Appeal to the Parishioners and P: 'ic generally for the Re-seating and Improvement of tn: Parish Church of St. Mary's, Sicansea. IT has long been in contemplation to re-seat and other- t wise re-arrange the interior of the Parish Church, and also to repair and renew the boundaries of the Churchyard, which are in a state of dilapidation. It is proposed to remove the present high, unsightly, and uncomfortable pews, and to replace them with open sittings, according to the plans which have been approved by authority, and by which the additional accommodation of at least 150 seats will be secured. The chancel gal- leries will be entirely cleared away, the necessity for them no longer existing in consequence of the additional accommodation provided since their erection, in six new Churches, which secure 21 additional Sunday and week- day Services. It is estimated that the work contemplated will involve an outlay of £1,600, namely, about £1,000 for re-seating and re-arranging the interior of the Church, and a further sum of J6500 for New Boundary Walls and Railings, and otherwise improving the Churchyard. A Faculty has been granted for this purpose, and some subscriptions have been obtained. It is absolutely necessary to repair the framework of the Bells, part of which having lately broken down, it has become impossible to ring the peal. A handsome offer has been made by Mr. Fuller, of Norton, to provide the two Bells needed to con, pletc the Octave, if the whole work is done within three months. This, and substantial repairs necessary to the fabric, roof, floors, and staircases of the tower, will involve altogether an outlay of about JE400. A Sum of jE2,000 is earnestly asked for. If the inhabitants of Swansea will come forward at this jucture with their liberal help, not only will the con- dition of our Parish Church and Churchyard cease to be a reproach to Swansea, but the only peal of bells in the town will be made what it ought to be in a place of such importance. S. C. MORGAN, M.A., VICAR. ANDREW DAVIES, M.D., HON. SEC. March, 1877. P. S.-Since the above appeal was issued, the chancel galleries have been removed, the wall in Calvert-street has been rebuilt, and the removal of the present wall in Church-street, and the substitution for it of a wall with railing, in accordance with the faculty, is being proceeded with. Plans and specificetions are also being prepared with a view to carry out immediately the proposed additions to, and repairs in, the tower and belfry. PROMPT HELP IS THEREFORE URGENTLY NEEDED.
