The 2-Furrow-Wheel LAND PRESSER is getting much in use in modern agriculture, in consequence of the many advantages it has over the 6 or more Furrow Wheel Pressers. It can be used with One Horse, to follow in the same field 2 plough teams, thereby pressing the furrows before they are made hard and brittle by the atmosphere, Being only 2 furrow wheels, the impression is uni- form on the furrows. These advantages cannot, with the other pressers, be obtained. The furrows being ploughed some time become hard—3 or 4 horses are required; and in consequence of their having so many wheels, the pressure on the furrows is unequal. USK. FUNERAL OF MRS. PQCoCK,-On Saturday last the remains of. this worthy and respected lady wera consigned to the tomb in Usk churchyard, where her husband had been interred twenty-one years previously. The funeral procession moved from Beech Hill, the residence of deceased, shortly after two o'clock, and a number of the principal tradesmen of Usk awaited its arrival at the gate, whence it pro- ceeded to Church in the following order Thirty Tradesmen and inhabitants. Nearly all the shops in the town were partially closed, and the road-way, from the turnpike to the Church, were strewn with flowers and evergreens. risHKKi ur THTIS JJSK.—Some months ago, owing to the funds of the United Usk Association being in rather a low state, there was a considerable proba- bility that the right of fishing, from the Chain bridge to Newbridge, would be let exclusively to two or three gentlemen, whose intention it was to have shut up that portion of the river against all salmon fish- ing, other than themselves and friends. In that case, the many persons who come to Usk, expressly for the salmon fishing, would have gone elsewhere, and the trade of the town would have suffered to the extent of the money they would spend in it, which is very considerable. Besides this, it would have been a positive reproach to the good people of Usk, to have thus given up their noble river to strangers. A sum. amounting to zC40 was accordingly raised by the in- habitants, with a view to prevent this, and to keep the river open and at a general meeting of the United Usk Association, held at Abergavenny, on the 22nd inst., Lord Llanover in the chair, the sum of £40, which had been collected, was paid over by M r. Brom- field to Major Stretton, on the public, assurance then given, that the river should be kept open during next year, on the same terms as it had been during the present one. Increased facilities have also been granted by the Fishery Association for the procuring and sale of salmon in Usk, during next year, or thaS the townspeople may be well supplied, at a reasonable price, with Usk salmon—a fish which cannot easily be beaten for excellence, and to which the Uskites feel they have a special claim; and it is hoped, that as the market will thus be well supplied by the fish- monger, the inhabitants will no longer encourage the poacher and clandestine dealer, as they have hitherto notoriously done; at any rate, tlPy will have no fair reason for doing so.—COMMUNICATED, ST. LVKE'S FAIR.-At this fair, on Wednesday last, there was an average show of cattle, but the supply of sheep was rather limited. Fat beasts averaged from 6d. to 61,1. per lb., and fresh steers sold well. Mutton, 7d. to 7|d. per lb. The trade in pigs was dull, those sold, averaged from 9s. to 10s. per score. The show of horses was small, and very few changed hands.

LLANTILLIO PERTECLEY. MERTHYR UNITY PHILANTHROPIC INSTITUTION.— A quarterly meeting of the above Lenity, was held at the "Blooming Rose" lodge, New Inn, Llantillio Pertholey, on Saturday week, when the Delegates and Officers of the district, met at 1 o'clock. It appeared from the reports read by the Corresponding Secretary that most of the lodges in the district were prospering in funds as well as members. At the conclusion of the business, the members of the lodge joined the company, and they all sat down to an excellent dinner, provided by the worthy host and hostess, Mr. and Mrs Davies. After the cloth had been removed, the chair was accepted by P. P. G. M. E. Evans, Blaina, and the vice-chair by P. G. Thomas Lewis, Gilwcrn Addresses were delivered on the principles of the Order, by the Chairman, the Viee-Chairman, and bv J. Parry, C.S. of the district, P.G. Henry Williams, Blaenafon, P.G. Robert Williams, Clydach, and Mr! William Davies, Secretary of the new lodge. The remainder of the evening was spent in conviviality, and dancing brought the proceedings to a close at a comparatively early hour.

1. BLASLTAFO'TF. SOCIAL TEA MEETING.—On Monday evening last, a meeting of this kind was held at the Primitive Methodist chapel, when the school teachers together with some of their friends, in all about 73 persons, sat down and partook of the cup that cheers but. not inebriates." After tea, Mr. Wm. Morgan, local preacher, was voted to the chair, and delivered a good address on sabbath-schools. The meeting was also addressed by several others. Some good selections of music were given by the choir, which was in attend- ance,. At the close of the meeting, a vote of thanks to Mrs. Lawrence and the other ladies who assisted in getting up the tea, was unanimously passed. The meeting broke up about about half-past nine o'clock, all seeming to have enjoyed themselves. (District Intelligence continued on the eighth pagc)
