MR. S. L. FOX ON IRELAND. A LEGISLATOR FOR IRELAND-ONE OF THE REAL ORANGE STAMP. (To the Editor of the Times.) StR,-A. you had the courage and good nature to insert my letter to Mr. O'Connell in your paper, I shall be much obliged to you if you will give publicity to this io you, which shall only be a few lines, as I have been much mis-quoted on subjects which I consider of much importance, and which I subjects which I consider of much importance, and which I should never have mooted, unless I had been determined to persevere in my endeavours to prove the truth of what I assert, When I withdrew my notice relative to Roman Catholics sitting in Parliament, I did it in these words :—That having felt the puke Wthe liouae tbe previous night on subjects which it would be necessary to introduce in discussing the question, I was sorry to say 1 had come to the conclusion that nothing but ap- plying the lancet, and shedding much blåod, could cure the de- lirium under which England and Ireland were now labouring that I had always been of opinion that in coosequence of the Roman Catholic Emancipation Act, the two churches of Eng. land and Rome had been brought into a collision, which must end in the final overthrow of one church or the other it WHS, therefore, high time for John Bull to wake fiom his slumbers, lay aside his night cap, and prepare for terrible things, and begged to withdraw the motion. # Now, sir, I have stated my opinion in my place in Parlia- ment, that we are living in a national breach of God's law, in consequence of having ceased to contend for the faith handed down to us by our ancestors for I argued the principle of the Emancipation Act on the Irish Arms Bill, and I contend that it was the properest occasion, for force of arms must finish the controversy, and 1 have never hesitated whether to fight for God's law or man's, now that they are at variance. Ni r. O'Connell tells the people of Ireland that he is not a fighting man but I tell you, sir, for the information of the people of England, that I am a fighting man, and that it shall not be long before I am up to my horse's reins in the blood of infidels. There are some who will say that such language is not war. ranted in Scripture but I say that it is warranted in every page of Scripture. I have showed the House of Commons that the elect of Israel, the offspring of those men who first believed the Gospel, are planted in this nation, and to them belongs the true interpretation 01 God'* word. There are some lions' whelps in this nation, tried, proved, and justified, and ready at a moment's waining to spring up ready-made wairiors. They will take their unbelieving brethren by the h-nd, and plant them in their Own land again, and will soon put to silence the rising Popery of the Oxford School. I have hitherto been robed in the g»ib of folly, and under that disguise have probed the brains of our rulers, and found nothing I have now done with folly, and am a true witness of what St. Paul says, that the foolishness of God is wiser than the wisdom of the world.' 11 You will oblige me by inserting this letter in your much- circulated paper; it will comfort many an honest meaning heart. Fools may stumble at it; and let them stumble and be damned. I remain sir, Your obedient servant, S. L. FOX. 3, St. James's.square, June 22."
CRIMES AND CASUALTES.
CRIMES AND CASUALTES. APPALLING AND FATAL OCCURRENCE.—A dreadful accident, by which six men were instantaneously killed, and two others seriously injured, occurred on Thursday last at Dunkerton, near Baili. It appears that the unfor- tunate individuals were being let down into the pit, when from some inexplicable cause the machinery for that pur- pose became detanged, and the wheel revolving rapidly round, six human beings, namely, job Richardson, aged 30, married, but no family Richard Aylesbury, aged 23 not married Jacob Richardson, aged 36, married, and has a family of six children Aaron Dando, aged 28, mar- ried, but without a family: Thomas Aylesbury, who has been married but three months and aged only 25 and Jeremiah Filer, a youth aged 16, were dashed to pieces. The other two men who descended at the same time re- ceived most dangerous contusions, and scarcely any hopes are entertained of the recovery of either. The appearance of the dead bodies was not such as might have been expected from the horrible mariner in which death had been occasioned with the exception of Richard Aylesbury, the faces of the deceased presented no evidence of the frightful catastrophe which had suddenly hurled him into eternity their appearance being more that of parties who had died peaceably in their beds, some of their cdunte ) nances helllgaclually impressed with a smile! They were all sober, industrious, well disposed persons. All inquest was held on Friday, when the jury returned a verdict ol accidental death. A fearful and fatal accident occurred on Tuesday last, near Cinderford in the Forest of Dean. Three little boy, were playing in an outhouse, when they disengaged a very large iron bar, which was suspended near the ceiling, when it tell on the heads of two of them, killing one in- stantly, and causing the other's death in a very short time. The names of the deceased are Benjamin Bainbury and Jeremiah Buffy, the eldest being only about seven years of age.