GLEAM FORTH BRIGHT SUN !

GLEAM FORTH BRIGHT SUN AWAY, ye rude ungenial storms Away, ye dark-robed clouds, away And hush, ye winds, your solemn dirge, Sad requiem to the wild birds' lay The swallows were not wont to be Welcomed by storms of blinding hail, And June's sweet flowers, 'tis sad to see, Thus scattered by the ruthless gale. Away, ye rude ungenial storms Nor longer shroud the summer skies; I weary of your gloom, and pine For the bright blue that hidden lies. I sigh to see June's favourite flower, The sweet rose bow beneath the blast; And long to see the sun's glad rays On each fair budding beauty cast. Away, ye rude, ungenial storms, Away to distant climes, away Nor cloud with desolating gloom, Scenes that were wont to be so gay; The warbling birds' glad songs are hushed, The sweet flowers court the sun in vain, And shelter 'neath their leafy screen From the rude gale and drenching rain. Away, ye rude, •ungenial storms, The summer days are fleeting fast; Yet still with dreary leaden clouds, Yon azure space is overcast. Gleam forth bright sun, in glory beam, Deck this dull earth with radiance gay Bid Nature 'neath thy smiles rejoice, And chase this sombre gloom away. EMILY STEPHENS.
