He felt that the latter had concocted the story in order to blackmail, and reckoned that he was sensible in believing that a maa' who could lie as Picke had done with regard to himself was not worth following in other respects. Picke had said that he had seen him—Aden—come out -of the "white room," and afterwards go through the ghastly series of actions he declared that he had witnessed. It certainly was not he. and it was almost impossible to mistake Farworthy for him.
