MONSTER WAREHOUSES. —The Bonded Warehouses recently erected by Messrs. Cunville, & Co, Belfast. will contain ab'"ut two million seventy-nine thousand galbns of Whisky. AN ANGLER ATTACKED Py BEES.—As a youna; officer attached to the rifles qu;:ru red in Bandon was fishing in Castle Bernard Park, on Tuesday, he was attacked by a swarm of been. So beset was he that to escape them he jumped into the river but whenever his head appeared above water they renewed the assault with redoubled vigour. At last, stung almost to madness, he rushed to the bank and ran heme to the barracks as fast as he could. FATAL ACCIDENT TO A SOLDIEK.—An inquest was held in the board room of the Herbert fiospi- tal, Shooters-hiii, on the body o! John Henry Smith, aged 31, a serjeant in the Royal Artillerr, who was rehearsing some exercises for the annual artillery athletic sports in the gymnasium at Wool- wich, when he fell backwards from a bar 5 feet 9 inches high and fractured 1 is s;;i e, wh'c-i induced general paralysis, and terminated in death. The jury returned a verdict of Accidental Death. MR MURPIIY IN BIRMINGHAM. — On Friday night an artisan, named Raffles, met Murphy at the Tabernacle for discussion. Those on" the platform were pelted with rotten eggs. The chairman of the meeting twice menaced the au- dience with a pistol, and several of Murphy's friends brought out similar weapons. Intense excitement and great uproar ensued. The occu- pants of the platform were panic-stricken, and tumbled downstairs one over another, but fortu- nately no fatality occurred. The police even- tually cleared the body of the The feeling of the populace is decidedly against Murphy smce he gave indications of Conservatism in politics. A VALUABLE INVENTION.—Slate rock is ground to a fine powder, and mixed with mastic or any bituminous substance to the consistency of a thick paint, in which condition it is applied to canvas' cloth paper, felt, or any similar substance, for roofing and other purposes. This is doubtless the elastic slate of which we have heard from America. It soon hardens, and by the action of the elements, or by means of chemical action within itself, be- comes, it is said, almost as impervious to the action of fire cr water as slate itself, though considerably less brittle. It has been applied as cement fur cisterns, tanks, cellar-floors, leaky hydrants, pipes, and pumps. Inkstands have been made of it while in a plastic state, which have become as hard as stone. It has been applied as a cheap ra;nt to out. buildings aud fences.
