HOLYWELL. THE HIGHWAY BOARD IN DIFFICULTIES.—At the monthly meeting of the Holywell District Highway Board a serious financial position of the board was disclosed.-The Clerk stated that of th last half-year's rate. estimated to produce £6;)(), only about £ 120 had been received. The board were already indebted to the bank to the extent of £ 95, and that day they required £418 to pay the road labourers, &c.—Several members of the board expressed their willingness to become joint guaran- tors to the bank for an over-draft, but Mr. Thomas Hughes, Greenfield, who has lately succeeded in getting the district auditor to surcharge several items of the board's expenditure, objected to sign, and the others objected to do so on hearing that, consequently the board's workmen will have to go without their wages for another month, making nine weeks due to them in all.

WREXHAM. THE WREXHAM MAGISTRATES AND THE EIS- TEDDFOD.—At the Wrexham Borough Court, on Monday, the Mayor (Alderman John Jones) said that before proceeding with the business of the court he wished to make an observation upon the conduct of the town during the Eisteddfod week. He believed the town was visited by quite 50,000 people, and although they came upon a peaceful errand, it was a thing to congratulate themselves upon that their conduct had been orderly, quiet, and exemplary, so much so that there was hardly any departure from the ordinary track of magisterial duty called for by the conduct of the people in the town. He also felt bound to say, with reference to the police, that their arrangements seemed to have been WJII made and carried out, and they did much, coupled with the good conduct of their country people, to secure an orderly week.

MANCHESTER. SUDDEN DEATH OF A MINISTER.—At the meeting of the Manchester Presbytery of the English Pres- byterian Church, on Monday, one of the ministers present was the Rev. R. T. Cunningham, of Bowdon, who was ordained at Inch, Wigtonshire, six years ago. During the proceedings he complained of the closeness of the room, and then was suddenly seized with illness and, falling unconscious, was carried out of the room. It was then seen the seizure was serious. Whilst medical aid was sent for, prayers for his recovery were offered by the Assembly. In a few minutes two medical men arrived, but they were too late, as Mr. Cunningham had died almost immediately, being carried out without recovering consciousness. The event created a great sensation, and after prayer had again been offered the Presbytery expressed profound sympathy with Mr. Cunningham's aged mother and his bereaved con- gregation. Deceased was unmarried. On Monday morning he seemed to be in perfect health, and had never shown signs of heart disease, to which his death is attributed.
DENBIGH.
DENBIGH. TESTIMONIAL TO A WELSH AGRICULTURIST.— On Friday week, a deputation waited upon Mr. Owen Williams, Glan Clwyd-a prominent Welsh agriculturist and a leader among the Nonconfor- mists-to present him with a very handsome testimonial, as a token of his fellow-countrymen's appreciation of his eminent services to all good causes, whether religious, social, or political. Mr. R. Humphreys-Roberts, ex-Mayor of Denbigh, presided. The testimonial consisted of an elegant illuminated address and a cheque for £400. Among the subscribers were the Lord-lieutenants of Denbighshire and Flintshire, and several Welsh members of Parliament. The address was presented by Mr. Peter Roberts, St. Asaph, one of the secretaries, and the cheque by Mr. John Roberts, Geinas, vice-president of the St. Asaph Board of Guardians. Mr. Williams made a suitable reply. It may be mentioned that the testimonial was star- ted during the sereve illness of Mr. Williams. Contributions to the testimonial came unsolicited from all parts of North Wales, and from London, Liverpool, and many of the other large towns.
GLYNDYFRDWY.
GLYNDYFRDWY. THENATIONAL SCHOOLS.-Two amateur concerts, morning and evening, of a decidedly superior class were given at the above place on Monday, the 3rd September. The list of patrons included Sir Watkin and Lady Williams Wynn, Sir Theodore and Lady Martin, Hon. C. H. and Mrs. Wynn, Col. and Mrs. Barnes, Major and Mrs. Tottenham, Mr. and Mrs. Slaney Wynne. The room was tastefully and artistically garlanded with plants and flowers, and looked altogether a miniature garden. The decora- tions reflect great praise upon Mrs. Williams, The Vicarage, and Miss Jones, Minffordd-the ladies entrusted with the work. The arrangements were all that could be desired, and were carried out chiefly by the Rev. D. Williams, vicar, ably assisted by Mr. Jones, Minffordd, together with Messrs. Roberts and Owen. The first concert commenced at 2 30, and was well attended by the leading gentry of the neighbourhood and surroundings, amongst whom we noticed Sir Theodore and Lady Martin, and party; Mrs. Tottenham; Mrs. Best; Mrs. Elderton and party Mrs. Sisson and party Mrs. Price Mrs. V osper; Major, Mrs. and Miss Cross; Mr. and Mrs. Calverley, &c., &c. Mr. Wood's masterly contributions upon the pianoforte were wonderful, discovering a perfect command and control over the instrument, and were remarkable exhibitions of execution, manipulation, exposition, and other playing technicalities. Miss Boscawen was very effective in the recitations kindly given. It remains to add that Mr. Owen Roberts, in his artistic rendition of Tell, fair Irene," gave evident proof that he is making the best of his advantages at the Academy, where he is now a student. The neighbourhood in particular, and, indeed, Wales has reason to be proud of our young countryman, who is making such remarkable progress, and taking very decided strides towards earning for himself an honourable position in the musical world." All the other ladies and gentle- men afforded the audience considerable pleasure by their songs. The duties of accompanying were shared by Miss Boscawen, together with Mr. H. J. Wood, and Mr. W. Hall. The evening concert commenced at 7 p.m. The comic element" was supplied most efficiently as below by Messrs. James and Williams, Miss James and Mr. Wood attending at the pianoforte. The concert was altogether a success, but especial mention is due to Mr. Roberts for the magnificent way in which he sang "The distant Shore" in response to a re-call—another undisputable proof of superior vocal ability and unmistakeable musical progress. Mr. Wood again fairly electrified the audience with his clever playing, and the art" which he displayed as accompanist was in itself a study, and might well be copied and imitated by aspiring pianists. The proceeds, which we believe will represent a handsomo sum, will be devoted towards the ohurch and school. LLANDUDNO.
LLANDUDNO. ACCIDENT.—Last Sunday evening, about 7 o'clock, whilst Mr. Morris Spinks and family, of Gloddaeth-street, were in the sitting-room, they saw a crowd assembled beneath the window, and on inquiring down-stairs found that a gentleman pass- ing had been struck on the head by the fall of a piece of ornamental stone, weighing about 4 lbs., which rendered him unconscious. He was at once taken to M. Button's, chemist, to be attended to, and soon after came round, but the injuries to the head will take a long time to heal. The fall of the stone is inexplicabiy mysterious.

