MUSIC IN SOUTH WALES. It appears that the performance of "Judas Maccabeus," by the Calfaria Choral Society, Aberdare, which was referred to in the LONDON WELSHMAN some time ago, as one of the events" of Christmas, was a magnificent success from every point of view. It is very creditable to our friends at Aberdare that such interest is displayed in oratorio performances, and that they thereby disprove Mr. Joseph Bennett's recent assertion that Welsh choirs love music not for its own sake as much as for the guineas." The artistes were :Miss Myfanwy Jones, Miss Claudia Thorney, Mr. Charles Saunders, and Mr. David Brazell. Of the singing of Miss Myfanwy Jones and Mr. Brazell, the Aberdare Leader says, Miss Myfanwy Jones has a very rich soprano voice,, with a fine range. Her articulation is clear, the words being distinctly heard, and the sentiment and spirit of each song well expressed Her well modulated and flexible voice showed to great advantage in the air, So shall the lute and harp awake,' a rendering which was much appreciated and applauded." "Mr. David Brazell 'the coming Welsh baritone' has already come, and the Calfaria audience on Christmas night were not slow in showing their appreciation of this fact, especially when he sang, Arm, arm, ye brave,' in fine tone, and with good spirit."
