CRITICISING THE ARMY. Correspondence has taken place between Colonel Mainwaring, commanding the 23rd Regimental District, and Professor Ellis Ed- wards, Principal. of the Theological College, Bala, with reference to some remarks made during a sermon at one of the chapels at Rhos- Uanerchrugog by Mr. J. O. Jones, of Pen- rnachno, one of the students of the College, 1\1r. Jones said that the majority of soldiers were men of no principle, too lazy for any- thing, physically or mentally. Among the Congregation was Sergeant Instructor Morris, of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, who immediately rose and as a protest walked out with his children. Colonel Mainwaring,. in drawing Principal Edwards's attention to Mr. Jones's remarks, added that he was confident that the sentiments expressed were not those held by the College. 7 Dr. Edwrards replied that he deeply regretted the remarks made by Mr. Jones, and that he would bring the subject before him when the nfoxt College session began. There the matter rests for the present.