CEFN AND RHOSYMEDRE. FOOTBALL.-The football season in the parish of Ruabon will begin on Saturday, when an opening match will be played in Wynnstay Park. The season promises to be a very successful one, as two of the most notable clubs, viz., the Druids and the Ruabon Wanderers, have amalgamated for the season. A strong and influential representative Committee has been elected, and some of the leading gentry of the neighbourhood have promised their support, and there is already a substantial amount in hand. Mr. Davies, Ruabon, has been appointed treasurer, and Mr. H. R. Williams, Ruabon, secretary.
BUCKLEY.
BUCKLEY. BAPTIST CAUSE.—We hear that Principal Gethin Davies, of Llangollen, is determined to try and make the Baptist cause at Lane-end more prosperous than it has been, and with this object in view the Rev. D. Davies, of Carnarvon, has been brought to BuiJkley, as a resident minister for the time being, who will devote his time to try and build up a cause here. Mr. Davies is a man of wide sympathy and missionary spirit, as well as a most acceptable preacher, and is determined to work up the cause if possible. Mr. Davies's wife will doubtless be a great help to him in his uphill work, she being a splendid singer, which usually attracts a large congregation of people. We wish them every success in their labour of love.

London, S.W., July 19th, 1888.—DEAR SIB,—It is with great pleasure I ofier you this unsolicited testimonial. My husband was for some time losing flesh, and getting generally weak, until at last he could no loneer follow his employment, and was obliged to give up. For 23 weeks he was laid up, and was quite unable to work at all being attended during part of that time by a London physician. On advice I had him removed to our home m Devon- shire Two doctors there said, after examining him, that he would never do any more work. Seeing your Moonseed Bitters advertised in the Weekly Record (Dorset), I determined to try a bottle. The first bottl gave him relief from the pain at his heart which all the doctors' medicine could not do. He has now taken ten bottles of Moonseed Bitters, and is as strong and well as ever he was in his life. I have no hesitation in saying that Moonseed Bitters has saved his life.
