrs G. Pryse, Miss Williams, Miss Parry, Miss Thring, as well as a lot of the sporting farmers. The first hare was found at once on Ynysfergi. It ran nearly down to Ynyslas and back over Ynysfergi Farm across the commons to Glanlerrv where she squatted. The hounds nearly caught her; but after another ten min- utes' pretty hunting ran into her after fifty minutes. The next hare was found on Pantydwn Bog. She ran hard up to the top of the hill where three fresh hares got up. The hounds stuck to their hunted hare, ran her back to the bog, and back over Brynllys down to Doly- bont and up to the top of Henllys. There a sheep dog coursed her and either

DYFFRYN. Death in Aiiierica.-Tlle death has taken place in America, at the age of eighty years, of Mr Thomas Lloyd Wil- liams, son of the late Captain Evan Wil- liams, Dyffryn, who emigrated to Racine sixty years ago. For twenty years he was engaged in the general merchandise busi- ness In Racine, then for twelve years he worked in the Racine Woollen Mills, and later served as city assessor for three years and as supervisor of the Second Ward for four years. He was a gentle- man of high character and was recog- nised as a leader among the Welsh people of Racine. He leaves a wife and one daughter.

PENRHYNDEUDRAETH. West Merioneth Monthly Meeting.— The West Merioneth C.M. Monthly Meeting was held at Mmftordd on Mon- day. The Rev David Hughes, Trawsfyn- ydd, presided. The Rev R. H. Watkins, Brnycrug, was appointed ministerial chairman, and Mr Hugh Evans, Aber- llefenny, lay chairman for the ensuing year, and the Rev E. Jones EUwards, Arthog, was appointed secretary. The Rev John Thomas, Cardiff, and Nurse Lloyd addressed the meeting on the For- ward Movement of the Connexion in South Wales. They also addressed a public meeting on Monday night. The Rev R. H. Watkins preached on Tuesday night, the Rev Richard Morris, Dol- gelley, on Wednesday night, and the Rev J. Henry Williams, Portmadoe,, last niiht, Wedding.—The marriage was solemn- ized on Thursday at Bethel Chapel, Col- wyn Bay, of Mr William Jones, Osmond House, Penrhyn, formerly of Canol-y-cae, and Miss E. E. Williams, daughter of Mrs Williams, Hyfrydle, Colwyn. Bay. The Rev T. M. Jones officiated. The bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr W. 0. Williams, was accompanied by her sister, Miss Marie Williams, as brides- maid, and the best man was Mr H. Har- rison, Holyhead. Obituary.—The death took place on Friday of Mrs Williams, wife of Captain Arthur Williams, Greenhill, at the age of forty-two years.-The funeral took place on Saturday of Mr Robert Evans, Os- mond-terrace, who died at the age of forty-seven years, leaving a wife and nine children.—The baby child of Mr R. T. Jones, Y Bryn, died on Saturday. The child died during the hour of the funeral of its mother. Pr<5bab7y the man would leave at the end of the year and apply for an old age pension.—Mr Fow- den Jones: Which means that we will have kept him for three months.—The Clerk said it was open to the Board to take legal proceedings with a view to fix- ing his chargeability on Toxteth.—The Chairman suggseted that a further letter should be sent pressing for a reply.—The suggestion was adopted. Absconded.—A male inmate, aged thirty-two years, who absconded from the Workhouse, was stated to have been brought back next day by the Harlech police. Many Inmates.—The Workhouse in- mates were stated to number ninety-four, an increase of sixteen as compared with a year ago. Appointment.—Mr David Jones, assist- ant clerk, was unanimously re-appointed stocktaker at a salary of £ 6. A Regular Nuisance.—There was an application for boots for four children of a man in Festiniog district with a wife and seven children who was frequently out of work.—The Chairman said it was a deplorable case. The wife and child- ren were begging all the time. He did not know how the police had not taken action. The woman and children were about the streets day and night and were a regular nwisance. The children did not attend school and the matter was before the justices recently when it was decided to give "them two months' time to improve, but there was no im- provement whatever. He did not think that cannibals could be worse than those children were.—Mr D. Tegid Jones and the Rev D. Collwyn Morgan asked if it was not possible for the Guardians to take charge of the children?—The Chair- man No, we have no power to take the children compulsorily. That is one of the weaknesses of the poor law system. He added that the Education Managers were moving with a view to sending the child- ren to an industrial school, which would be their salvation.—The Relieving Officer (Mr W. Thomas) said the man was em- ployed for a few days last week and earned 16s. lOd. Unfortunately, how- ever, he was unable to get constant work. He was simply a casual labourer. More- over, when he got steady work he did not stick to it.—The Chairman said un- less something was done the children would grow up like their parents and be- come a regular pest to society. The children seemed quite unconcerned. He saw two of them, twins, rolling on the street the other day and looking per- fectly happy. (Laughter.) It was really astonishing to think that there should be such a case in a Christian land.-Mr Tegid Jones said as the excuse for the children not attending school was that they had no boots, he movecT that boots should be given to the four children.— Mr Richard Williams seconded the pro- position which was agreed to.—The Re- lieving Officer was directed on the pro- position of Mr G. Parrv Jones, seconded by Mr Edward Llewelyn, to buy the boots and to inform the School Attendance Officer of the purchase. A Prisoner's Family.—Application was made for out-relief for the wife and tliTee children of a man who had teen im- prisoned for two months.—lhe Kev Coll- wyn Morgan proposed that 8s. a week out-relief should be given.—The Chairman said it could not be done legally.—The Rev D. Collwyn Morgan said the Board had granted relief in like circumstances to persons from Festiniog and no question of order was raised.-The Chairman: I am dealing with a case now before the Guardians, whilst the Rev D. Collwyn Morgan is dealing with some other case.- The Rev D. CUlwyn Morgan: Now, now; I don't want any of that "Reverend here.—The Chairman said the Guardians could not legally grant out-relief out and out.—Mr Tegid Jones proposed a grant of 6s. a week by way of loan.—Mr Fowden Joens and Mr E. Jjlewe-jyn- seconded tne proposition.—The Chairman suggested that the case should be left to the reliev- ing officer's discretion and that the ad- vances he made should be by way of loan. —The suggestion was adopted. Portmauoc and a Convalescent Home. Attention was drawn to a case from Port- madoc recommended to be sent to Rhyl Con- valescent Home, but no ticket was avail- able.—The Chairman: Are there no subs- cribers in Portmadoc towards the RhvI Convalescent Home ?-Captain Morgan Jones said he did not know of any.—The Chairman: Then it is high time for the people of Portmadoc to wake up to then obligations. He laughingly added that he honed that Captain Morgan Jones would- take the initiative as a subscriber. —The Clerk said he understood there were some subscribers in Portmadoe.-It was then agreed that a copy of the list of subscribers should be procured. Financial.—The adverse balance in the hank was stated to have been reduced to JE7. In out-relief L259 was spent dur- ing the past fortnight, being exactly the same as was spent in the corresponding period of last year. An Explanation Sought.—Mr G. Parry Jones drew attention to the fact that the husband of a woman who died at the Asylum on a Friday was not informed of the death until the following Monday. Gulls.—Every day between the hours of one and three about seventy seagulls can be seen hovering above Gwelfor, the residence where Major Hinds stays on the Marine-parade. The gulls have become quite tame owing, no doubt, to the good feeding they get. The Major having given instructions that they shall be fed daily about mt time, the birds never fail to turn up.
