Considerable inactivity prevailed in the demand for wheat in the country markets held on Saturday, notwith- standing that the supplies on offer were but moderate. All spring corn—the receipts of which were on the increase moved off heavily, and the currencies had a downward tendency. All kinds sold readily at the extreme rates of Monday, and a clearance was readily effected. Most of the importers of foreign wheat demanded more money; hence, the business doing was not extensive. Prices, however, were fully supported. We have an improved inquiry for barley, at extreme rates. There was only a moderate inquiry for malt on former terms. The oat trade was firm, and there was more disposition shown to purchase flower. SMITHFIELD CATTLE MARKET, FEBRUARY, 20.
