TURKEY. CONSTANTINOPI.E, FEB. 8.- -Since the settlement of aiTaiis with Russia, polotics are not so brisk as formerly. The steamer which is to convey the Poles to Malta having suffered severe damages in the Black Sea, has been obliged to return to Constantinople in order to undego repairs. In the mean- while another government steamer has been ordered to Varna. Ahmet Effendi, by the last accounts, was at Shumla, and was busy inscribing and verifying the authenticity of the Poles who are to quit the country. The Hungarians, to the num- ber of thirty-three, are to be located in Keutaya. The latter are to be disembarked at Mandania the foimer continue their route for Malta. By the same steamer will arrive several Croats, who were despatched by the Austrian internuncio for the purpose of assassinating Kossuth, Perczel, Bathany, and Dembinsky, and who were arrested by the governor of Varna. Diplomatic relations have not yet been resumed, on account of a certain misunderstanding between the Divan and the Court of Vienna respecting the length of time of detention; but everything was expected to be satisfactorily arranged in a few days. Later dates from Constantinople are to the 13th. Count Sturmer persists in his demand that the refugees should be detained in the interior during five years, and the Porte is equally firm in its refusal to comply with a condition so dero- gatory to its dignity. For the present the internated refugees will be transported to Broussa. from whence, when the sea- son grows milder, they will proceed to Kintayeh 1 he usua ly well informed correspondent of the Wanderer states, that the Russians are to occupy Transylvania in order to leave Aus- tria free handed to deal with Italy, and show head against Prussia in Germany.

GAT.VANIST, of 122, Brunswick-square London, earnestly recommends invalids and gentlemen of the me- dical profession to peruse the following. It cannot hut surprise them, and wi'l prove to them the all but miraculous power of Galvanism, when applied in a scientific manner, and with an efticient apparatus. The following case is perhaps as remarkable a one as could be selected, itS showing the powers of Galvanism, after every medicine, aud almost every tiiedic 11 practitioner in \)e\,<JI}shire, had been tried in vain; and as the truth of it is witnessed by a distinguished clergyman of the Church oi England, there can, one would suppose, be no doubt in any one's mind as to its accuracy. When the patient was brought to Mr. If., his wife told him that she could not believe that Galvanism or anything else could possibly restore hint for his, complaint had heen standing so long, and he was iu such a weak state, that it wonld bOt presumptuous to expert nny benefit, particu- larly as he had tried the most celebrated (lhy.,ieians in Devonshire, and still daily continued to get worse. She also stated that her friends hiamcd ner very much for removing hilll from his home; but she could not help it; her husband had heard of such extraordinary cures made by Mr. H. in his complaint, that galvanised he would be, in spite of everything. His medical man quite angry with him for thinking of such a thing; and when his friends were carrying him from his house to the carriage, every ore appeared to he convinced hat they should never see him alive any more. But notwithstanding all the (liflieulties he had to contend with, he was determined, and in- sisted upon being galvanised. Tho following letter, which he sent to the editor of the Exeter FI.IIIj!, J>o.ff, will prove the result:- OUGHT NOT GALVANISM TO BE MOBK GENERALLY RE SORTED TO ?—A letter to the Editor of thc Fh) i >'? Post, by one who has derived immense benefit from the power of the Galvanic Aonaratus. Mr. EDITOR, -A few weeks since, I noticed a paragraph by you, stating that Galvanism oiiitlit to be more generally employed. I bcg to state, that I am precisely of the same opinion, for I have witnessed its astonishsng eflecls in a number of cases, and its power has been its 8, tried particularly on myself, with the happiest results. In that para- graph I was most happy to FIND favourable mention of Mr. Halse's name All that you have said of him, and even more, is his due; indeed, as for myself, I have cause to bless the day that I first placed myself under his care. Now, sir, my case was a most deplorable one, for I had not the least use of either arm or leg-they hung about me like as if they did not belong to me, and the strength of my legs WAS insufficient to support the weight of my body of course I could not stand, and if YOU HAD offered me a thousand guineas to move either hand but one inch from the place where it might have been placed, I could not have done it; not the least command had I over my LIMBS. My complaint was caused by a blow on the back Well, as before slated, I placed mpelf undcr Mr. Halse's galvanic treatment. 1 had been led to believe that it was a dreadful operation to go through; but I WAS surprised that there was no unpleasantness at an about it, not even enough to make a child cry, so beautifully «O°S Mr. Halse manage his battery. IN three days, sir, I could stand upon my legs, and in one week I could walkabiiut the house; at the same mie I ;I]M> partially recovered the use of my aims; and in six weeks, I COULD walk several miles in a day without the least assistance. Well might you ask, Ought not Gal- vanism to be much resorted to 1 After what I have seen and expe- rienced. I do constidcr rt a shame that a portion of the medical profession should decline to rcoommend their patients to try the powers of Galvanism. ierhap;, I need not state, that I had had the advice of the most celebrated phyMcians in this country; but all the medicines which were tried, did me little or no good. 1 believe Mr. Halsc was as much surprised as myself aud friend, when, at