TESTIMONIAL TO THE REV. HUGH WILLIAMS M.A., VICAR OF BASSALLEG, & CHANCELLOR OF THE DIOCESE OF LLANDAFF. IT is proposed to offer a TESTIMONIAL of Respect and Esteem to the REV. HUGH WILLIAMS, who, for Twenty-five Years, was Deputy-Chancellor of Llandaff; for Ten Years has faithfully performed the office of Chancellor of that Diocese and for more than Sixteen Years has conscientiously discharged the sacred duties of Pastor of the Parish of Bassalleg. The services so long rendered by the Rev. HUGH WIL- LIAMS in his two-fold capacity of a Christian Minister and Judge of the Ecclesiastical Court, are of no common order -independent of which there is a strong desire on the part of many persons publicly to testify their feelings towards him, on account of the generous manner in which he has always endeavoured to aid his poorer countrymen, by giv- ing them the benefit of his valuable advice, and exertin^ his influence to bring about amicable adjustments out of court, and so to prevent, instead of encouraging, litigation As a Welshman, the Rev. Chancellor is also especially entitled to the gratitude and respect of his countrymen • for, although gifted with the literary attainments of an accomplished classical scholar, he has ever been free from that unhappy weakness which induces neglect and indif- ference to the language of Wales but has ever been ready to show attachment to his county, by contributing by his own talents and example, to the cultivation of Welsh Literature for the best and highest purposes. It has, therefore, been determined by 'several indivi- duals in the Diocese of Llandaff, as well as by those in duals in the Diocese of Llandaff, as well as by those in other parts of Wales, publicly to record their opinion of him as known to themselves and their friends, uuder any or all the relations above specified.
