It is not denied that Kniffen and his wife lived unhappily !together. TCESDAT. The KnifEen burglary tragedy is fast developing into a sensation of the nrst grade. Dr. Kniffen professes the most poignant grief at his wife's unhappy fate, and has made elaborate but unavailing efforts to commit suicide. First, he swallowed an ounce of aconite, but his stomach refused to retain the poison. Then he cut his throat with a razor, but his nerve was not strong enough, and the result was merely a super- ficial wound. He afterwards tried the weapon in succession upon his wrist and abdomen, but with no better success, for the attendants who have been placed in charge of him stanched the wounds without dimcalty. Kniffen says all his friends have deserted h;m in this his time of need, and he wants to die.
