MEALS FOR CHILDREN. PAHENTS' RESPONSIBILITY AT CARDIFF. A. meeting of the schools eaaiteeji com- mittee of the Cardiff Education Authority was held in the City-hall on Monday, Alder- man Lewis Morgan presiding. One of the points whic.h the committee had to decide was whether they wore to charge for every meal provided to the school-children under the Provision of Meals Act. The Chairman stated that, provided the committee were satisfied parents could not pay, they did not intend to ask them, but he thought they should have some understand- ing on the matter. Were they to feed the underfed children, or were they going to give meals to everyone who wanted to pay for them? Mrs. M'Kenzie suggest-e, that meals should be given to all those who were recommended by the teachers, whether they were under. fed or not. Finally, it was decided, on the proposition of Alderman Beavan, seconded by Mrs. Lester Jones, that prrvison only should be made for the underfed. Further, it was agreed, when it was ascertained thatpaxents were able to pay and did not do so, proceed- ings should be taken, but not until the instructions of the ooraimitfcee had been given. It was agreed that a deputation consisting of Mrs. Oantillon and Mrs. Lester Jones, together with the director of education, should visit Leeds, Manchester, and Brad- ford to see how the AcFwas being worked, and that they should report to the com- mittee. It was agreed that the meal to be given should be a- mid-day meal. that notice be given to the parents where meals are supplied, and that the price to be charged ba left to the committee. FEEDING UNDERFED CHILDREN AT NEWPORT. The scheme of feeding school-children under the Provision of Meals Act has oome into active operation at Newport. Dr. Lloyd Da vies, chairman of the elementary educa- tion sub-oommittee, has drawn up a menu for mid-day meals.
