At Brecon Police Court last Monday, a tramp was sentenced to three months imprison- ment for stealing 4 whips and a brass rod from Edwin Jones and George Hughes. The prisoner stated that he could not get work anywhere because he had been previously arrested in Yorkshire on a charge of murder. The Chairman of the Bench replied that he was not for that reason justified to steal. Builth. The letter of the Bishop of Hereford, which was read at an Education Conference at Buith last week, reflects much credit upon the writer. The Bishop expresses his disapproval with any further grant of public money for the support of Elementary Education unless accompanied by some measure of public control. The Bishop rejoices to see that Churchmen are beginning to come round to his view. Carmarthen. Last Saturday morning a terrible fire broke out at Carmarthen on Alderman Jenkins business premises, which were completely destroyed. Five horses were also burnt to death. Clydach. Miss Lizzie Rhys Williams, an assistant of the higher grade j^hool Llanelly, received at the hands of her loyal pupils a magnificent present in the shape of a costly Church Service in a morocco case, as token of their sympathy and respect for her. This is the third occasion for Miss Williams to be the recipient of a similar testimony. Several new Coal mines will soon be started in the neighbourhood of Llanelly. It is now whispered that Llanelly will soon be able to export a large quantity of coal. This step will happily make up for the partial collapse of the Tin plate industry in the Llanelly district.