the expiration of a week, he saw that 1 could walk, for he did not lead ME to believe that there would he such a rapid impiovement. I will state, that invalids arc very much to blame if they do not give OTTLVANISM a tiial, for if it rices no good, it is impossible It can do any harm but there is every probability of its doing good, for during the time I was under Mr Halse's cure,1 noticed its happyeffects in a VARIETY of cases, pilrticulaily sciatica, rheumatism, asthma, and nervous- ",so ;indeed, all his patients were rapidly reg-aining their health. I man RT'KRET T,LAT I had not applied to him earlier I should have been Y scores of pounds in pocket, had I done so. -.NL,WT "GEORGE E. I am, truly, yours, Medicine Warehouse, Yeovil. J. GAMIS. E. A. An elderly gentleman, came for a second box of Parr's Pills, and with pleasing astonishment, said, these are the best pills I have ever had, and I intend always to keep them by me they are the best remedy for the piles I have ever tried. P. G. Another person, aged 76, affirmed, that after trying almost every medicine for indigestion and bilious complaint, Parr's Life Pills stand unequalled, and emphatically said it was the best apelient medicine extant. W. E. A young man, who had for a longtime been rendered incapable from following his usual employment, being painfully afflicted with a most obstinate complaint in his stomach, is now able to follow his usual employment, by perseveting in the use of Parr's Pills. In order to ensure secresv, and punctuality in delivery, the work will be sent direct from the establishment, free to any part of the kingdom, in a sealed enve- lope, on the receipt of Is. 6d. in postage stamps. The Silent Friend is a medical work written in language, of professional technicalities, on the physical disquaim«atiens affecling the generative system in both sexes. It contains an elaborate and care- fully-written account of the anatomy and physiology of the ergans in man which are directly and indirectly concerned in the functien of generation, (illustrated by coloured engravings.) and the eausesand consequences resulting from the baneful practice by which the T goaf and manliness of life are enervated and destroyed, even before niatUT* has fully established the powers and stamina of the constitutien. Local and general debility, nervous irritability and excitement, eonsumption, indigestion of the most fearful and exhausting kind, intense melanaholy and depression of the spirits, and partial or total extinction of the repro- ductive powers. &c., are thus produced. In the Silent Friend, the IIhap- ter devoted to the consideration of these dreadful complaints contains also an aecount of the means by which they nisy be prevented and re- moved so as to restore the sufferer to the full enjoyment of health, and the functions of manhood. The consequenaes arising from venereal contamination are next pointed out, and the nature and character of gonorrhoea, gleet, stricture, and secondary symptoms of every kind, arc clearly explained, with directions for cure. Their dangerous effcets oa the human economy are sufficiently dilated on, and a means is also in- dicated by which the recurrence of these diseases may in every Instance be completely prevented. 1 he work terminates with a chapter en the obligations of marriage, the physical impediments which lend to dis- qualify the candidate for that holy state, and the directions aeocssar/ for their removal. The work is illustrated by the detail of eases, and by twenty six coloured engravings on steel, thus rendering it what its name purrorts it <o be, the true, but silent friend to all suffering from the consequences of early error and vice,-a work which may he con. sulted without exposure, and with every assurance of complete uaecess and benefit: by. Pint the first of this work is dedicated to the consideration of the ana- amy and Fhysiology of the generative functions. It embraces a sue- cinct account of all the organs in man which are engaged in the impor. tant fuii^ion of the reproduction of the species, and the mode in which seffabuse operates to the injury' human frame, and the destruction of the special and vital powers. This is illustrated by six coloured engravings. Part the second treats of the infirmities and decay of the systans pro. duced by over indulgence of the passions. The existence of nervous and sexual debility and incapacity, with their accompanying train of symptoms and disorders, are traced by the chain of connecting reauks to this cause. This section is illustrated by three coloured engravings, which fully display the effects of physical decay. Part the third contains an accurate description of the diseases caused by infection, and by the abuse of inereury primary and secondary symp toms, eruptions of the skin, sore throat, inflammation of the eyes, dis ease of the bones, gonorrhoea, gleet, stricture. &c., are shown to depend on this cause. Advice for the treatment of all these diseases and taetr consequences, is tendered in this section, which, if duly followed up, cannot fail in eiiecting a cure. The part is illustrated by seventy coloured engravings. „ Part the fourth contains a prescription for the prevention of disease by a simple application which the danger of infection is obviated. Its action is simple but sure. It acts with the virus chemically, and destroys its power on the system. This impoitant part of the work should nor escape the reader's notice. the fifth treats of marriage, its obligations and disqualifications The causes which lead to happiness in the marriage state are dwelt upon, and those that are indicative of misery and domestic inquietude The nature, origin, and treatment of physical disqualiifcations are also described, and remeaies for this stte form an important consideration in his section of the work.
