ACCIDENT TO A MASTER iiALUEH.
ACCIDENT TO A MASTER iiALUEH. On Saturday morning last a somewhat serious acci- dent befel a man named Thomas Daties, residing in Allen's-square, Mountain Ash, and employed as a master haulier at Messrs. Nixon's Navigation Colliery. It appears that the unfortunate man, who is au old experienced workman, got caught by some means between the shackles of a full journey of trams, and had it not been for another haulier who happened to be near, and who took in at a moment the dangerous situation in which Davies was placed, there can be no doubt but what his injuries would have been more serious. This man, it seems, after seeing that something was wrong, knocked to the engine house to stop, and luckily this signal was promptly obeyed, and Davies was taken from his terrible position. He was at ouec conveyed home, and on medical examination it was found he had sus- tained severe internal bruises, together with injury to the left hand and hip.

EXTRAORDINARY SUCCESS IX THE TREATMENT OF OBESITY. Our corpulent readers will be glad to leatn how to positively lose two stone in atout a month, with the greatest' possible benefit in health, strength, and muscle, by a comparatively new system. It is ;> singular paradox that the patient, returning quickly to a heatthy state, with increased activity of brain, digestive and other organs, naturally requires mote food than hitherto, yet, notwithstanding this, he absolutely loses in weight one or two pounds daily, as the weighing machine will prove. Thus there is no suggestion of starvation. It is au undoubted success, and the autnov, who has devoted years of study to the subject, guarantees a noticeable reduction within twenty-four hours of commencing the treatment. This is different, with other diseases, for the patient, in jinme easfts, may go for weeks without being able to test whether the physician has rightly treated him, and may have derived no real or apparent improve- tnenfc in health. Here, we repeat, the author guarantees it in twenty four hours, the scale to to the unerring recorder. The treatment aims at the actual root of obesity, so that the superfluous fat does not return when discontinuing the treatment. It is perfectly harmless. We advise our readers to call the attention of stout friends to this, because, sinceiely, wetaickthevoughttoknow. ALLEGED ADULTERATED MILK.
ALLEGED ADULTERATED MILK. On Monday, at the Merthyr Ponce-court, David Lewis was summoned by Inspector Coles for selling milk which had been adulterated with 8 per cent, of water. The inspector said he purchased the milk on the 23rd January from Jane Harris, a girl in the employ of the defendant. He sent a sample to the I'uolic Analyst-. The inspector took a sample on tbe same day from another girl in the employ of the defendaut, and this turned out to be pure. The adulterated sample was certified by the Public Analyst to contain 92 per cent. of pure milk and 8 per cent. extraneous or added water. Defendant said that his family had bepn telling milk before he was born, and this was the firL-fc complaint he had received, and ho could not account for it, for all the girls got the -am# milk. RAILWAYMEN\S DELEGATES. As our reader^ are aware, there has been some agitation lately concerning the action of the G.W.R. Coy. directors in refusing leave of absence to men to attend lutour meetings in the capacity of delegates. It was said that such a refusal would not occur again, and that the- men in question would be allowed to attend the next meetings, which will be held at Merthyr on Sunday next. It transpires, however, that tbo men are now getting their annual leave. h oi, Should the directors |x;rsist in the course followed hitherto, the attention of Parliament will be drawn to the subject. The men who hate been refused leave of absence are Messrs. C. J. Bradshaw, member of the executi-.e committee of the A.S.R.S., and — Brown, delegate for the Signalmen's National Move- ment. In Mr. Braddiaw's case, leave has been refused five times in succession. lie was re-elected delegate by a majority of 300 over any other candidate. __n_
PLUCKY RESCUE BY A BOY.
PLUCKY RESCUE BY A BOY. On Saturday week last a toy named Edward Owen, residing at Abercwmboy, was sliding with other toys on the canal near Middle Duffryn when the ice gave way, aud the boy Owen was soon lost to sight. Fortunately, an the iittle fellow was sinking for the last time, another boy aged 12 years, named William Charles Rees, son P.C. Luther Rees, very pluekily went to his rescue, and with great difficulty succeeded in bringing him to bank. The boy Owen is only nine years of age, and there can be little doubt that had it not been for the prompt action of Rees he would have. been drowned. We are pleased to learn that William Charles Rees has been highly complimeuted by the parents of the boy. also the Vicar of Atoraman has bestowed a word of praise on the plucky conduct, and we hope he will report the matter to the proper quarter.
RECORD COAL RAISING.
RECORD COAL RAISING. ABE R A MA N REPLIED. Lover of Truth says —On reading your ta.iuable paper for last week I find that another correspondent of Cwmamau ha« run am nek. We may safety band him the bun for having eclipsed the much-abused Torn IVP|7IIR, WIIU W TTT* K tJ1xr OT N ETTTLITTI F/LWVRR L —-RATTS'« he was incapable of telling the truth. Jack Cayenuu would be much preferable, to him who must be morn ancient. "Beam Engine" puts me, and probably some of my fellow-readers, in mind of a lout that has been thrashed by a small boy, and then runs awttv, throwing stones at his conqueror. Cpon inquiry I find that Cwmaman Pit is not 40 yards deeper than Atoraman, and the 72 minute,s mentioned as having been the stoppages on their (Cwmamau) great -rial day is a barefaced falsehood, made to mislead the readers of your increasing popular paper. Un that day it is true that they had a few minute?' stoppage, owing to a disarrangement of the scotches, but they wound coal nevertheless for upwards of 10 hours. This can 1¡.e authenticated I>y anv truthful and non-prejudiced person that works oil their pit hank. The space between the top of Aberaman Pit and the screens is something like 20 yards in length this would not 110 a bad place for stocking 200 tons of coal, would itAnd as we have no horse on the pit bank either by night or by day, it is remarkable how tho 200 tons of coal were put there. This niu-t be "Bralll Engine's" far-fetched imagination, and I may safely say that he lays another charge at the feet of the red monster. There has not been one tram of coal tipped over the screens here for the last 10 years how milch farther back than that, I cannot say. Ho certainly would like the public to believe that L640 ton" of coal were not raised here in 10 hours on the day mentioned • but any person who is nut prejudiced can to eon- vineed of the colliery' capabilities by watching, for a few miuutes, the ojierations of raising coal. { There is no secret, it seems, in the fact that 180 tons were raised in one hour this has beeu public property for fonte time, and the operation can to repeated any day. It seems to me that Beam Enginemust have, dreamed that C'wmaman lias eclipsed us at Aberaman, or it may tie the effect of a supernatural vision, visible piobably only to himself. There is no necessity of troubling any more about the racing of these two pitr. seeing that Atoraman has run clean awav bv raisim"- 300 tons every day more than Cwmaman. Although Aberaman woiked, last- year, three weeks k-*s than Cwmamau, it nevertheless raised more coal per dxv. week, month, and for the year, leatingthein tobiud bv the handsome difference of 30,000 terns. Ou Friday last, in a little morc than nine hours, 1,432 tons weie raised and on Saturday, in seven hours, 1.016 ton- were raised. These figures can be proved if you, Mr. Editor, think it worth your while to send one of vour Aberdare reporters down to the pit weigher. "Beam Engine states that Atoraman ought to raise three trains to their two why, then, docs he dispute our capabilities of raising the quantity stated I hear that the officials are about to make some alterations in the shaft, fee., and intend, very soon, to to able to raise from 2,000 to 3,000 tons per day.
