Thousands drag on a miserable existence, worried with Iudigestion, half iinSecile from Nervous De- Ibility, wasting with Scrofula, or eaten up with Itheuiiiatisin, and teas of thousands, through morbid melancholy or some minor derangement of health, are incapable of either lully enjoying the comforts of life or satisfactorily performing the duties of their station. To all such, whatever may be the nature, catMe, or extent of their illness or inefficiency, a speedy and effectual remedy is now oifered in the recent discoveries of Dr. Napier. His medicine. directed to the root of the evil, (Debility and derangement of the Nervous Vital power) remove disease by giving nature strength to thiow it off, renovate the whole frame, both in bodv and mind, and permanently invigorate those powers on which Health. Happiness, Energv and Longevity depend. For the better accommodation of the Public, Dr. Napier's .invaluable remedies are now issued, at a cheap late, in the dorm of Patent Medicines. FNIII. the Nutlinyhumshire Guardian, Nov. 28th, 1850:- D: Napier's Neurotonic Pills bid fair speedily to acquire as dUtinguished a reputation in this vicinity as they have gained in London and other parts of the kingdom. Uichard Joyces, of No. 6, Peuayfoot Stile, Nottingham, is well known to have been a cripple, and a martyr to pain and disease for the last 14 years. He has been twice an in-patient of the Nottingham General Hospital, and had besides used all the means of cure within his reach. not only without benefit, but he actually grew worse and worse, and began at length to look for a speedy relief in death. In this state he applied to Dr. Napier, who being unwilling to take money from a poor man, in so hopeless a condition, supplied him at once with medicine gratuitously. The happy conse- quences are, that Joynes is entirely relieved from all his pains, has quite recovered the use of his right hand and arm, which 'were for 14 years utterly paralyzed, and is in full expectation of lullimately recovering the use of his foot. His case has excited 'much astonishment and interest throughout the neighbourhood. ;Some hundreds of others in this neighbourhood are now taking JDr. Napier's medicines; the effects are in every case, highly I jeuelicial, in some, almost miraculous. From Mr. Edward Page, Director of the Choir and Organist of St. Marie's Catholic Church, Newport, Monmouthshire. Gentlemen,- Having frequently suffered much from relaxation of the throat. I have often been obliged to resort to various preparation* but since I nn™ hnt tune to try Dr. Locock's Pulmonic Wafers, I am now but seldom obliged to resort to them. for the extraordinary good effects they produce are must surprising. Even when the throat appears to be completely ex- hausted, and the voice to be nearly gone, two or three (ot at most four) will, in the short space of hair all hour or so, completely restore its flexibility and power, and they act as a mere temporary exciting remedy, nor do they leave any lassitude after. Having felt the great value of the remedy I feel it a duty to generally recommend it. as I a n con- vinced that all persons will final immense benefit from the general and persevering use of it. The exeitions made in Amsterdam for the instruction of the Cape boers will not he fruitless. Five Dutch schootmasters have already set out, and three more are named, and a free passage is to be given to them. They are to labour in the first instance among the boers within the English bounds. Favourable advices have been re- ceived from the Cape of the progress of the plan. EXTEMPORE PREACHING.—The dangers of extempore preaching have, perhaps, never been more strikingly ap- parent than they are from the following fearful senti- ments, uttered hy one no novice in its use, via., the Rev. I Hu8h M'Neile, of Liverpool, a canon of Manchester, and a member of the council, who, under the presidency ot Lord Ashley, have assumed Ihe responsibility of re", forming the Church, and promoting (in their minds) Ihe hv Vi>ra Q? ^'1e circumstances are related JLJ which, after adverting in Wh I?* -° occurrence in question, proceeds:— and would nn f'r<j!Jm!'t"nC0 was "rsl told to us we could not I.. bel,eVer,t; but afterwards came to us in t n L'e Same •f0rm fr°m Several thought lb ( rirt l"lq7l(,°n ",e subi°ct; so that, if the story ™d ? n t ,ht M6 7 iU oi'c*iali^ might be stopped; shape! U U° ?Ut f0rth iu an unexaggerated Ihe result of our luquiries has been that we have obtained from a highly respectable xource as accurate a version ol the ^bledTm f J the memory of our informant enabled l.,tn to furnish, and of their substantial accuracy he has no doubt whatever. The extraordinary declaration of sentiment was uttered by the reverend gentleman on Sunday morning last, in the course of his sermon, and is stated to have been to the o o\vni<; effect I would make it a capital offence to admi- nister the confession in this country. Transportation would not satisfy me, for that would merely transfer the evil from one L part of the world to the other. Capital punishment alone would s itisfy ipe, Death atone would prevent the evil. This is my so.emn conviction.' The congregation we have been told, heard the words with mingled sorrow and dread and, at the close of the service, a representation on the subject was made to Dr. M'Neile in the vestry. The reverend gentleman declared, we believe, that lie had no consciousness of having made use of such language hut. being assured that he had undoubtedly done so, he expressed his regret in most forcible terms. In the course of the evening service the doctor went into the reading ù.k. and as we are informed, thus addressed hise i:OUgregatioii In the eXcupfueut Ol au extemporaneous ad- drcst, delivered by me this morning, I used, 1 believe, a most atrocious expression. That expression I have already witli- dr.iwu io tl<« sight of God; 1 have, I trusl, made my jjeaee with Him and [ now beg to withdraw that expression in the sight of this congregation, and to make my peace "with you. i will not repeat the expression which I have referred to, for those who heard it will sufficiently-well reint-mbtir it, whilst I will not grieve (or inflict pain upon) those who did not hear it by repeating it. "Dr. M'Neile, therefore, bitterly repents of the grave autt lameutable error into which he unwiitiifgly fell; bul if tuenof lirm mind, of great ability and learning, ot long practice in preaching and public speaking, permit so unholy a spirit to enter even for a moment into their soyls, and to fashion itself iu words, how great mu-t be the charity with which we ought to regard the leelings of those who are destitute of such tages Even this nxxtpainfu) incident may be productive of good to England If, in this sad time of religious ferment, it teach men the necessity of caution and prudence in public speaking, seeing how easy it is for even a minister of the gospel of peace to be carried away by religious fervour into the enunciation of sentiments as atrocious as the worst that were ever attributed to and condemned in others."