— Gloucester Journal. MELANCHOLY ACClDENT.-One of the dragoons, who left Carmarthen on Sunday afternoon for Newcastle, went on Monday morning to bathe with some of his comrades in the rivet Tivy, where he was unfortunately drowned in (he presence of his brother soldiers, who were unable to assist or to save him. SEDUCTION, ATTEMPTED SUICIDE, AND MARRIAGE. A little tragedy in veal life came off On Monday even ing, on Sullivan'i-qt^ay in this city. The main part of the action was certainty tragic, but the denouement did not ac- cord with the rules, for, against all the laws made and pro- vided for all tragedies, the end here was a marriage. About haif-past nine that evening, the Rev. Mr.O'Regan was returning homewards, when he was somewhat startled by the apparition of a female, who, in running wildly past him, flung her shawl at his feet; with a shriek, in an in- stant she was on the parapet, and the splash in the water immediately told the tale of the would be suicide. The rev. gentleman was hastily preparing to give his assistance to the unfortunate girl, when a boat providentially was within a few yards 01 her, which, after a good ducking, rescued her from the watery element, where she sought to drown her sorrows and herself. She was immediately conveyed to the Noith Infirmary, where she yet lies. The Rev. Mr. O'Regan, with the kindness of a Christian and the charity of the priest, did not allow the affair to drop here. He inquired into the circumstances, and the fol- lowing is the happy result. It appears the girl's name is Eliza Barry, and that she had been seduced by a man of the name of Hearne. Stung with the reproaches of her friends and the desertion of her swain, she was driven to attempt the rash act, from the consequences of which she was so mercifully saved. Mr. O'Regan, in paying her a visit next day at the Infirmary, had pointed out to him, the nay Lothario who had seduced her affections, and so pow- erfully did he work upon his feelings and conscience, that, after a great many demurs on his part, he succeeded in uniting in holy matrimony the offending lovers. The bride yet continues much indisposed at the Infirmary.- Cork Examiner. A sanguinary drama, which will have its denouement be- fore the court of assize, has just taken place at the farm of Macquefer, in the commune of Autheux (Somme). For a long time past the young Viscount Paul de B-, direc- tor of an insurance company at Arras, had been seeking the hand of a young female of Autheux, Madle. Oppor- tune C-, who resided with her father on the farm, of which he is the owner. They had exchanged promises and the union of the lovers appeared to be resolved upon when on the 14th instant, the viscount received a letter, from the lady informing him that she had altered her mind, and requesting that he would think no more of her, as she was determined not to have him. The letter filled the mind of the young man with rage. lie loaded two pocket-pistols with ball, and set out immediately for the farm of Macquefer, where he arrived on Thursday last at about one o'clock in the morning, and succeeded in set- ting to the bed room of Mdlle. Opportune, who occu- I pied it with her sister. Under pretext that he had left tfe outer door open, he got rid of the sister for a moment, she having left the room to shut it, and then rushing upon Mdlle Opportune, he discharged one of the pistols at her left temple and she was almost immediately a corpse. Eler sister returned as she was yielding up her last breath. The report of the pistol, and the cries of the sister brought up all the other persons of the house to the spot, and the first thing done was to seize the murderer. To prevent being taken alive, the viscount put the muzzle of the un- discharged pistol into his mouth, and pulled the trigger just at the moment when the persons present had laid hold of his arm, to make him their prisoner, which changed the direction of the ball, and only a slight injury was caused to the tongue and palate. The assassin was then secured, and removed to the prison of Doullens. Memorial de Rouen, Assassinations to a frightful extent are still committed in the environs of Paris,
