COUNTY OF CARMARTHEN. Atafull and respectable MEETING of the GENTRY, CLERGY, TRADERS, and others of'the said County, held at the Shire-Hall, in the town of Carmarthen, on Tuesday, the 5th day February, 1805, in con- sequence of a requisition to JOHN 8nnwNS, ESQ. High the said Coitizl,.y" foi, the pzii-posc J of taking, into consideration the most effectual mode of .SUPPRESSING the CIRCULATION of NOTES under the value of FIVE POUNDS each except those of the BANK of ENGLAND, NATHANIEL MORGAN, Esq. in the Chair j RESOLVED, 1. ^1^11 AT the issuing of Notes, under the value JL of Five Pounds each, by Country Bankers, Iron Masters, and Trading Firms, is "become a serious evil; that the circulation of such small Notes by Country Bankers, &c. can in no respect conduce to the convenience of the public, butmust only be considered as a most improper mode of creating funds for their own private advantage. 2.'That the receipt of'Notes of the above de- scription in rents, and all other pecuniary trans- actions, is attended with much loss of time trou- ble, and inconvenience; and, if not cliecked, will, in a short tiine, prevent any specie being brought into circulation. 3. That small Notes, payable at distant places, are the means of raising the prices of provisions to in., the middling and poorer classes, as they must fre- quently submit to exorbitant demands for what they purchase with those Notes, or pay a premium for their amount in specie. 4. That as his Majesty's Receivers of Taxes and Excise Duties in this County will receive no small Notes in payment, except "those of the Bank of England and also for the reasons before stated, It is Resolved, by those attending this Meeting, that they will not receive in the course of any "trans- actions of business, whether in the receipt of rents or otherwise, any Notes under the value of Five Pounds each, except those of the Bank of England; and that the Nobility,,Gentry, Clergy, and others of this and the neighbouring counties, be requested to co-operate with this Meeting in their endeavours to check a measure so detrimental to the public interest. 5. That a sufficient number of copies of these Resolutions be printed in English and Welsh, and that the same be circulated and stuck up in all public places within this county, and advertised three times in the London papers, called the Star, Courier, Traveller, and Suii; and in the Cambrian, Glocester, Hereford, and Sarah Farley's Bristol papers. 6. Robberds's Improved Balsamic Elixir; Or, COUGH DROPS, In bottles at 2s. 9d. each. So extraordinary are its virtues, that let the patient be ever so emaciated or reduced, after having tried every medical assistance to no purpose, it will act as it were a charm, and instantly relieve the most inveterate Cough; give ease and freedom to perspiration, promote gentle expectoration, strengthen the whole debilitated constitution, procure the refreshing comfort of rest and sleep; and quickly etiect a permanent cure for the most obstinate Coughs, Colds, Asth- mas, and Consumptions. Not an instance has occurred, though taken bf near sixtv thousand patients, wherein these Drops have been known to fail relieving the above complaints; in fact too much can- not be said in praise of so valuable a remedy, as it only re- quires to be known to meet universal preference.-A fur- ther account of its virtues may be seen in the Evangelical, European, Ladies, and Gentlemen's Magazine, of January, 180,1)..
